Review of 2010 - December 2009

Yes, we know. This year we haven't been that great at blogging. Our New Year's resolution... to do better! We have been busy and wanted to share what we have been up to. One post at a time, we'll review our year...

December 2009- Christmas Eve with Ryan's parents, Christmas morning at home, Christmas afternoon with the Bowman's. A trip to play in the snow in Payson and another to Tucson to the Reid Park Zoo on New Year's Eve.

Cousins - Corrine, Justin, Ainsley, Eliza & Ethan

Ethan was more excited about his gifts from Grandma & Grandpa than he was about his gift from Santa.

Little Miss E loves to be outside... as long as she doesn't get any snow up her nose (sorry... Mom was trying to hit Dad)

We got lucky that another family was nearby playing in the snow too. They took a picture for us and we took a picture for them next to our snowman.

Enjoying how close the animals are at the Zoo.

Keep checking back... we'll post January next!

Please Help!

Addy spent several weeks sewing her nights away into the wee hours of morning... it was well worth it!

We think we look pretty amazing... but here is where you come in. We've entered a costume contest on DisneyFamily.com and we need some votes!

Please go here and vote for us. Tell your friends too! Thanks!

A BIG thanks to Crystal for taking our photo and also to Addy's Mom for sewing the Queen of Hearts.

Happy First!

It is simply amazing how time flies! It seems like yesterday that Miss E joined our family. We are so thrilled that she did! She is such a fun little girl. She's sarcastic, loves to squeeze dolls and stuffed animals, loves to eat, started walking around on her birthday, is SUPER loud, loves to dance (especially to the Star Wars theme song), can say 'cheese', 'shoes', 'ball', 'finished', 'bye', 'kitty', and folds her arms to pray. She gets super squirmy when she's tired, but is easy going (especially compared to her brother). She had her annual check-up and is finally on the charts! Weight - 25 lbs. 5 oz. (95-97th%) and Length - 30 1/2 inches (90th%)

Eliza was born on Conference Saturday, so we waited to do her party until the following week. We wanted to make her day special, so we let her open her gifts from Dad and Mom on her birthday and we had to do cake.

Eliza with her newborn Cabbage Patch doll - Nicole Josie (her birthday on her birth certificate is October 4th)

Birthday Cake - Round One

We celebrated her birthday on October 9th at the Park. It was a little warm, but she had lots of friends and family come to celebrate her. It was fun!

Now to the pics...

Halloween... in July

Yes, we all know that Halloween is a BIG deal around here. We've already got our theme for the year planned out and have been looking for patterns that will work, but after this morning we may have to change our plans.

Ethan has been enjoying a box of dress-up accessories... Darth Vader helmet, Captain Hook hat, red cowboy hat, etc. Addy thought that it might be fun to the collection, some other accessories that we already had that were with the Halloween costumes. Specifically, baby Yoda.

Ethan was baby Yoda for his first Halloween... so cute, huh?

With Eliza being the right age, we couldn't resist.

Shots and the Moon!

Both Ethan and Eliza had to their well checks today and both had to get shots. Luckily Ryan had the day off and could help out.

We knew it would be hard, so Addy promised Ethan months ago that if he was good, we would go ride the Carousel at the Mall. He still was extremely hesitant and insisted that he did not want to go. Dad was there, so he threw in another bribe... Despicable Me. We would go see it anyway, so why not!

The appointment continued and Ethan told everyone... I don't want a shot. Another bribe was thrown in... a Star Wars Lego T-Shirt that was purchased to encourage less fit throwing.

The Doctor came in and Ethan told her that he didn't want a shot. Lucky for her, she doesn't give them. He was so ready to leave. The Nurse came back in and gave him his shots... all 5! Ethan is drama (he says so himself), so he gave us a show and survived. He got everything promised.

Eliza got 2 shots and was a trooper! She gave the Nurse the evil stare down after she got her first scream out.

As for stats... Ethan is now 36.4 inches tall (almost tall enough for really fun rides at Disneyland) and 40.75 lbs. Pretty good for a kid who doesn't eat. Eliza is 28.25 inches tall (75%) and 24lbs 2.5 oz (100%, off the charts, but coming closer to them)... we love our chunky girl!

Oh, and Despicable Me... great movie! A must see!

