puddles....

no shirt, no shoes required. (well maybe Crocs!). free. in so many ways- no cost, no holds barred, no rules (except stay out of the street for traffic). we have had rain, rain, rain for days and it was the perfect afternoon to do some play in the puddles. Preston came down to teach Goose how it is really done and after 5 minutes both were shirtless, laying down and swimming in our fairly large body of water in the dip in our driveway. splashing, kicking, squealing, laughing. it started by bending over to get the hair wet, then moved to a headstand (for P), then just laying in the puddle. Sophia came over to get a taste of the action as well. Thankfully Goose and P remained calm for about five minutes so Sophia could go toes in, and then just plop down and do some splashing of her own. another five minutes and then MADS and CARTER showed up!! on came the official track meet (C is fastest white boy in CLT) and Preston had met his match. sweet lucy tried to keep up but had her own grand time, trotting back and forth at her own pace. this is the stuff i don't want to miss.

funny....

Lucy is really developing her personality. Over the past couple of days she has said some of the funniest things. She spent the weekend with CeCe and PopPop in Virginia. Had a ball. Was allowed to take her stroller to the grocery store with CeCe (a feat I don't even consider) as well as baby and do some shopping of her own. We really missed her but it was a great weekend for Stephen and I do to get some projects done (blow the massive amount of pollen off roof, clean out my closet, and check out some houses for my parents) and more than anything just enjoy each other with NO plans! Below are some funny things she has said lately (some are not as funny, but rather trying our patience)....
  • She said she wanted yogurt yesterday morning, after the second bite and the arrival of Daddy in the kitchen, she announced, "Dad, you want some of this yogurt, I am going to like it when I am bigger." Ha. Thankfully Dad just got a spoon and encouraged sharing the yogurt to get her to have some for breakfast. Sometimes it just takes group participation for her.
  • Last night, during the hour plus of singing, talking and entertaining herself after we put her in bed and before falling asleep, I could hear her talking. "Baby, it is gonna storm! Yes, Oh my God." This in turn, posed good discussion for Stephen and I before we fell asleep on how to handle what she was saying, explain that wasn't okay to say, what friend did she hear that from, etc. This morning while brushing teeth, I did my best to explain to her that God is a big God, and we don't take His name in vain. Kind of a hard concept for a new three year old. I added that we could say things like "Oh God you are so good for giving us rain!" but if we need to say something like "Oh my!" we could say that or "Oh my goodness!". We will see if that conversation had any stickiness.
  • Had a meltdown this morning. After breakfast, while doing some pre-school coloring, I walked in the kitchen and asked what she was drawing. She looked at me and said, "Quit bugging me!" Another discussion about how we talk to our parents with kindness and respect (maybe a good way for God to remind me to do the same) and a trip to our room to think about it. Typically, that phrase is reserved for Tex. Mainly when we are all out in the backyard and Lucy is digging for worms.
  • Last night I overheard a conversation that she and Dad were having before her bath. Lucy was very curious as to why girls sit down to go to the bathroom and boys stand up. Thought to myself that it would be interesting to see how Stephen responds. He just said, "Because that is how God made them go to the bathroom". Smart man- simple answer.
  • Newest song choice before bed- "This Little Light of Mine." Just plain cute. Lucy has her own version and gets a little mixed up on the "not gonna put it in my pocket, I'm gonna let it shine." (for parents- there is a cute little four CD set of 120 bible songs, really worth the money and will take you back to years of church and sunday school songs you forgot you ever knew. And makes for some new songs to sing when you are trying to divert attention from whatever activity your toddler at that moment, is opposed to.)

I can't wait for Henry to talk- their conversations will no doubt have us all cracking up. These kiddos are so fun...such a blessing and I am incredibly grateful, thankful, rejoicing and humbled by them every day.
