My Oscar Night Review

I watched the Oscars last night in between getting school stuff ready and folding clothes and I have to tell ya, I was NOT impressed. Apparently it was the lowest rating Oscars in 21 years. That’s pretty sad considering that it was Oscars 80th year.

This was by far the least appealing Oscars show right off the bat for me. There were no movies that I wanted to check out just because they were nominated. I’m not a fan of gory movies and it seemed like that was the theme of the evening, with the exception of Juno, which I would actually like to see.

Jon Stewart did an okay job but I really miss the Billy Crystal days! That time he did that spoof when Jerry McGuire was nominated was classic! I also really enjoyed Ellen Degeneres last year. This year I just felt like something was missing. Speaking of missing, they left footage of Whoopi Goldberg out of the line-up of Oscar hosts over the years. I felt really bad for her because she practically boo-hood on The View this morning over the slight.
(I know how you feel, Whoopi! I feel like I am left out of something at least once a month. Girls can be so catty!)

I did watch the Red Carpet footage before the Oscars and I have my favorite and not so favorite looks ready. Also, WHAT was up with Gary Busey? Freak!!

ABSOLUTE FAVORITE LOOK

HEIDI KLUM
I think Heidi looks gorgeous in this dress. She can do no wrong fashion-wise! Love her!

JENNIFER GARDNER
She looks great in this dress! Although I have to admit that I do like her with way less make-up than she had on last night.

KATHERINE HEIGL
Another beautiful red dress. I thought she looked like Old Hollywood Glam. She was so nervous at the podium but still looked great!

PENELOPE CRUZ
I always look forward to what Penelope will wear. Last year she wore a pinkish dress with feathers that I LOVED! I like this dress on her and she has such a pretty smile!

NOT SO FAVORITES
I’m not trying to be mean, however, these girls have great potential but are in need of a new stylist. Kinda like Britney. Here’s my chance to spread the cattiness! Meow!

JENNIFER HUDSON
Jennifer, Jennifer, Jennifer, What were you thinking? You lost some weight and you wear white? I normally wouldn’t rag on her but her dress last year was hideous as well! I still love ya, girl!

NICOLE KIDMAN
The bling was way too much! Show off your baby bump and be proud!

KELLY PRESTON
Do you have any Grey Poupon?

WORST HAIR

CAMERON DIAZ
I actually really loved her dress, but I am mad that she forgot to do her hair!! Show some pride, Cameron!

So those are my favorite and not so favorite looks. I can’t wait to see what that British Guy on the E! channel is going to say!

Let me know if you watched and what you liked and didn’t like!

I Have Been Tagged

London Amy tagged me and now I am supposed to share 5-7 non-important, quirky things about myself. Here goes:

~I am an ice chewer. I love ice and I can’t get enough of it. I will crave it at different times of the day but if I am out and about, I will get Sonic ice which is really yummy! I can’t stop either! The other day I found a hair in my ice at Sonic and it grossed me out to no end. I threw it away immediately! But the next day I went right back and got more ice there. Sick, huh?

~I take a bath to cure anything. Sickness, bad moods, breaks from my kids, I LOVE to take baths. I can take two or three a day. BUT, home is the only place I will take a bath. NOwhere else! It completely grosses me out. It wouldn’t even help if it was a new bathtub. And, believe me folks, my bathtub aint that clean!

~I twirl my hair all the time. My mom calls it twiddle but I like the world twirl better. It started this year because I have to drive so much and am always in a rush. It got bad around Christmas, I was starting to pull it out alot. It’s not that bad now since I got nails. Sometimes I will wake up and be twirling it in my sleep! Plus, it’s hereditary. My dad and brother do it.

~I’m not a fan of being outside. In fact, I hate it. I would rather be inside snuggling up with a book or movie than outside taking a hike and having a picnic. I was so relieved when Kylie didn’t want to sign up for soccer anymore! I will stay in a gymnasium and watch gymnastics all day long but watching a soccer game outside is torture!

~I’ve always wanted long-flowing hair. My hair has always been short or shoulder length and I really envy people with long beautiful hair, (Michael Ann)! I have tried to let it grow out a couple of times but it really drags my face down. If I had money to blow, I would definitely get a weave!

~I LOVE those Food Challenges on the Food Network! I can watch them all day. My favorite was the gingerbread challenge. I also secretly hope that when the chefs move them to another table, one of them falls! I saw the Mufasa head fall off and it was so exiting! Then I felt bad for the chef that worked so hard on it!

That’s all that I can think about right now. I’m pretty quirky!

V-Day 2008

We had a pretty good Valentines this year. Both the kids had parties and both the kids were happy. That makes for a happy mommy and daddy. Riley and I had a great time decorating his Valentines cards for both of his classes. He helped glue paper hearts on the paper, stamp red hearts on the inside of the card, and he wrote his name on all the cards. Sure we had to do it in spurts, he got really tired of writing his name so much!