Happy 4th of July

Each year when the 4th rolls around we always have the thought... what are we going to do? It seems that family usually has other plans and we typically don't want to step on toes and invite ourselves over, so we plan our own thing with friends. The last several years we have been able to spend it with our friends, the Harrisons and the Scholes. Sadly, the Harrison's ditched us (guilt trip :) ), so we have been pleased to hang out with the Scholes.
Unfortunately this year, only Natalie and Bryson could make it. Paige was at home sick with Karl supervising. Despite the lack of sports talk (aka. Amare leaving the Suns), we had a great time.

Bryson and Ethan

Ethan and Bryson were goofing off throughout dinner and making each other giggle up a storm. It's amazing that they finished eating their food! We enjoyed some grilled favorites, watermelon, corn, and Root Beer floats.

Eliza and Ethan - not wanting their picture taken... bah!

In the past we've headed to a Church parking lot near Tumbleweed Park to see Chandler's firework show, but avoid the crowd. This year a nearby Christian Church had some fireworks, so we set up on a lawn in a subdivision near the Church. We couldn't have picked a better place... it was awesome! The weather was cool and the sights were amazing. Eliza did great with her first viewing of fireworks, but was ready for the show to be finished 10 minutes before it ended... along with the rest of us.

We had a great day celebrating our country and the many freedoms we enjoy!

9 Months

Miss E is 9 months... holy cow, time flies!

She has two teeth (as of May 1st) that can chew anything. She tolerates baby food and enjoys eating Gerber Oatmeal. She LOVES table food and will try anything you give her. She is super independent, a change for us, and wants to do everything herself. She can be a bit stubborn at times. Wonder where she gets that from? She is crawling up a storm and can pull herself up to almost anything. Surprisingly enough, she hasn't been into much, but chases down the cats and ends up with a hand full of fur 85% of the time. She is strong willed and ready to walk. She has a great sense of humor, a little sarcastic, and loves to make us laugh by putting her arms behind her head or talking in an ever so sweet voice, followed by a yell.

We love having Eliza around our house. Her bright smile, gorgeous eyes, and goofy laugh bring so much joy! Happy 9 months, Miss E!!!

The Utah/Idaho Trip That Almost Wasn't

After several months of not knowing if we could go or not, Ryan got the okay to go to Utah and Idaho for the Horace and Theone Smith family reunion. Ryan's team was expecting a board to arrive and would be spending about 2 weeks testing it. He also had been told that there would be a possibility that he would be in Boston around the same time as the reunion. There was NO way that Addy could survive a 13 hour car trip to Salt Lake with Ethan and Eliza on her own. Luckily, things worked out and we could all go together.

We headed out early Wednesday morning to travel to Salt Lake to Addy's sister's, Ally, house. We were anticipating that Eliza would be a bear to travel such a long distance with. She hates a trip to Walmart... 3 miles away. What would she be like traveling to Utah/Idaho?!? She amazed us and didn't start melting until 100 miles out of Salt Lake. We'll take it! We got to Ally's in one piece and enjoyed seeing the family.

On Thursday, we headed to the Hogle Zoo. It has changed a lot since the last time Addy was there... when she was 11? We really enjoyed the Zoo and all the primates. We really had fun laughing at the people who were complaining about the weather. The hottest day of the year so far, 94. There was a breeze, so we were happy!

The rest of the Bowman clan arrived at Ally's Thursday night... that's right... the whole clan! Well, almost... Daniel was still in AZ. But that's 11 adults and 17 kids under one roof! Thank you Hotel Isom!

The Smith Reunion was a three day shindig, but knowing our kids, we decided that one day at the lake would be plenty. We stayed at Ally's house on Friday. Ethan had a BLAST hanging out with Aidan and Tate. Addy and Eliza got a chance to go visit a friend and her twins - so sweet.

Saturday we headed up to the lake. The Bowman family was in charge of lunch that day and were expecting about 90 people. When we arrived at the lake, we discovered that a lot of people had already headed out and even more were packing up. We got to see all the Aunts and Uncles and some cousins before they left.

After a rocky start, Ethan rode the Jet Ski... and liked it! He also got to ride the boat with his cousins and really started having fun. By the end of the day, he was playing in the water and digging the dirt. Eliza enjoyed the dirt as well... she ate some, but mostly played in it.

It was so fun to see so many and to meet all the new little ones.

We headed back to Ally's house to stay the night. Up to this point, Eliza has NOT slept well in other places. We were so glad that she started getting comfortable.

Sunday morning we woke up early, packed the car, and almost got away before waking up the house. We're so grateful to always have a clean bed to sleep in, delicious food, and wonderful company when we travel to Salt Lake.

