Betrothed

For the last few months Lorelei's preschool group has been pairing off. While teaching one week I overheard this conversation:

Julie:"Wyatt and I are going to get married."
Wyatt: "Yep."
Dylan:"I am going to marry Brooklyn."
Lorelei: "Bradley, would you marry me?"
Bradley: "Nope, I am going to marry Claire (his older sister)."
Lorelei: "Then I have NO ONE to marry."

There are only five kids in their preschool group, Brooklyn was in with them last year and not many other kids around their age so Lorelei was devastated by this conversation. She would bring it up all the time and cry real tears that she didn't have anyone to marry. It broke her little heart not to be engaged like the rest of her friends. She even enlisted Jacob and Greg to help her find a mate. They both agreed to help, but apparently they aren't moving on it fast enough for her. She seems to think that if she hasn't gotten this taken care of before she turns five, there is no hope. One day while on their way home from a field trip, Lorelei tells Bradley that he can't marry Claire and that he has to marry her instead. Bradley says, "Just go up to someone on the street and ask them if they'll marry you." Lorelei indignantly responded, "That would be a stranger!" But apparently they've worked out their differences, for the other day while playing at the park, she asked him again and her persistence paid off. Bradley agreed to marry her, and they even held hands while they slid down the side by side slides. The following picture was taken today at their Moving On celebration, Bradley is the little boy second from the left. Isn't adolescence going to be fun?

Lost Things

Do you ever feel like a burgular came into your house and stole small items? They figured they would rob you of your sanity (I don't have much left anyway, certainly not enough for people to steal) instead of your TV. For instance, sometime in the last week someone must have broken in and stolen our orange peeler. It was here one day and gone the next, just gone. We've also lost Jacob's toy Eve from Wall-E, I have no idea where that went to. We have recovered a few lost items. But the orange peeler is driving me crazy. Where could it be? I really liked that orange peeler. Oh and a last winter Greg lost his winter gloves. They were in the laundry in the appropriate bin, and the next day completely gone, we searched everywhere. We finally gave up and bought him a new pair. What will disappear next I wonder?

I am one lucky girl!

Greg and I have been married for 10 years today! I can honestly say that I love Greg more today than I did 10 years ago and that's saying a lot because I was crazy in love back then. We have been through so many changes together and I think that's the only way I've been able to deal with the changes is because I had him with me. He is simply the best man I have ever met and he is perfect for me. Happy Anniversary Greg!
P.S. I wanted to put some pictures of our wedding day on here but we got married so long ago we were still using film back then and I don't have any scanned on my computer...bummer. That's a project for another day!

Family Pictures

So we had Annabelle blessed in Ririe last weekend and I thought it would be nice to get a family snapshot, my kids had other ideas. The sad thing is that these pictures pretty much sum up our life right now, which makes them even funnier. It's a good thing I didn't have to pay a photographer.

And one nice one of Greg and Annabelle

Korker Bows

Madalyn, oh so cute!

I told my sister I would put directions on how to make korker bows here, so here they are. I love these bows, not because they are quick to make, but they are very easy and require no tying, which is great for beginner bow makers. They work great when you're trying to match a multicolored outfit.

So first gather your supplies. You'll need a 1/4"-5/16" dowel, short enough to fit into your oven. You may want a few of these so you can bake a lot of them at a time. You'll need two clothespins for each dowel. Ribbon, 3/8" ribbon is the easiest to work with, but you can do smaller, I've never done bigger, I would imagine the curls wouldn't stay very well. The more colors and patterns, the cuter the bow, just my opinion. Scissors, dental floss or elastic thread, hot glue, and an alligator cip or french barrette.

Second, clip one end of your ribbon to the dowel with the clothespin and wrap your ribbon around your dowels, keeping it tight and fairly evenly spaced, clip the end of ribbon with other clothespin. Place on a foil lined cookie sheet and bake in your oven at 275 degrees for about 15 minutes, you might want to do it longer if it doesn't seem curly enough. Let cool for 5 minutes before removing from dowel.

Third cut all of your korkers to desired length. The longer the korkers the bigger the bow, so just keep that in mind. The ones I did for Maddie's bow pictured above were about 3-4 inches, the one I am making in the pictures were probably 2 1/2" since it was for Annabelle. It's up to you. And the more korkers you have the fuller the bow. Also don't forget to either use fraycheck on the ends of your ribbon or heat seal the ends by running the ends through a lighter very quickly. I only did two layers of korkers but you can do more than that.

Fourth, lay all out a length of dental floss and place your korkers on top of it. Arrange them so that they are layered, but laying the same direction. Don't forget to mix up your colors a bit. Then tie a knot with the dental floss. Your bow should look something like the bottom picture. Trim the ends of the floss.

Next, line an alligator clip with ribbon (starting at the bottom by the place you pinch, and going around the outide and down the top of the clip, and then to the inside of the clip, so everything but the bottom of the clip is covered.) and use hot glue to secure your bow.

And yes, I know this bow does not match what Annabelle is wearing, but I was making it for another outfit. Still so cute.
