DAY 11 - 17

Seriously, I'm really not that unthankful. I just can't get with this blogging everyday thing!
I don't know how that Mary Frances does it!!!

Anywho, things that I thought about being thankful for but didn't post:

* God's protection throughout my life. Something I totally take for granted until I hear about some of the things that others have gone through.

* New friendships

* Old friendships

* Sunday night, we had Snow! Thankful that it wasn't heavy! It was cool to drive home from church and watch fat snowflakes hit my windshield. Thankful to have a warm home to sleep in. A definite blessing.

* Baby shower on Saturday. Thankful for the miracle and anticipation of new life.

* This. sighhhh I love a good sunset lighting up the sky.

DAY 6, 7, 8 & 9

oops.

ok, here's some pin-spiration thanks for the first two:

DAY 6

I'm grateful for the gritty stuff in my life. It's all for my good.

DAY 7

There was a time that I thought I wrote my plans in pen but apparently it was one of those erasable pens (do they still make those?).... or perhaps God chunked the paper in the trash and I'm SOO thankful that He did!
So now I say, "Write you plans in pencil and give God the pen AND an eraser". ;)

DAY 8

Day 8 was a cool, gorgeous day. Considering all of the sin and disregard of Him in our world, He could have had us living in a bleak, ugly place. God gave us a Beautiful world to live in and enjoy. Truly "the Heavens declare...".

DAY 9

In the mail yesterday were a couple of letters from my insurance company that said that they were choosing not to cover the expenses of some of my physical therapy and my last doctor visit. Hmm. I felt some fear and anger and then the reassurance came soon after. I know My God is big enough to fix this! Sunday morning worship was sooo good. The second song was "How Great Is Our God" and then it segued into "How Great Thou Art". Such great reminders of His Greatness! Stay tuned.... I'm sure this'll pan out wonderfully!

DAY 5

They are new every morning
great is thy faithfulness
Lamentations 3:23

Sometimes when I'm driving to work in the morning, I think about the goodness of God who renews His mercies to us without fail every morning. We are a blessed people indeed!!

DAY 4

Rainy day here. Rain is great but I'm not a fan of driving in it. I don't have lunch with me so I've resigned myself to going out for lunch. THEN an email comes saying there is lasagna, grilled asparagus and tiramisu in the break room! Ahhhh, comfort food on a rainy day. Thankful!

the event just called for a silly selfie

Monday, November 3, 2014

DAY 3

Thankful for down comforters, fuzzy socks and Bath and Body Works Aromatherapy Eucalyptus Mint scent.

It's the little things....g'night...zzzzz

Sunday, November 2, 2014

DAY 2

I have two. One for Sunday morning and night:)

OKAY. I'm thankful that I got this revelation today and I don't know if I forgot or never knew this:

And Salmon begat Booz of Rachab; and Booz begat Obed of Ruth; and Obed begat Jesse; [Matthew 1:5]

Rachab = Rahab, like Rahab the prostitute. She was Booz = Boaz's mom! I was like, "Wow! So Cool!" So if I'm the last one to see that, whatever! I love how God shows that no matter the sins of the past, He has the power to turn people around. She went from living a shameful life to being named in the genealogy of Christ!

And thankful #2 - Thankful for a pastor that still preaches standards. Standards are pretty much non-existent in some places. I'm glad that God placed me where He did. Amen.

thirty days of thankful : DAY 1

"give thanks with a grateful heart...."

Let's do this!

I'm thankful for that whole crazy daylight savings time thing this weekend so that I gain an extra hour tonight. It's a nice treat for someone who has had a super busy week!!

what's new?

*Knee stuff - still hobbling along over here! But I'm hopeful that I won't be hobbling for much longer. Today, I did some Google research about natural ways to help a swollen knee out. Berries, apples, pineapples, CHOCOLATE, raw foods and other stuff. So I came home and made a berry pineapple green smoothie! I may *need* to purchase some dark chocolate. It's for my health!!!!

