Back Home...

the flight back is a lot faster than going there. it was a little over 11 hours instead of the 14. i could tell the difference. plus, we were able to sit in the first row and they have bassinets that attach to the wall in front of you. on the way there we wanted to do it since jo & amanda had malakai in one. the lady told us ani was too big. we were already planning on lying to the lady on the flight back and telling her ani was 16 lbs. she is very petite and we thought we could get away with it. we didn't have to lie. it's actually 16 kg and ani is well below that. it was such a different flight coming back.

i think it will take us awhile to recover. i'll just finish up blogging about our trip. we miss our little malakai buddha boy (and you too amanda!). amanda & malakai are staying an extra two & a half weeks to spend more time with her family.

our kids were wide-eyed and energetic bright and early this morning at 4 am. we had a very limited selection for breakfast, so we all had oatmeal. i really need to go grocery shopping.

(the store lady said our kids have really big heads--like we want to buy her hats after that comment. bray ended up really wanting his hat and got a lot of attention when he wore it around town)
on the third day our first tour guide, ni, gave up on us. i think we wore him out! they replaced him with keo. the first day his b.o. was kickin' (as dane would say). the second day we chose going to the ocean and dane was going to throw him in--but he came smelling decent. this guy could go & go. he would of had us going straight from pick-up till 9pm when our tours ended. we had to tell him that we wanted to return back to let the kids get some rest. he was great though and knew all the great spots.

this was our bus
amanda's parents were so generous enough to get us a tour guide and bus to take us anyplace we wanted. it was so convenient and made it so much easier for the kids. we loved our bus! we would just tell them what time to pick us up and where we wanted to go. we didn't have to worry about driving through the craziness or finding parking. it was great! thank you so much tina & william.
one of the days we went to Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall or newly changed to National Taiwan Democracy Memorial Hall. It is a monument in memory of the former president of the republic of china. i guess he is considered the father of their country.

one of my favorite places was the martyr's shrine. we went when they were changing guards. the different colors of the uniforms differentiates between the air force, navy, and army. it was super hot and these guys were in full uniform marching...really slow.

blue is navy. bray was kind of scared of him
we also went to the national palace museum. you can't take pictures inside, but we got to see a lot of interesting chinese artifacts. plus, it was air conditioned... a definite plus.

on one day we went to visit keelung city. it is the second largest harbor in taiwan. it was the first day that it was actually raining. some days were overcast but it never rained. this day it was pouring but still fun for us.

we really wanted to see the ocean. so after visiting keelung he drove us along the coast to yehliu park. it is known for having bizarre rock formations. my dad loved this part of the trip being a rock major and all. :) plus, he loves seeing the ocean every chance he gets. it's not the pacific ocean though. it is the east china sea. he had to put his foot in it and so did bray.

that night we went to the night market. i really wanted to try everything i possibly could, but i had to put my foot down on the snake soup. or even turtle soup. or anything with turtles or snakes it in. i just couldn't do it. they must get a lot of people wanting to take pictures of the snakes & turtles in cages because they have a sign above saying no pictures please.
we had a crazy time in taiwan. i think we got to see almost everything we could possibly see and eat everything we wanted to eat. thank you tina & william for everything!

Malakai's 6 month dinner & random pics

the 6 month birthday are big so we had a dinner with all of amanda's family. we had yummy chinese, of course.

it is the year of the rat and we would see rat decorations all over the city. amanda's aunty bought the kids these rat toys that light up. the little kids walk around the city with these. the kids loved them but they didn't make the flight back. they got squished.
our last full day there amanda's uncle treated us to lunch. it was nice because we were able to see the area where amanda's dad grew up. i can't remember the name of the place. i think it started with a D. anyways, it was a very nice area. they have geyser bath places all over.

More Food & Fun, Aboriginal Village, & Zoo

After visiting the Taipei 101, we walked around the area. It is a little newer and there is shopping departments EVERYWHERE. They love shopping here. From the top of one building we saw a little park with a train and games. So we followed the walkways and let the kids play for a little.

Being Dorks...

this guy was very drunk and he said he was a taiwanese indian. so jo asked to take a picture with him and afterwards jo kept smelling the shoulder where the guy had his arm around and he was so mad that the guy rubbed his B.O. sweat on his shirt.

That night amanda's grandparents took us out for Teppanyaki. It was the best. I think they cooked us up every meat, seafood, vegetable possible. It's not as entertaining as Benihana's. They just cook up the food in front of you without a show but the food is delicious. We've been eating so much here but that was the first time that I actually started to hurt.

Monday we had a tour bus with a tour guide take us up to taichung area and we went to visit sun moon lake. we kept thinking they were saying summer lake but it was actually two lakes before and they named one sun and one moon. then i guess the combined into one lake. our first tour guides name was ni (knee) and he had some bad foaming at the corners of his mouth. very distracting but a very nice man and full of information.

then he took us to an aborginal village. they are considered the natives of taiwan. they had a lot of tribes and you could walk through the different villages. then if you went back to the entrance they had an amusement park. a really good amusement park with absolutely no people. you would walk up and be the only people riding on the rides. kinda weird considering the rides were pretty cool.

on tuesday the tour guide took us to the zoo right in the middle of taipei. it's huge and of course it would be the hottest day since we've been here.

now he fits in with the rest of the kids. it's a solar fan hat with shades you can push down. he suckered papa into buying it for him.

Photobucket
they were cleaning the macaque area. it smelled so bad there and we couldn't believe this guy was walking through the muck to collect them. macaque's can hold their breath for a really long time. one was swimming away from the guy and you could only see the pink parts of it.

a couple places we went had these squatters. the first time i used it i realized i sat the wrong direction when i couldn't reach the toilet paper behind me. i think they are cleaner than toilet seats...just tricky.
