One week before school started, we were over at Grandma's house picking crab apples in the tree. I was way up on ladders inside the tree while the kids were playing on the green belt behind the house. Cody was long boarding along the path with his uncle. He wiped out and came screaming back to the house.
He was on his hands and knees pushing the board with one foot. The board hit something (a crack or rock..I'm not sure) and the board stopped while Cody kept going. His hands were on the board already so he couldn't use his hands to brace himself. He did have a helmet on thank goodness but that didn't save his face! He also scraped up his elbow and had a little cut on his hand but nothing compared to his face.
Only one side of his face was affected. He called himself two-face because if you were looking at the right side of his face you would have never known his face was scrapped up.
My first thought when I saw his face was..."Nice! Perfect for school pictures!"
His lip was swollen and he knocked a tooth loose (which thankfully was the next one to come out anyways).
This was day 2...(poor quality phone pictures).
I learned a lesson with this. I always thought the best thing for scrapes was to let the scab dry out and fall off. NOPE!! Polysporin is the key! I work for a dermatologist so I emailed him a picture and asked him what's the best thing to do so it doesn't scar. He said Polysporin and don't let it dry out. So we put Polysporin to the test on his face, and didn't put it on his shoulder or hand. Within one week, the scabs on his face were completely gone. His shoulder had a big thick scab (and the wound on the shoulder was not as bad as his face because he had a shirt on). His hand is still healing 3.5 weeks later. It looked disgusting and pussy with polysporin on it, but it healed super fast!
It always breaks my heart when my kids get hurt. Thankfully we have not had too many mishaps...no broken bones or stitches (knock on wood).
