GP happening :) and not so :(

hey ppl...another weekend is here! just couldnt wait for the weekend. have had a really bz week before this. keep asking myself when is weekend comin every single day eversince monday. GP posting isnt tat great after all. why? because i'm just too free! :P and we haf tutorials every morning and it last for 3 hours and even more for 1 topic sometimes. just couldnt stand the boring lecturers keep on mumbling to themselves and we have to put our ears together just to get at least wad he is trying to say. tat's enuff for a day but there's worse to come when i go for the GP attachment in the afternoon. goin there with the enthusiasm that to learn and to see more "interesting" case and learn more but unfortunately i was turned down by the patients!! no onli 1 but one after one. i spent the 1st hour in the staff room doin nothing!!! and all i can see is those simply and common case such as "common" cold (from the name itself u can tell how common it is), regular follow up and continue medication! BoRiNG.. but GP is still a good specialist after all. u get connected to the pts and gain trust from them.

yesterday afternoon, spent an afternoon with the GP again. again, i couldnt see the minor surgery tat was performed on a pt to remove a cyst and spent 30 mins in the consultation room. due to the boredness, i make full use of the things in the consultation room - take my own temperature,BP and weight myself. tot of proving yen wrong by saying me losing weight. but actually i was wrong...lost 6kg instead. :P

on the same day, i met this little gal, who was abused by his dad when she was still a baby. got shaken tremendously. and imagine a baby..her brain is still so tiny and mobile and fragile. because of tat..she got MULTIPLE brain injuries and lesions due to concussion, contusion. wad type of father can be worse than tat. due to those lesions, she develops epilepsy and have episodes EVERY SINGLE SECOND!!! when she was brought into the consultation room by her mum, she was shaking all the time, with both her arms stiff, eyes blinking continuously, mouth open and saliva drooling! and he spinal cord was injured as well, so she couldnt hold up her head and stand herself. how can a father do tat to his own daughter and causing all these prob in the rest of her life? just bcos of his irrational action due to his stress or wadever reason, he ruin the life of a little gal. it's really saddening to see her like tat. but at least she's free from his dad now and his father has been sentenced to jail!

there goes my another day..and wad's comin up next? we will be having integrative week for the comin week. as the name applies, we got to integrate btw the 3 medical schools in dunedin, christchurch and wellington. heard there might be some video conferencing thingy goin on. but not very sure how they run it tho. so hopefully it will be sth easy and not so bz. and the week after tat will be easter holiday! for 1 week. so can relax a lil bit and not to think bout my attachment at this pt of time. yay!.....wad to do today? nothing XD

p/s: congrats for all the pharmacy ppl :) exam is finally over! enjoy the post eos5 happening to the max ya!!! finally u guys are free!
froggy lae "sunburn" joke presented during his presentation on breast cancer! LOL..

A friend tat i met back in IMU 2 years ago i think since we din really know each other during sem 1. A great friend who is full with responsibility, caring to the ppl around him and a cool dude to hang around with. well, have no idea since when i get closer to this guy but probably after he moved to vista from klang and started hanging out with the movies, dinner and stuff...not forgetting shopping! haha...hey man! thanks for all the time that we spent together and also thanks for the talk, conversation bout past present and future in mamak, thanks for the advices u have given me during the 2 years and noticing me being down when i was and always being there for me :P great to have u as my bro and will never forget those time in IMU.

GP posting

GP stands for general practice which is the posting tat i'm attached to for this 5 weeks. have been goin for 2 GP this week and lots of lecture and tutorials. the preparation sheets for the tutorials are like 26 pages!? crazee...and it's not like there are lots of things we need to know but they keep on repeating the same info n makes us more confuse bout the whole problem. even a prep sheet for irritable bowel syndrome oso more than 20 pages.

What i like bout GP posting?
1. the things we learn are more relevant to everyday life such as flu(how to differentiate diff types of flu and causes), headache, back pain, dyspepsia and so on

2. get to see all sorts of patient in all age groups and different presentation and conditions (unlikes HCOE - all old ppl :P)

3. GP here have canggih system..everything computerised even wif prescription and consultation..no more writing on papers but typing!! if nurses have sth to tell the doctor...the nurses dun haf to go into consultation room and interrupt the whole thing but just send a msg to the doc thro comp. every single one have their very own account to check their tasks n stuff.

