New doctor for week34

We finally decided to pay a visit to Dr Low C.S. at Adventist Hospital for week 34 check up. Just was not comfortable with Tanjung Hospital where Dr Ng KT left to.

First impression of Dr Low in this first visit was quite ok. He did a very thorough scan of the baby. Besides confirming baby is healthy from the scan, he also did a 3D scan of her face. Who does baby look like? Judge for yourself.... :)
 BB Shanna during her 34Weeks

The 3D scan was not charged at all, the overall bill was normal, RM54. We wonder why... as we were previously told Adventist charges ~Rm250 per 3D scan. Perhaps it's a 1st time visit gift from the new doc :D

Mummy:

Weight: 56.2kg (total 7kg increase so far in pregnancy)

Blood pressure: 90 58

Fundal height: 33cm

Baby (week 34.0):

Weight: 2kg

Doc gave the green light for us to travel back to hometown for CNY :)

Thank God for our Mom

yesterday was the first time i cleaned up a chicken, INTERNALLY! ewww...

All these while, i only see my mom doing it. After getting the chicken from the market, she'll slit the chicken very profesionally and Wa La! all the internal organs just came out like magic! SO i was trying to emulate the process, so... here was what happen:

1. we got the kampung chiicken from Aunty Cecellia

2. Audrey washed the chicken. Then she called me to cut the chicken

3. I looked at the chicken and the chicken looked back at me. I'm scratching my head on where should i start to cut.

4. i took a knife and tried to be a surgeon. I cut the chicken breast in half. Here comes the problem.

5. I opened the breast and see all the internal organs in one piece.

6. I called my mom. :) Asked her which are the things that i can cut and which one i shouldnt. Just in case i burst the wrong thing. :)

7. I found the stomach, the liver, the lungs, the ovary, the intestine, the "output" and the heart (yummy... )

8. I used a big knife, small knife and a scissor to act as a surgeon. My lovely wife just stood there looking in amazement.

9. Finally, i got it all out and manage to figure out what are the things that i always eat in the chicken... do u know that the small dark piece of organ that we always eat at the rib cage is actually the left over lung that didnt cleaned up properly... :D

moral of the story ... appreciate our mom for doing it for us all these while... :)

p.s: actually it's not that gross after all XD

The first time

4am - I woke up for toilet break, and found that my tummy was feeling very, very bloated. Lots of gas and nausea. Ended up throwing up all the contents of dinner. After that, I felt better and went back to bed.

The next day, when I got up and looked in the mirror, I was horrified to see red spots covering my whole face, even under my eyebrows... I quickly checked for spots on my body and was slightly relieved to find none.

Worried about the red spots getting worse, I went to see my faithful dermatologist, as usual the wait was extremely long ~5hours :( Finally I got to see the doctor and after examining me, she was about to send me for a blood test for suspected dengue! Then I told her about the stomach problem I had and the bout of vommiting the night before and understanding dawned on her... she said the vommiting must have caused the blood vessels on my face to break, hence the red spots. I was surprised, as I vommited constantly in my 1st trimester and this is the first time I had blood vessels on my face breaking! :S Perhaps I threw up more 'violently' this time?? Anyway, the red spots faded after a couple of days... thank God :)

Part time Self-Employed Wedding Photographer

Last sunday was a BIG day for our friend, Mr Siew and both Audrey and I was helping them oout in the wedding. It was a opportunity for me to try out the camera and get a taste of how event-photographer job is. Though not much nice shot as our primary task is to make sure all the things are done accordingly in the wedding, here are some of the "moment" which will like to share with the readers.

Oh, I'm sharing the same photos in my facebook.

Week 31 check up

Tim and I were very happy to 'see' baby again at doctor's office. We were very glad that she moved her head downwards and bottom up. Doc said she may still turn, usually after week 35 only the position becomes more set. Everything looks good and her growth is on track. She is now pressing quite hard against my diaphragm/rib cage and her bottom or her knees sometimes surfaces as a bump on my belly. I sometimes wonder if anyone has ever got a broken rib from baby's movements during pregnancy?? Probably not huh... though sometimes it feels like I may be the first.

