The First Day of School

This Monday marked Nate's very first day of school! Kindergarten, here we come! He was so ready and excited. (So was I!)
I love the look on his face in the above pic. He's kind of putting up with his parents and all the picture taking.

He got to take his Optimus Prime lunch box. He LOVES it! It was broken on the second day, unfortunately, so Optimus retired early from kindergarten.

Nate's Lego backpack. We got it at Legoland in May. He is so excited to be the only one with a Lego backpack.

Robert gets to walk Nate so school every morning. It's so nice living close enough to walk. I am also glad they get the time together to talk and hang out.

Scarlett threw a party once Nate was out of the house. She threw on WALL-E and took over the Spiderman chair. A one-year-old's idea of pure bliss.

WALL-E is soooo good!

Catching Up

Summer is almost over and I think I have hit a total of 2 blog posts. With school starting next week for both Robert and Nate, I thought I would post some pictures of our summer adventures which included a trip to Legoland and Disneyland. It really was an amazing trip so there will be ample pictures of our exploits. I will keep the commentary to a minimum!

Our first stop in California was Legoland where, you guessed it, most everything is made of Legos. I think I remember them saying there were over 30 million bricks used to build the attractions. The most impressive was the mini-America where they built major US cities all out of Legos.

They also had a special attraction where they recreated scenes from all six Star Wars movies. Of course the boys loved it!

There was a African safari adventure where all the animals were made of Legos. This was Nate "driving" with Grandpa.

There were also plenty of rides (not made of Legos). Scarlett was so happy to ride the kiddy-rides.

More Star Wars characters--of course, made of Legos

They did have some water rides. Robert made sure to use his 5 year old as a shield!

One of the coolest was an actual driving course for kids. There were no tracks, just a road and actual stop signs and traffic signals. The kids could drive however and wherever they wanted. They did of course try to teach them the proper rules of the road. Nate drove really well and did not break many traffic laws. He did pick up some bad habits from his mom and dad as he, while stopped, yelled at a red light to turn green. And, when another girl ran a stop sign and hit him, he turned around and yelled at her to "Watch were you are going!".

After Legoland it was on to Disneyland and California Adventures. We spent two days there and it was awesome. Overall we rocked Disney as we were able to ride all the rides we wanted to with minimal wait time, sometimes none at all. We seemed to get off the rides as soon as the lines started getting long. Plus, a big shout-out to whoever invented the Fast Pass. They were time....and in many cases life.....savers.

It seems that we have a family tradition of making Robert go on Ferris Wheels and taking pictures of him not enjoying himself. He hates them and this one in particular because the trolly would sway and swing.

They are building a replica Radiator Springs at California Adventure so they had some of the "stars" there to help promote it.

This is a picture of Robert's parents on the river ride. If you cannot see them it is because they are right where the water is splashing them. They got soaked.

They had a replica toy box from Toy Story 3 that kids could get in and make it look like they were a toy. We had to get a close up of Scarlett and cousin Jonathan enjoying themselves. Nate was confused why they were not posing like toys.

I had to ride the Tea Cups with Nate because my dad used to always take us and get the cup spinning so fast. I was not able to replicate the speed with which my father was able to spin the cup and I think Nate enjoyed the ride because of it.

Robert insisted the kids get Mickey Mouse ear hats. We got their names embroidered in the back. It was a great souvenir for them.

Of course we rode Splash Mountain....like 5 times because Robert totally worked the fast pass system. Somehow he managed to never get wet. Once again Nate took the brunt of the water attacks.

Perhaps the absolute highlight of the trip was when Nate got to meet Mickey. He was so excited the entire trip to meet him. All Nate wanted to do was to do the "Hot Dog Dance" with Mickey. For those who watch Mickey Mouse Clubhouse this would make sense. When he finally got to meet Mickey he happily asked Mickey if he would do the dance with him. Mickey got really excited and they both danced away. It was awesome and a really great memory for Nate.

Our trip was amazing and we were able to spend some quality time together as a family. Driving from California to Texas will do that! We also enjoyed the company of Robert's family and thank them for all they did for us on the trip.