*Work - I've been dabbling in some recruiting at work and it's been interesting and waaaaayyy cool when you can call someone to offer them a job. So if you know anyone in the Dallas area in need of work, call me. ;)

*Ebola - speaking of the Dallas area.... Yeah! It's insane. The main hospital involved in all of this is a short drive from my house. I don't think that the mass hysteria is warranted. Ebola has been around for a while and as we know it, less than 10 people in the US have contracted it. 10 out of a country with Millions of people. That said, I do believe that the CDC is minimizing how easily the virus can be spread from person to person.

*Autumn - This is a beautiful time of year to visit the city though! Just bring your hazmat suit. KIDDING!
Seriously, autumn is my favorite. The Fair just ended and where else could you see ostriches racing on an indoor track with jockeys riding them?!

Picture proof

This was by far the creepiest, most fascinating thing that I've seen in a while. I do Not like ostriches. They are Scary. But this was the only live animal show that I wanted to see at the fair. It did not disappoint.

* Wedding (and a beach!) - I went to Alabama to attend a friend's wedding. First stop though was a beach! Well, actually Cracker Barrel. Then a beach! Florida's panhandle runs right along the Alabama  border. So naturally we had to visit Destin. Naturally.

(my phone's current wallpaper)

The water - clear, blue PERFECTION
The sand - soft, powdery PERFECTION

that's it! i'm MOVING!!!

It was awesome. I felt like a kid at the beach. Didn't bring a bucket and shovel though. We saw a school of fish swim between Mich and myself. Tons of little fish! So weird and cool! Not as weird as the ostriches though. And a sea turtle swam past us! And we thought we saw dolphins out in the distance! But they weren't dolphins. :( But Still! Such a fun day!

The next day was the wedding. SO much work went into it and it was beautiful!

Her sis-in-law made the cake. She did an Amazing job!

Hilarious how the happy couple are both on their phones!

Melissa and I

My Menzies'. They're giving me the "what in the world do you think you're doing?" look. Love 'em!

Yayyy and congrats to the Nimocks! I got my wedding fix. Surely I can't be the only one out there who needs a good wedding every once in while (but not too often!) to laugh and cry at! I'm good for another year or so. ;)

crutch.

Yup, crutch. This has been my reality for the past 3 weeks!

I had a knee surgery exactly 3 weeks ago (haha, during this time of day too) to clean up some debris around the kneecap. If you saw me limping around PATH, that debris was the cause.

I almost called off the whole thing beforehand because I was scared about the costs! Thankfully (oh ye of little faith) so far, the costs have been fairly manageable, largely because God sent a check that I wasn't expecting in the mail. Praise Him.

My second fear was the whole idea of being under anesthesia. Never had a surgical procedure done before. Thank God for the steady, practical nurse who helped me get ready. She summed it up perfectly: people tend to fear a loss of control. That'll preach, right?! So since I'm currently typing this blog post, obviously I didn't die on the operating table. I remember being wheeled into the room and being asked to scoot over to another bed and I laughed while scooting because Whoa, that anesthesia stuff is working already!! annnnnd I was out like a lightbulb after that. The whole thing took about 30 minutes.

Third fear was of the pain. I had a prescription for one of those strong pain pills that people could end up addicted to. So thankful that I didn't need them for very long. The pain was very minimal and the pills were so strong, they made me sick! The doc cleared me to take over the counter meds as needed just 2 days after the surgery.

So that brings me to now: physical therapy and a crutch. It was 2 crutches at first but my amazing PT, Wendy, felt that I was okay to use just one. A week after surgery, I was feeling confident and somewhat more steady so I went a few days of not using it as much. I mean, I walked like a zombie but hey, I was getting better, right? BAD MOVE. I paid for that mistake! AND back to 2 crutches for you, Jen. And now I'm back down to 1.

This experience is an interesting one. It's gratitude and frustration and patience and annoyance and I could go on....

I can't move around as quickly as I want.... getting ready to go out takes forever. The swelling isn't going down quickly enough. I hate how the crutch draws attention to you. I can't power walk (a.k.a my normal speed of walking). Physical therapy is good but sometimes uncomfortable when doing crazy leg treatments in a public space. People are constantly asking your progress when sometimes you don't know of any. Constantly answering the question, "What happened to you?".
Arggggghggghghhhgg.

