Stay-cation

General Dynamics had an offer to get a room and incentives at some of the local resorts. We thought that it sounded fun since we wouldn't be going on a vacation anytime soon. Time passed and things at work got busier, so we scrapped the idea of a stay-cation.

We decided that we would have a fun day instead... no work, all play. We got a great storm this weekend that cooled things down, so we decided to go to the Zoo. Thank heavens for a Zoo Membership - we only lasted about an hour and a half! It was cool, but definitely felt warmer with the humidity! We checked out most of the animals and Ethan enjoyed a spin on the carousel.

After the Zoo, we headed to Superstition Springs Mall to go see 'Night at the Smithsonian' at the Dollar Theatre. We quickly grabbed Panda Express for lunch and then headed to the Theatre, only to discover a ridiculously long line that was mostly outside. We decided to skip the movie, take another spin on the carousel, and check out Toys-R-Us... something Ethan would enjoy doing.

After looking at the fun toys, we headed home. Ethan crashed on the way home and actually stayed asleep for a while after. Since we forgot the camera at the Zoo, this is the only picture we got of the day.

Addy took advantage of a sleeping child and went to JoAnn's to get some fabric to make a shower curtain for Ethan and Eliza's bathroom and Ryan enjoyed some video gaming time.
We had a coupon for a free meal at Outback, so we headed there for dinner. We enjoyed some nice steak at an awesome price.

Our stay-cation ended up being one of the cheapest... more like a fun day. We'll have to try again another time.

Cauliflower Ear

Ethan was getting ready for bed the other night and started goofing off. He lost his balance, fell, and hit his ear on a wooden toy in his room. We have never seen an ear bruise like this... couldn't pass on the photo opportunity!

The Things They Do

Maybe this is a sign that he still wants to be the baby.

Houdini

We've had Jack now for less than a month, but have fallen in love with him. He has really fit in and become part of our family. He is playful, adventurous, curious, patient, lovable, and plays really well with kids. He isn't scared of balloons or bubbles and rarely runs away when a toddler/pre-schooler attacks him. He's awesome!

Well, these qualities are great, but they also get you into trouble. Saturday night we got home late from celebrating Ryan's Step-mom's birthday. It was probably the first time that we were gone for so long. When we got home, we couldn't find Jack. We went outside and called for him, but figured he was just playing.

When Ryan and Addy layed down, Ryan mentioned how weird it was that Jack wasn't in our room like he normally was. We brushed it off and went to bed. During the night, Jack can usually be found making dough in Addy's hair or sleeping on her pillow. She woke up several times and Jack was never there. She ignored the 'go look for him' prompting several times, but finally got up at 6:00 and went looking. No Jack.

We went to Church, came home, asked neighbors if they had seen him... no Jack. We made signs, put them up in our subdivision, walked around some more... no Jack. We started to get worried.

On Monday, Addy decided to print out more signs and put them up in the subdivision next to ours. She also posted things on several missing pet web sites and looked at the AZ Humane Web Site to see if he got turned in. No Jack.

We layed down to go to bed Monday night and made plans that Ryan would check out the Pound during his lunch break on Tuesday. Around 11:45pm, the phone rang. Who the heck is calling us this late? A drowsy Ryan picked up the phone and talked to some teenage girls in the subdivision nearby that had found Jack. He arranged to meet them the next evening, but Addy insisted we go get him then. He had wandered about 1/4 of a mile and was very dirty.

We're glad to have him back and hope that he sticks around for a while... maybe he learned a lesson. Edith, on the other hand, is not very happy to have him back and seemed to enjoy the time he was MIA.
