80 pricks- ouch!!!

we decided it was time to get little man tested for allergies. with the past few months being filled with lots of colds, a constant runny nose, & diarrhea we started thinking that he might be allergic to something he was eating or allergic to all of this wonderful pollen in charlotte! yes, i know he is in daycare and it is filled with germs & that causes the constant colds but i just had something tugging at my heart telling me it was something more. so we got an appointment with dr. ashe at asthma and allergy & he is great! i highly recommend him if you are looking for someone to work with children. (thanks to mary and sallie for the tip!) so- they asked us lots of questions and then came the hard part- he got 80 pricks on the back and then needed to be still & not scratch them for the next 20 minutes!! thanks to honey she came along with some brand new toys to keep him entertained & his mind in another direction. each one contained something different to see what exactly he was allergic to. the first two pictures below look horrible but we actually got better news than we thought! he is allergic to all the outside grasses & pollens & such but as for foods dr. ashe said he is looking pretty good. his scores on the foods were in the middle range so the doctor told us to keep giving them to him & if he has a slight allergy to it he will probably grow out of it. he pointed out what we need to be careful with or watch him on just to make sure he doesn't react to them. funny thing was - i was determined that he was allergic to milk with my own testing method- come to find out he had one of the best scores on milk!! brett had a special cupcake with blue icing waiting on him for dessert after dinner. he took it down in no time!

adventures in camping....at the DOUBLE DOWN Ranch

Stephen, Lucy and I embarked on first ever camping trip this weekend. It was fabulous. I can't count the number of people who did under the breath mumbling or outright giggling when we told them of our upcoming adventure. We are pretty much city folk. But with borrowed necessitities and great attitudes- not to mention fabulous land, food and scenery, we had a GREAT time. So great, that we mentioned camping again sort of soon. But has to be kind of cool, no mosquitos and definitely not hot. And we would like it to happen sort of the way this one did...roaring bonfire, catered dinner and breakfast, great people to be around and cap it off with a 30 minute fireworks show. Goose told me that was her favorite part this morning after she spent the entire time covering her ears with her sweet face buried in my chest!! Enjoy the pics- the memories of this were too beautiful not to capture and share. And when I look at my hunky husband I feel REAL blessed.

goose's big THREE!

Easter weekend was crazy fun and filled with all kinds of activities! too many great pics to try and choose from so i have just decided to post LOTS of them! on saturday we had lucy's bday party and then another egg hunt at jane's house (who i work for). henry just didn't know what to do with himself with so many times to run around outside and be free!

henry with bebe and papa

downing a cookie before the cupcakes were even served

totally freaked by the easter bunny!

she blew out those three candles like a pro! and then decided that TWO cupcakes are better than one! my kind of girl!!!

this is jane and cindy- who i work for at circa. they have been such an important part of my life and henry's. these two ladies have been such an inspiration to me in my last 9 years at circa. not only have they taught me so much about creating a beautiful home for someone but they have also been such a blessing and a wonderful friend to me. they are part of the reason i love going to work everyday!

week in birmingham

we headed to birmingham for a short weekend visit about 2 weeks ago. will, lilly & kelly came too for a visit from san fran while they were on their spring break. they didn't arrive till late friday night so henry didn't get to see them till saturday morning. he woke up and was sooo excited!! he couldn't stop screaming and running around. brett and i headed back home on sunday and henry stayed with his parents and cousins for the rest of the week! it was so great to have a break- and the house was very very quiet! thanks to bebe and papa for giving us some time off! they said he loved being outside everyday so they would take lots of jeep rides. they also visited the zoo and had a blast!!

school fun!

i was picking henry up early the other week when we were going to head to birmingham. i knew it was going to be lunch time when i arrived so i thought i should get a few shots. it is just too cute to see them all sitting at this little table together. they put the white t-shirts on them so they don't get all messy which is so smart because henry pulls his bib off every time he eats at home! i might have start using this trick. most of the kids sit in the small little chairs but our wild man has to sit in one with straps so he won't get away. here are a few pics of some of the kids. i didn't get a shot of one of his best buddies- miss karma- his teacher tells me they liked to hold hands and run down the hill together on the playground. uh-oh! startin' early on the girls!!!!!

lunch time at school! top picture is henry with delany- next photo is nevin and then gabi. some of his best buddies!

this is ms. cherry, henry's main teacher. she has been so great to have in our lives! he loves her and cannot wait to get to school to play with her and all of his friends.