I had one of those "I wanted new shoes complained about my shoes and then I saw a man with no feet" moments. I was driving to lunch last week and whining in my head about my annoyances. And then I started to listen to the radio. It was Dr. Dobson's Family Talk show and the lady on there had cancer that was spreading all over her body. Her story was so sad yet inspirational. So then it was like, "Okay God. I get it." There are soooo many more people in worse circumstances than me. I'll get through it eventually.

In conclusion, I'll post this pic of my desperate trip to Target on the Saturday after surgery. I needed thank you cards and other stuff and it felt an amazing 58 degrees outside and I wanted to be out in it so I got chaffuered to Target and dropped the crutches in the cart and made the cart my personal walker. talk about a run-on sentence.

Plans

I saw this yesterday and I had to smile. This is SOOOO me and my life!!

But let us step back and appreciate how much more exciting [in either fun or frightening ways] the Reality is. You can glean so much more knowledge and wisdom when you take the route that's not as easy. And though there are so many stages in the obstacle course of reality, there's still a finish flag at the end. :)

PATH Conference... Madera, CA

Bonjour!

I've known about PATH from the very beginning but I had never gone. Sometime last year, I decided that I would try to go. So I went! And I'm so glad that I did.

From the first night's pre-service prayer, I could tell there was something special there. You could already feel the anointing flowing. And the services and preaching did not disappoint. God was definitely there!

I'm thankful for Bro. Garza's burden to "promote an unfettered pulpit in the last days", as the flyer states.

I'm also thankful for Bro. Hood, Bro. Lackey, Bro. White, Bro. Davis, Bro. Bullock and Bro. Wheeler obeying and preaching what God laid on their hearts. I'm the better for it!!

Well, you can always count on me to not take a ton of pictures at a conference. So here's the faithful few....

Love big group pics!

Carisa and I! Hopefully we will have Dallas adventures soon [and later, Bay Area adventures!!].

A few more joined our "sit outside and watch the youngsters play" crew! ;)

*Shout Out [LOL] to readers of this here blog who came and said hi! I'm ALWAYS caught offguard when people know me via the internets! It's so neat to know that you're out there reading my infrequently updated writings. I hope I'm not too socially awkward when you introduce yourself, hahahaha!

No, really.

This concludes my post about PATH annnnnnd my traveling for a while. Maybe till October.

Being at PATH gave me some things to think and blog about soon! Yay for inspiration! ;)

washington oregon new york

Ok so, this has been the
BEST Birthday Month* EVER!

*because why limit your celebration to just one day?

Why? Because of travel!

Mid-July, I spent a week with my brother and his family at their home in Washington state but since it's so near to the Oregon border, it's like vacationing in two states! :)

my silhouette with that impressive background of the Columbia river. doesn't it look fake?! even in person, it looks unreal. wowzers.

here's another one. GORGEOUS.
selfie attempt at Cannon Beach in Oregon

photobombed!

my brother and I

Cannon Beach is so pretty. We waded in the COLD water for a bit and later on, sat on the sand and watched all the people and kites and attempts to build a sand castle [while plotting how to sabotage the progress lolol]. It was a lovely day.

I kinda Had to get a crepe. The shop was too cute.

Powdered crepe folded with Nutella and strawberries. om nom nom.

Church on Sunday!!!! Soooo good to be in service and to have lunch with Cynthia and Jedidah!

group pic (minus j)

my feeble attempt at capturing the Portland sign while driving by

then couple weeks later, NYC for a few days to help my aunt transition from there to here. it was mainly work and seeing sooo much family. we did go to Times Square the first night though since my cousin needed an H&M and that was the only one open past 10 pm lol

taken on the last day in my cab to the airport. morning in harlem.

and this one was taken when my plane was landing in NY. love it!

just wanna tell You, i'm thankful for all You have done...

I just celebrated another birthday last week (yayyy! go me!)

And I don't know if it's a symptom of getting older but wow, talk about feeling so so so thankful.
And not just for the gifts.

