Eleanor Turns 6!

Eleanor turned 6 on Sunday! I still can't quite believe it. We moved to Shelby, when I was a few months pregnant with Eleanor. How can she be 6?

She had a wonderful birthday which started with birthday pancakes.
Cuddling on the couch before church.
 Presents!
She loved the sketchbook Aaron gave her.
Sullivan, in anticipation of the gift he picked out.
The gift Sullivan picked out! We were in Walmart and Sullivan played with this cat for 20 minutes and was just giggling. He was laughing so hard that everyone who walked by started laughing also. This cat makes all different noises but the funny thing is that it spins its head around in a circle and bounces. It was attached firmly inside the package and would still bounce itself right off of the shelf. So, we had to get it and Eleanor loves it!
This little girl loves clothes! And when I saw this in the store, I just had to buy it for her. It is so Eleanor.
 Her cat.
This outfit came with a matching outfit for her doll.
I used the bow off of Penelope's baptism cake, per Eleanor's request.

Eleanor got a package in the mail, full of makeup, from her Aunt Penny. When Penny was here for Penelope's baptism they had a "makeup party," and obviously, Penny thought Eleanor could use some of her very own.

We love this girl!

8 is Great!

Penelope is 8!

Penelope requested pie this year instead of cake.

She was very happy to receive a sewing kit for her birthday this year.
She received this dress, with a matching dress for her doll, and these cute boots.
She was baptized on October 25. This is a picture with my sister, Penny, who Penelope is named after. Penny bought her this beautiful baptism dress and the necklace that Penelope is wearing.

We had a dinner for everyone that attended the baptism. Penelope requested a nacho bar, which was a huge hit. And this was her cake.
Our wonderful family members that were able to come to her baptism. Grandma Cox gave a fabulous talk about when she was baptized, Janet gave a talk on the Holy Ghost, Penelope sang "When I am Baptized," Morgan Casey gave the opening prayer, Grandpa Cox gave the closing prayer and Andrew, Alex and Nicholas Houston played the piano during the time that Aaron and Penelope were changing out of their wet clothes. It was all great.
Somehow Morgan escaped the family picture, so here he is with Penelope.

Parade of Homes

We were asked to do the Parade of Homes on October 5th, so we have been busy with some remodeling projects around the house. We couldn't get everything done that we wanted to before our deadline but we did do a lot.

This is our master bedroom. We weren't going to do any renovations in here but we saw the lights at home depot and decided we should replace the outdated ones above our bed. Once we got the lights up, I told Aaron about my idea for a headboard, so Aaron built the headboard out of some 1 x 12 cedar boards that the previous owners left. But I wanted to paint the bedroom before he attached the headboard to the wall, so I painted.

And then we decided to replace the lighting in our master bathroom and because we had to patch the wall, I decided to paint in there also.
I painted Griffin's room before he was born, but we added a few fun details, like the rope ball and the hooks. . .
And the branch with the birds. My friend, Colleen Bridge, made these birds for me. They took her hours and hours, and they are one of my favorite things in the whole house.

These shelves came from a table top that Jeff DeVries left us when he and his family moved from Shelby.

This is Sullivan's room. It is a terrible picture. That wall is black. I asked Sullivan what color he wanted his room and he told me black, so black it is.
Aaron made this headboard also, from a bit of tin that the previous owners also left.
The toy room/exercise room. I used some left over paint that I had on hand and just altered it to make it the colors I wanted.
We had a random pole in this room that is a support beam, so it was my inspiration for this room. My friend, Ariel Weishaar, painted the tree for me. I love it!
In our old house, we had raised garden beds and we decided not to do that at this house, so we had a bunch of 2 x 12's that were just lying around. Well, we have put them to good use. This was an old kitchen table that Jeff DeVries gave us as well. We cut the legs off, spay painted it black and then added some of the 2 x 12's to the top, sanded, stained and waxed them. You can't see the detail here but it is so gorgeous!
We used the same wood for these shelves in the living room,
the shelf in our coat closet, (we took the door off and added baskets and hooks)
the bench in our entryway off of the garage,

and the shelf below our world map in our stairway.

Aaron used some other old boards to make these pool ball holders in our basement.

We also replaced the lighting in our front room.

Added some decorations in the movie room.

These are some chairs I recovered awhile back.
We also landscaped our front yard. We drew out the plans and Morgan did almost all of the labor. This isn't a great picture but you get the idea.

I really like to repurpose old things, so here are some bicycle baskets that I bought off of a garage sale site that the girls use to keep homework and library books in.

It never felt quite right to have these beautiful, painted cabinets and the ugly, yellow, countertops that were in such bad shape, so. . .

Aaron painted them! Can you believe the difference?

We had 91+ people come through our house for the Parade of Homes. I'm glad we could help raise money for the hospital but I am also very happy that it is over. Now; time to enjoy our home!
