5 minutes de répis pour la planète / 5 minutes of electrical rest for the planet

Ma soeur à New York m'a envoyé ce message aujourd'hui.

My sister who lives in New York City sent me an email today explaining that this message has come to us through the global village sharing channels. It originates from a French environmental organization called L'Alliance Pour La Planète.

February 1, 2007:

Participate in the biggest mobilization of Citizens Against Global
Warming
!
The Alliance for the Planet [a group of environmental
associations] is calling on all citizens to create 5 minutes of
electrical rest for the planet. People all over the world should turn
off their lights and electrical appliances on the first of February
2007, between 1.55 pm and 2.00 pm in New York, 18.55 for London, and
19.55 for Paris, Bruxelles, and Italy. 1.55 pm in Ottawa, 10.55 am on
the Pacific Coast of North America. This is not just about saving 5
minutes worth of electricity; this is about getting the attention of
the media, politicians, and ourselves. Five minutes of electrical
down time for the planet: this does not take long, and costs nothing,
and will show all political leaders that global warming is an issue
that needs to come first and foremost in political debate. Why
February 1? This is the day when the new UN report on global climate
change will come out in Paris. This event affects us all, involves us
all, and provides an occasion to show how important an issue global
warming is to us. If we all participate, this action can have real
media and political weight. Please circulate this call to your utmost
ability to your network.

News of my Buddy Roy! Nouvelles de mon copain Roy!

This morning I finally got some news from my Buddy and Dive Instructor Roy. Roy tought me how to Scuba Dive in the Seychelles. He held my hand on my 1st OWD course (Josue did the same on my Discover Scuba Dive one) and he (and Josh) encouraged me throughout my training all the way to my Open Water Scuba Instructor.
Man I missed you Roy! I am glad all is well with you and that you finally found happiness!
Remember my friend don't let anyone give you graine and NEVER SAY NEVER!!! Oh and never judge a book by its cover! (he he he!)
;-)
I will post some pictures from the God 'ol days soon!
P.S. Yes we want to come back and visit your beautiful country! Gosh I miss it...the sunshine, the beaches, the beautiful water, the nice people, the kids playing on the beach, fishing octopus and lobster...Coconut cary Zourit, Bourzoi, See Brew!

Sunday Link Sharing (SLS)

This week I'd like to share the following:

Photobox. I upload my pictures onto their website and I either have them print them for me or make cool stuff such a handbag with a picture of my cuties or mugs or even a photo album. They are GREAT, very professional, very efficient. I love the colours they use to print the pictures; very bright very sharp very close to reality. The good thing is we don't need to run to pick them up...they just turn up with the post! Very very easy!

For Christmas we ordered some personalised stamps for my Dad and Mom and just found out that we can do the same here in Luxembourg. I have just ordered some personalised ones.

I wish I could have made one for Bhavishya. I think it is a brilliant idea for all adoptive parents to do for the children waiting to be picked up from the orphanage. The idea is you build your bear and add a 10 second tape-recorded message so we could sing a short song or tell them we love them. That way our child would know our voices before we even met him/her!

Beautiful Lyrics

This song is the title track of the latest album from adoptive mom and folk singer Catie Curtis. Below are the lyrics. I am trying to find a way to post the music.

Long Night Moon
from the album Long Night Moon

I’ve got a place for you
Under the long night moon
And I’ll dream that I’ll see you soon
Goodnight, goodnight

Outside my back window
The oak tree stands alone
Waiting for a blanket of snow
Goodnight, goodnight

All through the winter
I’ll grow colder here with just your memory
But I know that somewhere you are holding on for me

Throughout the atmosphere
God knows I want you here
I can’t fake this holiday cheer
Goodnight, goodnight

All through the winter
I will build my fire in this empty room
But I know you’ll come back when the magnolias bloom

I’ve got a place for you
Under the long night moon
And I’ll dream you’re looking up too
Goodnight, goodnight
goodnight long night moon

Report on Kyrill

Well we did not suffer too much apart from loads of leaves and branches on our drive way / terrace and a few small trees in the gorge. We live on a hill so we did not have floodings thank God! We were very fortunate.

