you are NOT singing it right!

This morning the girls had a quarrel.  It went something like this:

Kara: (singing) "Strawb-b-b-b-berry, Strawb-b-b-b-berry Shortcake"
Sophie:  "No sis!  It's Straw---berry Short----cake" (holding out the words where the dashes are)
Kara: (completely ignoring Sophie) "Strawb-b-b-b-berry, Strawb-b-b-b-berry Shortcake"
Sophie: (starting to get really angry) "NO!  It's Straw----berry Short---cake"
Kara: (again, ignoring Sophie) "Strawb-b-b-berry, Strawb-b-b-berry Shortcake"
Sophie: (totally irate) "SIS!  DON'T SING IT LIKE THAT!!!!  IT'S Straw---berry Short---cake"

At this point I am rolling on the floor laughing so hard I'm crying.  I finally had to break it up before they started throwing punches!  By the way, they were both singing it right, but Sophie had to have it her way!  Hilarity!

just a little behind...

The girls and I left for Texas December 14th and I seem to have taken a voluntary leave from all things media.  I haven't checked my email or even surfed the web since probably the beginning of December.  I'm just starting to get the desire to hop on the computer and see what has happened in everybody's lives since the last time I was on.  Evens flew down to Texas the 22nd and spent 10 days with us (I know!!!! Evens and I FINALLY took a vacation together!!!!!!!). I guess I will start to play catch-up.   Here are some Christmas pictures.

Kara as Mary for our traditional Christmas Eve program

Sophie had to be Mary too.  Like her baby Jesus?

Uncle Tyler as the donkey (and later he'll be a shepherd)

Kara's letter to Santa

Christmas morning came dark and early at Grandma & Grandpa's.  We all kind of figured that we'd get to sleep in since the past 4 Christmases with children have proven incredibly uneventful.  Last year we didn't even get around to opening presents until late Christmas night.  (We ended up waking the girls up at 10 so we could make it to breakfast at my grandparents.  They looked at the tree with the presents overflowing from under it and apparently couldn't have cared less.  So we had to basically force them to open their presents after we got home that night!)  That has usually been how Christmas has gone in our house.  But no... this year Kara woke me up at 5 am and yelled "Mom!  Santa came!!!"  I made her get in bed with me (Evens was sleeping downstairs on the couch because apparently I snore) and hoped she would go back to sleep.  At 5:30 am Sophie woke up.  She and Kara played in my bed until 6:30 am when I finally gave up and told Kara to go wake up Grandma & Grandpa.  So at 6:35 am we were all downstairs opening presents!  The girls ended up taking a nap at 8:30 and then we left for church at 11:30.  After church we went over to the Lowes house for their annual Christmas brunch.  We stuffed ourselves silly with delicious things like crepes, baked french toast, potato casserole, sausage, bacon, and other yummy stuff.  It was so good!

Kara got some make-up and decided to put some on Sophie.  Unfortunately she put the lipstick on her eyes.  It wasn't easy getting it off.

Surprise!

A few months ago my sisters-in-law and I decided that since we would all be together for Christmas this year we should have a surprise party for our parents.  They both turned 50 around Christmas and we thought it would be a lot of fun.  And it was!  Of course we had to have the party at their favorite BBQ joint.  Here are some pictures of the fun:

This is the book that we worked on for months!  It turned out beautifully and as you can tell from my dad's face he thought it was pretty fun.

Get a room?

having fun

The girls were able to have some fun too.  Since the weather was generally absolutely gorgeous (it did get down to the 50s and rained, but mostly it was in the 60s and 70s) we took advantage and took the girls to play.

We also took them to an amusement park specifically for children 12 and under.  It was seriously the coolest thing the girls have ever been able to do!  They got to ride every single ride and had a blast.  Unfortunately the pictures are all on my camcorder so I'll have to get those off and post them.
