5 months and 1 week old

Here are some new pictures of Zoe. She loves playing with her keys and grabbing her toes.
Zoe rolled over from her back to her tummy yesterday when she was with Mimi and Mimi's friend Mary. She rolled over for me when I got home. Calvin hasn't seen her roll over yet. Zoe doesn't like to be on her tummy for too long so I was really worried about how bedtime was going to be. At bedtime, Zoe kept rolling over onto her tummy and would get really upset. I had to roll her over twice and reassure her. The third time, she couldn't stand it any longer so I picked her up and started the bedtime process all over again to calm her down. She rolled onto her tummy again but this time she stayed there and fell asleep. She slept the whole night and did not fuss at all at night even though she woke up several times in the middle of the night to look around. I think she will enjoy sleeping on her tummy from now on.

Pink Eye Patches?

Zoe went to see an opthamologist yesterday for her left eye. That's the eye that had a clogged tear duct and was infected for a while when she was a few weeks old. Anyway, that eye just never opened up like her right eye so I decided she needed a specialist to look at it. We had to wait almost a month just to be seen. There are a lot of kids with eye problems or this is just a really popular place. The opthamologist said it is a droopy eyelid or ptosis. She isn't sure what caused it for sure but she suggested I take Zoe to have her vision checked at a Retina Foundation where they are better able to test infants. We were at the opthamologists' office for 4 hours because they were so busy only to find out we need to go somewhere else. Zoe was actually really good in the waiting room but anyone who knows Zoe can imagine how angry she was when the opthamologist flipped her eyelid over and when the tech put drops in her eyes for dilation. I think the whole office and waiting room heard Zoe scream and cry. The opthamologist did give me some patches to put on Zoe's eyes so she can get used to them before her exam at the Retina Foundation. Poor Zoe has to wear a patch for about 30 minutes to an hour a day starting the week before her appointment. I have to alternate eyes so she gets used to the feel of them. If she ends up needing eye patches later on, I think I will seriously have to find pretty eye patches online or just have to make some myself. Calvin is still working at the hospital and it is 10pm! The house is very quiet since Zoe, Hans and Lucy are all sound asleep. I need to go to bed since I have an orthodontist appointment in the morning. Yes, I may need braces. Yuck! I am seeing the orthodontist tomorrow for a second opinion. Maybe I won't need them!!!!

Growing Up So Fast

Zoe is growing up so fast. She is too tall for most of her clothes and she is soon to outgrow her 6 month clothes. This is one of the outfits I bought her when we were at the mall. She's now wearing 6-12 month clothes. What a big girl! I can't believe she is 5 months old already.

White Tights

I finally got Zoe some more white tights that fit her. It's hard to keep up with her wardrobe when she is getting so big.

Trip to the Mall

We went to the mall when my sister Ellen was visiting. Zoe loves shopping and looking around at the mall. She got kind of fussy being in her car seat so we took turns holding her. She was wearing her pretty dress when we went to the mall but she got so hot in it. Luckily, I had a change of clothes in my bag so she managed to enjoy her time at the mall. She just loves looking around at all the pretty things in the mall. She was pooped by the time we went to Gap Kids. She just held on to her monkey and fell asleep.

Lounging Around In My Room

Zoe is dressed for the day and ready to run errands. Calvin will be home soon so that we can take Hans to the vet. Hans has a benign tumor on his nose so we are taking him to see the veterinary surgical clinic for a consultation.
We got some more furniture for Zoe's room. Zoe has so much of everything and had nowhere to put them all. I think Zoe likes hanging out in her room. Mimi got Zoe a CD called
'Zoey girl' so I played it for her and we were dancing around in her room. I think I had more fun than Zoe. I sing/hum to Zoe before I put her down for naps and bed. I think Zoe is trying to sing along with me. She makes a lot of noises when I am singing to her. Calvin doesn't think I have a very good voice so maybe Zoe is telling me to quit singing so she can go to sleep!!
That's the smaller ivory nightstand we got for Zoe.

Hans' Consultation

We took Hans to the Veterinary Surgical Clinic for a consultation on the mass on his nose. Hans' vet at Pet Smart said it was a benign tumor. Calvin wanted Hans to be seen by a specialist about getting it removed. In order for the mass to be removed, it would cost around $800 to $1000. The good news is that 9 out of 10 times the tumor regresses. We decided to wait to see if it regresses. It looks like it is regressing so good boy Hans saved us a lot of money. Hans was so nervous at the clinic. He was howling and whining whenever Calvin or I was out of his sight. Zoe was being good as usual. She was looking at the fish in the big fish tank most of the time until it was her nap time.

DJ Turner's #1 Fan

If you don't know who DJ Turner is, that is Calvin. Calvin makes CD's and gives them out to people. He has quite a fan base now but Zoe is still his number one fan.