We have the Attert River running through the middle of the village. By 4:00PM the parking lot was covered in water and by 6:30 the bridge was underwater. The village was cut into 2 parts with those living north from the river and those living south from the river. I could not take any pictures then but here are some shots taken the next day (i.e. Friday Jan 19).

Came accross this picture today...Rather unusual isn't it?

En plein dans la tempête et inondations / In the middle of Kyrill and floadings!

The village is cut in 2. One cannot go over the bridge. Waow it is all very weird and amazing to see the strength of Mother Nature. I said the same with each earth quake I experienced living in California and the different huricanes! Mark stayed in Frankfurt for the night. The airport is closed and it is far too risky to drive home.

More later!

Interesting posts on Sandra's blog

Yes indeed Sandra posted some great stuff on her blog lately...

First a post dated January 15 called: "Adopt India" that was continued on "Adopt India con't". She explains very well the process of adopting a child from India. I wish someone had given us this stuff to read when we started the process! :-)

Then another one dated today (Jan 16) called "Blank Slates: A Guest Perspective". She has a Professor of Anthropology staying with her and her familly write on her blog about adoption, whether adopted children would be better off in their "own" culture. Very interesting, very pertinent!

Enjoy!

Problems posting bis

Indeed I am still experiencing problems! I must admit I haven't had much time to try to solve it!

Sunday Link Sharing (SLS)

Last week I had problems posting pictures hence me posting this only now (Sunday January 21).

Ok let's start again with the Sunday Link Sharing and I thought we could start with some of the great things we got for Christmas.

My Dad and Step Mom did not forget Pashmina and sent her some wonderful organic dog treats called "Wet Noses". Santa got her a few other treats and a "Doggie driver" which is GREAT fun to play with in the garden!

Bhavishya got some really sweet stickers from her Auntie Sophie and Uncle Kris in Australia as well as a beautiful book called "Imagine". She loves them! She got a beautiful old fashioned wooden pram from her Grandparents and we ordered her a director's chair also from the same company "Moulin Roty" but unfortunately it hasn't arrived on time so we are keeping it for her birthday. She got a lovely shirt from her friends "Mumu and Alé" as well a frame with some fun pictures. She got another pram from our friends and neighbours which she can take outside She got loads of other stuff. She was really really spoilt!

Mark got the renewal subscription for his weekly magazine "The Spectator" which is really an excellent one but in my view a little too British! He also got a gadget from his gadgety wife...I took the one with US and Canada maps as I could borrow it when Bhavishya and I will travel to the US to visit my familly.

I got a beautiful piece of chinese furniture, some beautiful earings, some fun DVD's some great CD's, some books and the one I have been dreaming having which I truly recommend to all who love India. It is such a beautiful book. The photography is amazing. The colours true to the country. One can nearly smell and feel the atmosphere whilst going through it.

Problems posting

I am experiencing problems postings pictures...I am looking into it and hope to be able to resolve the issues by tomorrow and post my SLS and other stuff I have prepared.

Good night and y'all have a GREAT week!

Technology

I am driving DH crazy...I guess I must have inherited my Dad's "gadget" gene. He's always been Mr Gadget and I have always been Ms Gadget...When something comes out I would say to DH "I nnnneeeeeeed" it. And he is right I don't need the stuff I'd like to have it. Whether a mobile phone, a camera, a dive computer, a housing for my camera so I can take underwater shots...you name it and I can give you a lot of the technological details most women usually are not capable of. Some guys are amused to see how much of a gadget freek I can be.

Well the new thing that cought my attention is the: I-phone. It looks so cool and sleek! Furthermore it is one of my new Year resolution (see post) that I want anything that could remove stress & frustration from my life!

The plus of this gadget
It has 320 x 480 screen.
It has a full-touch keyboard.
It has a built-in wi-fi.
It is Bluetooth compatible. Now while waiting at the Doctor's, the Dentist or whatever I could check email or post on my blog. Also when Mark will be "playing" with his tamagotchi (i.e. blackberry*) or in other words when he is working I will have something to play with as well!
It has a 2 megapixel camera and the high end model boasts 8GBs of storage.
It has ITunes integration which means favourite music anytime, anywhere without having to carry an extra gadget (Yes Jamie anytime, anywhere!)
It's also a video iPod, and you know what that means the new episodes of "Lost season III" anytime, anywhere.*

The Minuses of this gadget:

To my eyes there is only one...