4. GP knows everything bout the patient including the whole family from head to toe..the pt will discuss everything with the doctor.

5. appiontment system - 15 mins for every appointment..no long queue and waiting !!

6. i have monday afternoon OFF!!

What i don't like bout GP and GP posting?
1. there's only 15 minutes for one appointment...if there's anything more than that..have to make another appointment!! and pay for that. so have to start telling story from the most serious condition. but tat's how the system is...some GP even have 10 mins for every appointment :)

2. lots of tutorials and lectures...which are boring!! and long preparation need to be done!

3. everything is so evidence based. dun haf a definite answer whether to do this or not...give this treatment or tat. GP is the no1 specialist that always live in uncertainty.

4. need to do a reseach bout a question and write up a report and present...evidence based again...

2 months~!

i have oledi been here in christchurch for 2 months!! time has passed so fast especially when we are bz. time just passed week after week and we just have to move along wif it for not being left behind. guess everyone at diff places is moving as well in the journey of life. different paths we will go through and experience different things but i believe we are all goin to the same direction and we are still the ones tat we know. ppl said...distance and time will fade away the frenship tat used to be strong since we go through all sorts of different things and we share nothing in common. there's hard to find a topic to talk wif each other as u might not understand the things tat someone talk bout anymore. u not longer able to talk everything to ur old frens as ppl have grown differently. well, i guess it's depends on how much effort u put on to maintain the frenship. and not to let ppl "serotyped" it..saying that's the way it shud be and do nothing bout it. if u do appreciate the frenship and wanna to maintain it..pls..work on it and u will get much more than wad u expected.

anyway...haven been seeing the ppl back in malaysia in ages. everyone seems to be really bz especially those in seremban...family medicine ppl~! still free eh? but i guess surgery and internal med students are struggling with the cultural shock and biological clock adjustment. no longer staying up til nite..no longer free all the time but hospital all the time!? well, just need time to adjust..dun get stressed up bout it :) cheerz.. as for ppl who are free doin family medicine like me now..maintain ur quality of life!! continue to do wad u like...hee as u'll never get a chance to pick it up when u working. tat's wad the doctors here told me! keke

and few more days for the pharmacy ppl to have their exam...26th March (the date...sound familiar) doesnt matter...anyway, study hard ya ppl! i know it's stressful especially the last few days..tat's wad we all experienced when we prepare for EOS5. was kinda lost for the last few days before exam. stack of notes but dunno wad to study ==" All the best~!

alright...i'm doin GP attachment right now. another 5 weeks! basically i have all tutorials and lectures in the morning and go for GP attachment in the afternoon. we have 3 afternoon attachement with 2 GP so i have monday afternoon off. an extra day for me to rest! yay! of cos the end of the attachment..need to submit report..sit for exam and osce! MSK examination this time. not shoulder and hip but shoulder and knee :) now...back at home from lecture waiting to go for my GP at 145..1st time meeting this GP! the other was great. get to do lots of practice with him although the basic things XD BP, auroscope and so on!

all the best ppl for everything! cheerz Random o_O

RENT

Haf i not talk bout RENT yet? this is a musical that i'm addicted to lately. 1st watched the movie i guess last year or the year before. anyway...watched it when i was in IMU. never realise that i would have a chance to watch it on stage. this musical is just different from the others...no longer with the romance love story line and romantic songs but more to rock muscial and love from the other angle. it was really a great movie and went for the musical last weekend and it was a great experience either.
well, the actors and actresses are not the 1st line ppl back in US. apparently there are quite a few team that are doin the same show. of cos this will not be as good as the main 1, but the songs are stil nice and the feeling is still great. let's see...the main actor is not too bad but the 2nd main actor looks bit old and he cant really act. the main actress...cant sing tat well tho. haha...but overall performance..it was great and this is my 1st time watching RENT on stage. quite differnet from the movie but story line remains the same. it's really cool~! downloaded the soundtracks after that and addicted to it... :)

HCOE is OVER!!