Kylie breezed through writing her Valentines cards. Mrs.Thomason sent a list home with all the names of the kids in her class and she said, “I don’t need that. I can do it myself!” Apparently she knows the first and last name with correct spelling PLUS the alphabetical order of the class. We can ask, “Who is #17 in the roll?” and she will tell us. It was a little strange but then I remembered that she loves to make the class roll at home and she probably just memorized them from sight instead of just hearing Mrs.T call out everyones names.

Also, Riley decorated the kitchen with paper hearts. They were ALL over the house. Then he used cute feet stickers to decorate the bathroom. Those were his potty-training stickers and he found them and was so proud of himself. I’ve got a lot of scrubbing to do!

I went to Kylie’s party at school and they were playing a game when I got there. She seemed excited and couldn’t wait to get home and look at her Valentines! That was always so much fun to me, too. Here is her class picture with and without Mrs. T. Pretty cute class. She couldn’t wait to tell me that she and Marisa wore the same heart shirt!

I didn’t go to Riley’s party but I did send a GFCF cupcake. He loves icing!!

That night we had gymnastics as usual and Alan met us up at the gym. He said, “Surprise! I thought we could go out to eat for VDay!” I quickly reminded him that I didn’t have food for Riles and so we ended up going home and eating soup from Fish City Grill. Alan had gotten Valentines flowers for me and a balloon with candy and a stuffed animal for Kylie. I made Riley some chicken and french fries which he ate pretty good. All in all it was a pretty good VDay for all of us!

My Little Riles

We are approaching week 3 on the GFCF Diet for Riley and he is doing great! He has been receptive to eating what I put in front of him and has only inquired about McDonalds, goldfish, and cupcakes 178 times. He is not eating as many things as I would like for him to eat but I think that will come in time. I made homemade crispy chicken strips for him and he looked at me like, “seriously?” So, I am finding out that all I have to say is, “Just take ONE bite” and he will do it. He ate the chicken after that. But, when he took one bite of a carrot, he shook his head and said “no” to the rest of it. Baby steps.

I have been packing a lunch for him and it contains mostly snacks, fruit leathers (which he suddenly loves), and either hot dogs or turkey bacon. Our favorite day is Tuesday because we stay up at Early Class for individual speech therapy. We have an hour in between class and therapy so we eat together and I get lots of time to talk and play with him. Yes, I spend a lot of time with him every other day but we are mostly in the car rushing from one place to another. Not so much fun.

Last Tuesday after class he looked up at me with those big hazel eyes and said, “Early Class is finished. Time for Mcdonalds!” Luckily he was smiling and just said it to see what I would say and if I would cave. I just said, “No, no McDonalds. Let’s eat your lunch here.”

Here’s a couple of cute things he is doing:

☑ He sneezed and said, “Bless You!”

☑ He has picked up, “I’m sorry” and “your welcome”

☑ He says ‘Yea” and claps his hands often when we do something

☑ He is learning to say, “I’m mad” but most of the time it just comes out, “maaaaaaad” like a sheep

☑ He is repeating a LOT of the words we say and looking at us for confirmation

He followed, copied, and played with Kylie at the park on Sunday afternoon

He is getting great at “Who is” and What is this” questions

He is the biggest and loudest singer in Early CLASS and LOVES music!!

Kylie was really great with him at the park, too. These past couple of years have been really hard on her and lately she is either annoyed with him or just tries to stay away from him. Recently, he has been trying to hug her or take her hand and she looks at him like, “why are you doing that? you were never interested in me before?” I totally understand where she is coming from but we are still trying to get her to include him and understand why he acts the way he does. How do you explain that to a six year old, though? We have a great book that she has read and she also made her own book about Autism. It’s called, “Autism’, and here is what she wrote”

Dear Partens (Parents)
Please do not let your child stim. I do not have fun with that. I don’t like when Riley screams. I do not appreciate that. I love when Riley doesn’t stim. I love when Riley plays good. That is great. I watch Riley when he jumps on the trampoline. He jumps good. Sometimes Riley does not like to go to bed early. It is good to have Riley as a special boy. And it is good to have you to.

Alan and I are so proud of her for wanting to understand more about him all the time. She knows that when he “stims” (repetitive behavior) to try to get him involved in something else or just to come tell on him, which she loves to do.

Kylie is really coming along in her reading and writing. She has all the Junie B. Jones books and reads about five at a time. She knows what she is reading and can tell me which chapter she is on in each book. She is constantly drawing and writing books and we are so amazed at how her little mind works. She is doing great in Kindergarten and loves her class and she thinks her teacher hung the moon! She is still in her jeans and t-shirt phase and will not wear her hair up at all. I finally caved and got her bangs cut so her hair looks way better in the morning before school. Although she has changed and is becoming a little woman, I still like to cuddle with her at night and smother her with kisses! How much longer will she let me do that?

Quote Of The Week

On the way home from Nana and Poppy’s house this weekend, Kylie told us, “I’m going to go to the Junie B. Jones website when I get home. I’m gonna google it!”

tomorrow

Tomorrow we start back to school. UGH! I don't wanna go back just yet but I know that my body and mind will feel better once I get back....