Dress Day

Zoe is growing so fast that I had to put these outfits on her before she outgrows them.
Look how chubby her forearm is!
Classic Zoe. Everything has to go in her mouth.
I put her in this dress first but it was a warm day so Zoe got really fussy because she was hot.
See how she spreads out her toes? Zoe is always stretching out her long toes like that. MiMi said the long toes are from her side of the family. I call them finger toes. She has a big gap between her big toe and 2nd toe just like daddy too.
I like taking pictures of her on the sofa. It seems to be a good backdrop for most pictures.

Play Time

Zoe likes to sit up and watch her mobile go by. She has been really enjoying her mobile lately.
She's not sitting in the corner because she is in trouble!
Zoe loves jumping on her jumper. She gets really excited and bops around. Look how chubby her face looks here. Don't you just want to squish her cheeks?

Daddy's favorite color

Zoe is dressed in all purple today. She even has a purple pin in her hair. Calvin loves to see Zoe in purple so I try to dress her up in purple just for Calvin. Zoe still loves her bouncer chair which is great because it frees me up to get things done in the kitchen. She still loves her Lily frog doll.

Silly Girl

I have no idea why Zoe thinks having a toy on her face is so amusing. Maybe it is something developmental? Maybe she is just quirky! I think she must like the reaction I give her. It's kind of like our dog Hans putting a rope over his nose for attention. We thought it was funny when he did it accidentally so we would laugh and praise him when he did it. Since then, he always tries to fling the rope over his nose to get a reaction out of us. Zoe is just like her dog brother Hans!!

Prevacid is the best!

Wow! Zoe's medicine is already working. She was able to drink her bottle without too much trouble. She still squirms a bit but nothing like before. No more screaming or crying when she takes her bottle. By 10 am this morning, she drank what took her until 4 pm yesterday. She is so much easier today. She's had much more time to play since she isn't having to finish off her bottle all day long! She is definitely in a better mood today. She was having the best time playing. She put a little doll on her face and just laid there with the doll on her face. She just started to giggle when I looked at her. I gave her a toy stethoscope and she played with it then laid it on her face again and started to laugh when I laughed. It was really funny but then again, I think everything she does is cute and funny.

Poor Baby

I took Zoe to her Dr. today because I felt like her reflux was getting worse. Well, I guess I should say that her Zantac just wasn't working anymore. This morning she was screaming after taking a few sips from her bottle. I have never seen her act that way and so I got really scared. She was hungry but she just couldn't drink it because it was hurting her. It was such a horrible thing to see. She hadn't eaten in 12 hours so I knew she had to be hungry. Once her morning dose of zantac kicked in she was able to drink better but it was still such a struggle. I knew something was wrong because lately I have been spending my whole day offering her a bottle. I realized that I was doing small frequent meals for her reflux to the extreme. Her Dr. prescribed Prevacid today and he said it should work in a few days. When I told Zoe's pediatrician how she was behaving during feedings, he said she is starting to have food aversion. The good news is that she has gained almost a pound since her last visit. I guess offering her the bottle all the time helped her. The Dr. said I should not have to work so hard to feed a baby. I agree!! Once her reflux is under control again she should be a very happy baby. She can sleep well and now she will be able to eat well in a few days. Zoe is taking her nap right now. Her earlier nap was cut really short because she was at the Dr's office. She was so tired but it made her hyper and she was acting really funny. She was shrieking, giddy, and smiling. She was acting delirious. I wanted to keep her up because she was so entertaining but I put her down for a nap. She fell asleep quickly. I think she will nap for about 2 hours.

Sippy Cup

She did it!!! She actually took a few sips from her sippy cup today.
I introduced the sippy cup once last week and she didn't like it. She just started to cry so I waited until today to try it again.
She was having fun with it today. She kept cooing with the sippy cup in her mouth.
Zoe's good at holding her cup but getting a few sips out of it is something she will have to work on.

Playtime

Here's Zoe playing with one of Calvin's toys. Apparently, Calvin played with dolls!! :-0
Zoe playing with Daddy's rattle.
Hans put his rope on Zoe's legs. Hans always brings her his toys when she is playing.
Here is Hans when he was trying to give Zoe his rope. He is such a good dog. He shares his toys!!
Hans is always nearby especially when it is tummy time. He just loves to be right there next to Zoe. He always gets his toy and plays with it and then tries to give it to Zoe. Zoe loves to look at him and smiles at him. Hans still loves to lick Zoe so I have to make sure I protect Zoe from getting a Hansie bath. If Calvin is watching Zoe, poor baby will get her whole face licked by Hans. SICK!!
Tummy time for Zoe and Hans.