HCOE stands for Healthcare of the Elderly which is my 1st run here in clinical school. after 5 weeks of attachment there...it's finally over. the attachment was relaxing for the 1st 4 weeks but not for the last week. probably we leave everything behind and onli do it during week five. the "last minute" spirit still surviving.

so basically this week was quite a bz 1. haf to do a long case study which i need to follow a pt and know bout him/her from head to toe and almost every single things and type a report out which is 17 pages long in my case. it was really crazee and spend almost every nite typing the report not forgetting tutorials on some of the days. besides, had a psychiatry OSCE yesterday and it went well and also a clinical senario test this morning. so haf to do bit of studies. so after all the bz stuff...hopefully i can pass this attachment. the next one will be GP. will be attached to 2 different GP and basically need to travel by bus again to the clinic. ish ish!

stay in PMH for the last day today. morning was bz..with test, tutorial and printing out the reports and submitting them. spent some time for discussion on which GP to choose for the next run as well. after tat went to the ward i attached to and say bye to the patients and the stuffs there. had a nice chat wif the registrar and house surgeon tho. basically just crapping. haha...talking bout difference btw msia (where my registrar and me from) and india (where my HO from) and talk bout psyc problem in Japan (where my other colleague from). haha! not forgetting the last minute teaching by my registrar on laxative!? random eh..and they were laughing on a pt who need suppository :) shh...shudnt tell this..if not they will got sue! :P anyway..really enjoy it and..goin to miss the run soon since all the other attachments r goin to get bz and bzier!indeed it's really a good attachment to start wif!

after all the work, finally i can rest a lil by doin nothing at home! haha...suddenly felt so lost. the feeling is just the same as after every system in imu. dunno wad to do..hehe! will be goin for potluck tmr wif seniors from imu (*hint: potluck means everyone brings 1 dishes for a meal together) and another gathering wif the asian group at nite! see how it goes, might not be goin tho..cos wanna have some rest oso

anyway, hope everyone is doin fine no matter wad they r doin..and no matter where they are! keep in touch ppl and keep me up to date if there's anything! although i got alot of spies all around! ho ho ho. cheers

Lantern Festival

Went for lantern festival in Christchurch!! haf no idea why do they have it in such a time when there's nothing special goin on for Chinese! mebe they just combined all the celebration for chinese together into this celebration? or they just wanna make the town to be full of events. haha! they really got all sort of events such as dogs' pride day that i mentioned before, wild food day and lots more. can see posters all around the city. anyway..this lantern festival is on both saturday and sunday and since we got nothing to do at nite...we went to haf a look on satuday - missing part of american idol =S. and when we reached there...all we can see is..lantern and ppl. there are so many of ppl tat we hardly walk around the place and cant even see the stage which has all sorts of performance including malay dance :) anyway...just walk around with the crowd. n surprisingly there r lots of ang mo there as well and they r the ones who r having the lantern but not the chinese. haha...and yea! the pic is one of the lake nearby at victoria square with the lantern. quite a nice display they haf over there tho.

ish! wake up super early today at around 7!! wad's wrong wif me? my biological clock is totally changed from last time when i was in malaysia. last time i always stayed up to around 3 or 4 oclock n sleep til late in the morning. but here...always need to sleep before 1 and wake up around 7 sth n get ready to go to the hospital. so called the healthy sleepin style. n apparently i planned to stay up til late but starting dozing off at 1 sth. lol! since i'm up early, i shall make full use of my time! n here i'm now :D

1st of all...i PASSED my neurological examination assessment yest!! it was a 15 minutes osce with the real pt! yeah...pt with the signs!! so we cant just memorise everything n said that they dun haf either 1 of them. hehe...anyway, the pt has fasciculation, loss of reflexes, reduced power and sensation. anyway..i just find it hard to report bout the sensation part cos it can be so inconsistence ...n i just said there's slight reduced sensation sense. hehe! anyway..it was fun n great experience!

n this evening i'm goin to watch RENT with 2 of my frens. it's a musical if some of u don't know bout it. keke...actually looking forward to it!! update with this wif u all again after i went for it. i'm sure it's goin to be nice :) oh yea...today is Dog's Pride Day in new zealand. there's some parade goin on for doggie! planned to go n see but it's kinda far away from here. so din get to see! haha...so Happy Dog's Pride Day ppl..