It has a touch screen. I am unsure I like touch screens as you always get lots of finger prints on them.

or maybe another one...

It's supposed to hit the streets in the US in June.

IMBECILES VA!

Ok to be quick as I need to dash to the pharmacy...They finally found why I have been so ill since September...I have a parasite which isn't easy to find ...it was about time after 17 stool tests!

So everyone who said it was psychosomatic CAN GET LOST! IDIOTS!

Below a picture of my buddy! Ci-dessous une photo de mon copain!

New Year resolutions / Les bonnes résolutions

I think my good friend Yolande is right...why have them if you don't stick to them???

I don't smoke (I haven't for years now) so I cannot say I will stop smoking.

I do enjoy a few glasses of wine and or champagne so I won't say I will stop drinking

I won't say I shall lose weight as I have lost so much weight lately I am fed up getting on scales!

I'd like to say I won't see as many doctors I have seen in the last few months but is it reasonnable?

I would like to say I won't have such a fiery temperament about certain people's behaviour but I know it is unreasonnable to say that!

I want:
Our Daughter, my husband, dog and everyone I love to be healthy and happy.
Anything that removes stress and frustration from my life I WANT IT NOW! ;-)
I want Bhavishya to become a Swiss National within the next couple of months!
Teach Bhavishya to swimm.
I want to continue going with her to "Little Gym."
I would like to start teaching how to dive again (yes I am a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor).
I would like to dive in warm water & I would like to go back to Seychelles...I crave for "Nitrogen Narcosis" ;-)
I would like to go to Florida to see my family I miss so much.
I would like to go skiing and skining and improve my snow boarding and hope for heaps of powder snow.
I would like to have diner at Nobu in London with DH, Sunnil, Gitu, Tony, Heidi and others? (Great company and people who truely enjoy food!).
I'd love to catch up with a lot of my friends back in Switzerland (and elsewhere) and see them (Stina, Bettina, Anita, Geneviève etc.)
I would like to clean up all the weeds etc. in the gorge at the bottom of the garden and put some lighting.
I would like to start a vegetable garden (is it reasonnable with the traveling I would like to do?).
I'd like to get a little more organised especially in the admin area.
I would like Bhavishya to be accepted at the French school (L'Ecole Française) for the school year 2007/2008 if not then for the following year.

I feel so stupid saying all these things so I may add:

I WANT WORLD PEACE!

SOS doudou...SOS teddy Bear #3

Apparently, my Father-in-law found a new "Nounou" and he is sending it by mail. The question is: "Is Bhavishya going to accept a new "Nounou" or is Claire going to have to perform plastic surgery? I doubt we will find the same fabric to make him a new face...

Anyway I accidently came accross a hillarious video that somehow made a lot of sense to me (No Not the Dodge...silly!) and made me laugh. To watch please click here.

Scandal in Bollywood

MUMBAI (AFP) - A court in central India has heard statements from a lawyer complaining that an on-screen kiss by Bollywood belle Aishwarya Rai and co-star Hrithik Roshan contravened the country's strict laws against obscenity. To read more about it, click here

Here is the scene / voici la scène:

In my humble opinion one sees a lot more sexy scenes in any James Bond...Wasn't it it Ursula Andress coming out of the sea in a white T-shirt in (Dr No in 1962)?

EXCELLENT NEWS! EXCELLENTE NOUVELLE!

We are heading for a good start this year. Today we received in the mail the transcription of Bhavishya's adoption. This document is dated January 3, 2007.

Le champagne est au frais! Champagne is on ice!
Now we need to take care of her nationality / passports...Swiss to start then British...but for the time being the Brits are real *ç%& to say the least and remain polite!

SOS doudou...SOS teddy Bear

Tonight we have a big drama at home...Bhavishya's teddy bear has been decapitated...No we do not have a member of El Quaida at home...just a little jaleous dog!

Bhavishya has been repeating: "Atoupatha not good! Nounou" (Nounours is the French word for Teddy).

Can any of you help us find an orange teddy bear of the Marese brand? I've already looked on ebay and other web sites without any success. My friend Claire, who is a super seamstress has already offered to be "Nounours" plastic surgeon! Thank you Claire you are so sweet!