We headed down the road and made pretty good time. Eliza didn't last as long, but we all made it home in one piece. It was a great trip and we were so glad that everything worked out!

Goodbye, Old Friends

After a few months of contemplating, we have decided to get a new car and trade in BOTH of our cars. Yes, yes... how could Addy part from her beloved Beetle (Myrtle)? It was a tough decision, but she was sitting in the garage and only being driven a couple miles a week. It just wasn't fair. She should be out on the road, hugging some tight mountain curves. That's what she deserves and we couldn't give it to her. Two car seats were just too tight!
We can't forget Gertie... our Equinox. She was great too! Awesome cargo space and seats that adjusted to fit the tallest or smallest person. Unfortunately, two car seats also filled the back seat and there wasn't much room for anything else. We'll miss you too Gertie!

Addy has had her eye on the new Chevy Traverse, but after discovering that our double jogging stroller couldn't fit in the back with all of the seats up we started looking other directions. Ryan got excited and thought that he could persuade Addy into a mini van - FAT chance! We found the GMC Acadia... just like the Traverse on the inside, but looks a little like the Equinox on the outside.

After a week of visiting the dealership down the road, they just didn't have what we were looking for. Addy was giving up her dream car, so she HAD to have a silver replacement. Ordering a 2010 Acadia would take some time, so we looked at some different options (aka. other dealers).

Ryan was curious and headed to Carmax to see how much they would give us for the Beetle. We were a little discouraged from the low ball offer from the other dealer, but Carmax offered us what we expected (from KBB, of course). We took the Equinox in as well and got a great offer. Fortunately, they had a 2007 Silver GMC Acadia available. With all the features we wanted, plus more! The previous owners lived in Sun City West and were leasing it, so it looks practically new with low miles. It couldn't have worked out better and we love our new ride! For those who are wondering... which personalized plate stayed... TMBG, of course!

We still haven't taken any pictures, but will post some after we wash the new ride... Bessie!

Happy, Happy Birthday Ethan Dear

Ethan is four! Four, can you believe it! We tried telling him that four year olds don't throw fits. It lasted a couple of days. Hey, it was worth a shot.

He has grown so much in the last year... all the way potty trained!, riding his trike (a big deal for a kid who excels in fine motor), LOVES anything Lego, Star Wars, and Toy Story, writing his name, and doing chores. This boy tries us daily, but we love him!
His special day fell on a Sunday this year, so he ended up with a week long celebration.
On Saturday, our 7th Anniversary, Ryan, Addy, Ethan, Grandma Louise, Grandpa Eric, and Grandma Pat headed to Pei Wei for Ethan's special dinner. We've started a tradition of going out to eat at the Birthday kid's choice. Ethan chose Pei Wei for the 2nd year in a row. He had a great time and felt special, being the center of attention. Of course, it didn't hurt that he got some Star Wars Lego guys that he talked about non-stop for weeks before. Thanks to the grandparents for loving Ethan and coming to honor him.

On Sunday, he went to Primary and was excited to be sung to and shared some Toy Story fruit snacks with his class. That evening he opened his gifts from Dad and Mom. Planet Heroes! So cool!

Toy Story 3 was coming out near Ethan's birthday, so long ago we decided that we would go see it for his party. We planned on going Saturday, June 19th and were excited... until that morning. Ethan didn't want to eat his cereal and decided that sitting on his bed was better. Frustrating, but that's Ethan. Addy headed to the theatre to greet all his friends and cousins, hoping that he would eat and come. Luckily, he ate it and showed up about 20 minutes into the film. We LOVED the movie!

After the show we all went back to the house for pizza, cake, and ice cream. We had a great time and loved having everyone over! Thanks for all the thoughtful gifts and for supporting Ethan... even when he's melting down.

Kids Say...

Ethan has been learning LOTS of new words and phrases. Sometimes he uses them the right way and sometimes not so much. Here are a few that we couldn't resist writing down...

As Addy and Ethan were eating lunch one day...
Ethan: I'm SO dramatic!
(If you know Ethan, the is the biggest understatement)

As Addy, Ethan, and Eliza were in the car driving to the Zoo...
Ethan: I'm skinny and Eliza is plump!

Treading Water

Each week, Addy plans on updating the blog. That is, going back and blogging about everything that has happened in the last several months. The task is daunting and a nap usually wins. So, instead of a nap she is hard at work chipping away at the months of a neglected blog. No more excuses... hopefully we'll get back into the habit and you'll be seeing more of the Heap family. Check out some of the most current events below.

