Sew Simple

I finally got a sewing machine! Jacob broke down and gave it to me for my birthday this month. I am so excited to finally have one! It is a fairly basic machine, but since I am a beginner, I figured that's all I need for now. My mom taught me while growing up, and I am hoping some of it stuck with me. I'm sure she will be so proud of me for doing it on my own. I have been inspired by several of my friends who sew and from seeing their creations on their blogs. Also, September is National Sewing Month, and although this month is almost over, I still have a couple days left to get sewing!
I want to ask you more experienced seamstresses- what is a simple project I can start with? And what are some basic supplies I need to get started?

Happy Birthday Jacob!

It's Jacob's 28th birthday today! I am so proud of him for all of his accomplishments in life so far. He is such a wonderful husband and one of the kindest and most patient people I know. He helps me want to be a better person. He is a hard worker and is always learning new things. He enjoys working out and wants to be a personal trainer someday (and already has been to several friends). In his free time he loves to watch movies, go out to eat, and spend time with family and friends. Here are a few more things you may or may not already know about him:
*He loves canned peas (yes, it's true)
*He grew up on a farm
*He hates to spend money
*He loves anything to do with superheroes
*He is the oldest of 7 children
*He ate practically the same thing for lunch every day for 4 years of dental school and never complained (a sandwich & a fruit)
*He would love to act in plays someday
*He loves to sit in the front row for every meeting, class, etc. (I am more of a middle-rower so we compromise on the 3rd or 4th row)
Well, hopefully you learned something new about Jacob. Feel free to tell me anything else you know or like about him. (Nothing too embarrassing, please!)

Happy Birthday honey, I love you!

Happy Autumn!

Fall is finally here! It is my favorite time of year. I love to see the leaves change colors. Of course this year that might be harder since there are barely any trees in Pocatello! And I love the smells of homemade soup, ginger cookies, apple cider, and cinnamon candles. I also look forward to picking (and eating) apples and carving pumpkins. I always get out this book by Susan Branch (I love her!) and flip through and it just reminds me why I love fall so much. It is full of recipes, crafts, and cute art. You should check it out.

Did you know that every vernal and autumnal equinox you can balance an egg on its end? It's something Jacob taught me. You can usually balance it a few days before and after the equinox. This year Jacob balanced an egg on the big end and the little end. I know you want to try it now... (it helps to let the egg sit out for a couple hours first to warm up)

What do you love about fall?

Dental Humor

I found this clip from the Carol Burnett show with Tim Conway playing a dentist and had to share. I hope you find it as hilarious as I did. (just press mute on the song below first)

Tasja + Paul

Jacob's cousin Tasja got married a couple of weeks ago and I wanted to share some pics from the festivities. They are moving to Arizona and we'll miss them when they're gone. We are so happy for them and wish them the best of luck in their new life together. Congrats Tasja & Paul!

Twin Falls

Jacob had to go to a dental seminar in Twin Falls a couple weeks ago and I got to tag along. Before we left we stopped by the Snake River Gorge and the Perrine Bridge to take a few pictures. This is the tallest bridge in Idaho.

Ida Perrine helped settle Twin Falls. (Not sure what Jacob's doing, he just loves to pose.)

We had a picnic at a golf course down in the gorge. It was beautiful driving down there. the snake river