RaNdOm- but NOT.

I have to tell a story...at first I was feeling a little embarassed. Semi-stalkerish. But this morning I woke up and thought- really, God is not a God of coincidence. So He deserves some credit here.
As you know we have the Connolly blog on our sidebar. I have checked it from time to time but not regularly- until about 2 weeks ago. Jessi (the author) is a friend of Lindsay's and lives with her handsome husband Nick who is in seminary in Pullyap, WA. Outside of Seattle. As I write, I am not even certain I know the details. They head up a place called New Beginnings. For pregnant unwed girls. They have two precious children, Elias and Gloriana. If (and when) I meet Jessi I will undoubtedly hug her and may, honestly, cry. She is incredible.
So reading her blog one day, I stumbled upon another blog (it is like a web, one blog can take you to another). Lauren, was her staff assistant. And equally seriously impressive blogger. These girls can flat out write. In Lauren's blog it mentioned that she was moving to Charlotte!!

So I emailed Jessi, facebook friended Lauren and Jessi, and tracked that girl down. Lauren is coming to dinner next week. I am thrilled. It is totally random- but so intentional. That is how God is if we really look at him. He uses all the things that we see as random, or accidental and shows us just how involved in the tapestry of our lives He really is.
Funny thing is- last night I was so excited to share the news with Stephen, but also a little apprehensive. I love stuff like this- he loves it too, but his personality is not to do all this dot connecting and random emailing. So I shared the story (trying to keep it brief and streamlined was tough) and then kind of said, "So what do you think, isn't that amazing?".
Sidenote- this is also after I had not only announced we were having Lauren to dinner but I had asked if she could come dogsit Tex this Saturday. If you read her blog- you wouldn't want anyone else to come watch your pup.
His response- "have you seen a picture of her?". (Lauren, if you read this- Stephen is totally normal and I think you will quickly see why I love him so). My thought in response, have I seen a picture, yes- on her blog, and on her facebook page. I feel like I know the heart of this girl, as in she comes over and we will have to focus on a bit of small talk- because you can't dive in to all the deep stuff right away! And honestly, it was sort of a normal question for one to ask. I had just told him that I found a new friend, had invited her to dinner, asked her to dogsit, stay in our house and was sure she could babysit soon. So- a mental picture is a natural thing we desire, especially if someone was going to care for our pup and babe. Stephen was merely asking if we knew anything else besides the viral web story of this person. Understandable- and honestly- I know he thinks the story cool. He has come to expect things like this from me.

So Lauren- we can't wait to meet you. I can't wait to chat, dote, laugh and make sure your first weeks have been okay in Charlotte (and offer you random furniture, food, advice and prayers). I can't wait for you to meet Lucy and Stephen. And Lindsay (sister in law) and Brett and their precious babe Henry. And I really can't wait for more tales of NB and to know your heart. I am inspired by your transparency and encouraged by your passion for Christ.

Easter Sunday

Fabulous morning- church with entire family, lunch and hunt after and then....what every man in our family waits for....THE MASTERS. It was great to have such a family centered weekend, to be really spoiled by CeCe and PopPop and their willingness to work. Seriously, I think my mom may have done no less than 6 loads of laundry. She doesn't sit down and is a fabulous grandmother. Plays, runs errands and makes my life so much easier. I am still feeling guilty, I lost my patience and really asked her to let me "do" some things at my house. Really, if that is the way she serves, should I be so selfish? I am still trying to pray about this one. It does test patience for EVERYONE to have five people in semi-tight quarters for five days. And because I for SURE have neurosis about Lucy and sleep, it can wear me down. But- great weekend- celebrating the risen Christ, who as Steve Eason said Sunday- doesn't care about the facts, and thank goodness. I am beside myself that we serve a God- not worried about status, history, past mistakes, etc. but who loves us right where we are.
