happy belated memorial day weekend!

there's nothing like a 3 day weekend, eh? and to me, the Best 3 day weekends are when there's no work/school on monday!

i admit, as someone from a non-military family, i don't often think about origin of memorial day. but i must say that i truly believe i live in the Greatest country in the world and i realize that it is so Great due to the sacrifices of the men and women who fought and continue to fight for our country.

no matter anyone's political views on the current war, these people are real heroes in my eyes.

so wow, i was kinda hoping i wouldn't be sleep deprived this weekend but you what, if it's a result of good fun, i can't complain at all.

all of the fun began sunday night. after church, it was kind of like old times, awww! i've been lamenting the fact that my "youth group" (we're all old people now) doesn't hang out as much since we have full time jobs and college and fun wonderful exciting things like that (yes, there was some sarcasm in that sentence).

so we just stood around outside after church to joke and laugh. since no one really wanted to go home, we ventured to sonic and continued the silliness! then, since no one wanted to go home after that, they asked to come over to my house, where the silliness continued over there. it was kinda geeky silliness also. umm, we had a LAN party, which is basically where computers connect to a network to play games against each other.... yeah, i've never done that before.

but it was fun! granted, it took like 2-3 hours to set it up 5 computers due to technical difficulties and installing programs and such. we played "age of the empires" where you have to build a civilization. i had never played previously and my  iroquois indian tribe was attacked and killed off quite early on. but it was great fun! most of us stayed up all night and monday, i got very little rest until 9:45 pm.

but good times, good times indeed! ;)

name that song!...a curiosity of christian radio

"There's always going to be another mountain
I'm always gonna wanna make it move
Always going to be an uphill battle,
Sometimes I'm gonna have to lose,
Ain't about how fast I get there,
Ain't about what's waiting on the other side
It's the climb"

so, have you heard this song yet? i was half-listening to the radio one saturday night and the uniqueness of the singer's voice along with the song's great message pulled me in. i waiting when it finished for the dj to announce the title and the singer's identity but he didn't.

zooming ahead a week, while on the way to houston and stopping at sonic for breakfast, i heard it again! the "sonic radio" dj enthusiastically announced that the song was "the climb" by miley cyrus.

miley cyrus??? as in a.k.a. hannah montana??? no way!
now, don't get me wrong, i have nothing against the girl other than slight annoyance of seeing her face grinning at me everywhere from little girl's t-shirts to comforter sets at wal-mart.

but i find it interesting how that even though she professes christianity, christian radio won't say who is singing the song, i assume, because she isn't recognized as a "christian artist". i've heard the song played again and the only thing they'll say is that it's "the climb".

this isn't a new thing. i'm always amused during 4th of july when they play that soul-stirring version of "the star spangled banner" but never mention that it's being sung by (horrors! a canadian!) celine dion.

or during xmas when they throw in a mariah carey song and won't say who's singing BUT natalie grant sings a song off of the mariah album in practically the same way (it's almost like musical plagiarism!) and it's ok to say her name.

does it matter that they aren't "christian artists"? does it matter if they don't even profess christianity but the christian station plays their song because it's a good song? should it matter?

i don't know and that's why i'd love to hear what you think.

stuff

sooooo..... i discovered i can blog via email at work! yippee, i beat the system! still can't comment on other's blogs here (ack! and i really wish i could, how frustrating!) but maybe i'll discover that Secret Trap Door someday...over that rainbow...

i'm bored and hyper and have nothing particularly important to say. so i'll talk about the weather.

it's nasty foggy right now. and i was stupid enough to curl my hair :). humidity is the DEVIL. ah well! at least its not hot out there.

CONFESSION: i almost did a bad sinful thing yesterday. i'm Amazed that Ebay isn't blocked here (thankyouJesushallelujahknockonwood). yeah well, i've been looking for a pretty maxi dress to wear to an event and i resigned myself to getting THIS ONE which i like ok, but i'm not In Love with it enough to spend 60 bucks and get only 20% off.

early on in my quest (yes, quest) i spotted THIS but it's unavailable since it was part of last season's collection and HAHAHA! i can't afford diane von furstenberg anyways. well, i stumbled upon the same dress on Ebay! in my size!! but it wasn't to be. bidding started at $35 so i was hopeful but then it started climbing, hitting $70+.... and i was thinking, "weeelll, i could put it on my card" - BAD JEN!! but yeah, anyway the auction ended at $106. and i didn't give in. :)

so i'm gonna bite the bullet and sew a dress, which is frightening, lemme tell ya! i choose the Easiest patterns and it still takes me days. hilarious. i like the yellow-ness of THIS FABRIC since i can't have my beloved DVF dress. it looks like a tiger sort of....unleashing my inner tiger!