Happy Birthday Bryson!

Ethan has been continuing co-op preschool with his friends. One of the boys birthday was on our scheduled preschool day, so we decided to make a celebration of it! Who really wants to learn and go to school on their birthday? We met up at the park with the splash pad... ready to play, eat pizza, have fun, and enjoy cupcakes. We were so excited to celebrate Bryson's special day with him.

Some reasons why we love Bryson:
- He and Ethan are SO much alike... we think that Heavenly Father had to put them in two different families because no mom on Earth has the patience for these two 24/7
- He LOVES rainbows
- He is kind
- He is a great listener
- He has the best smile
- His handsome brown eyes
- He is gentle with babies
- He is SO smart
- He never forgets

Happy Birthday Bryson... we hope your day was a special one!

White Mountain Heaven

This weekend was the Gila Valley Temple dedication in Thatcher/Safford, Arizona. The Temple dedication is a sacred ceremony that can only be attending by worthy members of the Church, 8 years and up. That meant that we would be stuck, since we have two little ones at home. It was broadcast at all the Stake Centers in Arizona several times, so one of us could have gone at different times. We saw it as a good opportunity to take a much needed break. We had no Sunday obligations with callings and our bodies, souls, and family needed some relaxing time together.
We decided to rent a cabin in Greer, Arizona. Our friend, Carol, helped make it more affordable... and more fun! We left the Valley of the Sun Friday afternoon and after a few stops to grab movies, lunch, and a overturned RV, we arrived at the Greer Lodge about 5:00pm. We originally planned on settling in and heading to Eager to get groceries, but the kids were spent and we were hungry. We half enjoyed an over priced meal at the 373 restaurant. Two kids who have been in the car all day have a hard time sitting in a restaurant. Ethan enjoyed walking out by the lake and looking at the geese more than his $6 Mac & Cheese. Memories.
We headed back to the cabin and Addy got the kids settled, bathed, and one in bed while Ryan went grocery shopping. He arrived back at the cabin about the same time Carol did.. he just did it a little slower than she did. :) After both kids were tucked snugly into bed, Ryan headed out to check out the stars with the borrowed telescope but didn't have any more of the already breathtaking views than we did with the naked eye.

The cabin and woods surrounding were gorgeous. There were two small streams behind the cabin, a grassy area with dandelions under the shade of the tall pines, picnic tables and chairs placed in just the right spots, a cute walking bridge to join paths together... simply heaven. The sound of quiet with Ethan's constant sound effects of defeating droids with his lightsaber, the cool breeze, the warm sun, the fresh smell of the pines, the vast amount of stars in the sky. We enjoyed it all!

We did have some not-so-pleasant time too. Eliza was the first to show signs of a cold/sinus problems and didn't sleep much. The first night we clocked about 4 hours of sleep and the second... maybe 3. The trip was sleepless, but definitely restful. We can't wait to get back to the cabin and enjoy the beauty of the White Mountains.

Post Edit:
We rented Cabin #15... Here's the web site in case you would like to have a look.

Shiner

Without fail, the Heap children will roll off of some high up place during their infancy. The problem is not that the Heap parents neglect their children, but that the Heap kids don't roll - until suddenly one day... plop! Ethan rolled of the kitchen counter. No scratches, bruises, nothing!

Eliza was on the changing pad on the bathroom counter and once Addy turned, so did Eliza. Right onto the floor. This time, there were bruises... Guilt... pure guilt.

Her left eyelid swelled a little and she had a bit of a black eye, but all is well and Dad and Mom are definitely more cautious while this little one is on the changing pad.

6 Months

We can't believe it... time has flown by SO fast! Miss E is now 6 months old and as fun as ever!

She is still a little chunk... 21 lbs. 9oz. (97+ percentile) and 26 3/4 inches (75-90 percentile). We constantly get comments of how big she is, but amazingly she is almost 2 inches shorter than Ethan was at 6 months. She is eating solids - cereal, veggies, and fruit. She is also now on formula. She has the BEST smile, but is still working on her laugh. She is definitely a Momma's Girl and even cries sometimes when handed to Dad. She is also a smarty pants... we thought Ethan was smart at his age. We're in for it! We love you Eliza! Happy 6 Months!

Behind...

Yes, yes... we are behind on our posts. We have several good excuses too. We will be updating our neglected blog, so keep an eye out for all of our posts (aka... excuses).

In the mean time, enjoy the new template and a random picture of Miss E. Are you ready for swim suit season... check out those thighs!