Now don't me wrong.... I love pretty clothes and gifts cards and flowers. LOVE those things.

But I was just so blown away about how BLESSED I already am.
I love stuff (often, more than I should) but I love people more than stuff.

I am blessed to have wonderful family and friends.

Friends who make me feel somewhat sane in the midst of chaos! What a gift!

3 of my nearest and dearest shared a "feast" last night of nachos, rice, beans, sopapillas, etc. and we talked and talked. And I needed that. And it's great to have amazing friends. :) BLESSED.

And of course, BLESSED that God would look down and see something in me worth saving. So unworthy yet so BLESSED.

just thankful, that's all.

may days! may days! (and a lil june too)

*hurrying to post about May before June is over.... yikes*

Ah, May. It was a fun month.

So waaaaaaaaaaaay back in February, my sister conspired a plan to come here to surprise both of my parents, but mainly my mother, in time for Mother's Day. So she bought the ticket and thus began the long period of me keeping a secret! It was pretty successful! I told a few friends the week of and the week before her arrival. Basically, I just put it out of my mind until the day came closer.

That Saturday, my parents left for outreach and I cleaned the house like a madwoman. It was intense. I paid for it later in the form of aching muscles. Then Saturday night, I picked up from the airport and my mother was rendered speechless. It was fun. :)

after church on Sunday
Then a couple days later, we drove 4 hours south to Houston to visit family. And from there, drove 1 hour south to Galveston, a.k.a. the coastline a.k.a the nearest beach to me. I've never been! And let's be honest, it's no comparison to the Caribbean or Miami or LA or Daytona. But there was a nice little beach vibe and the saltiness was present in the air!

We got there late at night and left the next afternoon but still took a few pics. It was a cloudy, cool breezy day.

my sister. oh and Toby too.
me and the dawg

The sun decided to pop out as we were leaving.

a little bit of the Pleasure Pier... pics while driving.... bad, bad

On the way to and coming from Houston, a popular picture spot is by the Sam Houston statue located not too far from a state penitentiary.... yeah. Anywho, we made a pit stop!

Zooming to this past weekend.... Toby got convicted and decided to get a good haircut.

before
after! Praise the Lord! Alaba El Señor!

AND last but not least, we had Elder Tom Johnson from Colorado Springs, CO with us in church this weekend. There is nothing like having a good elder preach and teach. I Love It! Didn't want him to leave. Remember when God makes a promise to you, you can bank on it! Elder Johnson reminded me this last weekend in his first message and I am grateful for that.
He had way too much fun playing guitar with the guys.

Tuesday, April 15, 2014

so, what's new?

I feel like I haven't posted in FOREVER.

And if a month is FOREVER, then I'm correct.

Ok, so here's what's been going on....

* WOOD FLOORS!! This is my room before the big furniture went back in. The house came with hideous pink carpet that I've always kinda hated. I love pink! More so, medium pink to fuchsia. This stuff was baby pink. Anywho, I've always dreamed of us pulling up the carpet to expose the wood floors.

So you see kids, dreams do come true.

* I got sick. I was sick for about two weeks with breathing/coughing issues. And to top it off, I experienced so many side effects from the different prescriptions. Ahhh, modern medicine. Praise the Lord anyway.

* F12 fell off. *sigh*

* Blue Bell brought back a seasonal flavor that I love.

* My aunt is moving here from NY. Yay! So that gives me a good reason to go to the City this year. Yay! And we're house shopping for her and she's totally fine with her niece specifically looking for a house with a pool. YAY! This summer just might be something to look forward to. Now we just have to find the right house. ARG.

* I won at Monopoly. I never win at Monopoly. Check out my hotels! My block was pretty great.

* I scored a lovely $6 wool jacket at Goodwill. I thought it was vintage. Turns out it's an Anthropologie brand so it definitely retailed for more than 6 bucks. And I conveniently found it right before we had a rainy, chilly Sunday. Who knows if I'll see another one of those before October?

* Today was my 1 year anniversary at my job. Still so blessed to be there.

What's new with you?