Mummy's stats:
Blood pressure: 90 50
Weight: 55.5kg (gained 2kg over last 4 weeks! Doc said it's just nice)
Fundal hight (just learnt this new term): 31cm (correlates with then 31weeks)

Baby's stats:
At time of checkup 31.1 weeks, now 32 weeks.
Weight: ~1.6kg
Head, femur, abdomen width all measuring 30.x weeks on the scan.

Baby has a pretty consistent awake/sleep schedule now. Usually in the mornings she is sleeping, until about 10.30am. 12pm onwards she is pretty active, alternating between sleep and exercise. When her Daddy meets her again after work, she greets him with kicks and turns. 9pm to 10.30pm is also another favorite exercise slot. She seems to like jazz :)

I am feeling heavier everyday and feet are sore from the pressure in the evenings. Tim is expert at giving me foot massage now :) Heartburn/acid reflux persists, it's a really unpleasant burning sensation at the throat.

We really hope to be able to go back to KL& Melaka for Chinese New Year. The concern is that I will be 35weeks then and some people I know delivered at 36/37 weeks. Dr Ng scheduled us for a checkup on the day before we were supposed to drive back for Chinese New Year. Of course, the appointment was made before he left Adventist...

It goes on...

When we first knew baby is on the way, we faced our first dilemma of choosing ob-gyn & hospital. Pantai hospital is near where we live and we like Dr Low, the hospital facilities however were 'okay' which is better than basic - however the maternity wards are near the delivery rooms so labor 'sounds' can be heard :P Adventist hospital has excellent facilities, promotes breastfeeding and we liked Dr Ng as well, but it is further away and a little more expensive. After much deliberation, labor room/maternity ward tours, we decided to continue with Dr Ng at Adventist.

Next came the search for confinement lady. I was in my 4th month and 70% of the confinement ladies I called up were booked. So after talking to a few available ones, we met up with one 'recommended' lady and decided to hire her, so we paid up some deposit. My colleague coincidentally hired the same lady for his wife's confinement in Nov-Dec.

After confinement lady search was the babysitter search. After looking around a month or so, we visited 2 available babysitters and decided to hire the one that seemed less calculative and more likely to love the baby.

Then, my colleague came back with many unfavourable reports of our confinement lady, including attitude, quality of work, etc that made us uncomfortable. My other concern was the availability of the confinement lady as my EDD is now 1 week earlier and I knew it would overlap with her other job. So I started looking out for other confinement ladies but only those recommended directly by friends, not 'friend's friend's friend's sister'... Well, I couldn't find any available that were also within budget (<3k). Now the plan is for our moms to come for 2 weeks each and help with the cooking while we hire a temporary maid probably 3 times a week for the cleaning. I think it will work out, probably for the best :)

Finally, the latest episode in the saga... my ob-gyn Dr Ng left Adventist without any notice given! We saw him on Friday for checkup and by Monday he had left!! Apparently he left on very short notice (24 hours). So, we are back to our original dilemma of doctor + hospital.... whether to stay with Adventist, change gynae; go to Dr Ng at another hospital; or back to Dr Low at Pantai... decisions, decisions....

Interesting journey so far :)

Yummy~

We went shell fish hunting at Sungai Batu. Grace taught us how to dig for the shell fish with the special contraption borrowed from her uncle. we ended up digging with our hands as it was easier :P

Being amateurs, we didn't have much of a harvest, but good enough as I'm trying to avoid seafood due to sensitive skin (but it's so hard! I love seafood).

The shell fish ended up in our seafood pasta. It was sweet, fresh and succulent... yummy lunch :)

2009 is here!

Happy New Year everyone! :)

Been awhile since we last blogged... the usual 'reason'... busy! Hehehe...

We had a great time when our families visited us over Christmas and until New Year. Lots of eating and shopping during year end sales - Metrojaya warehouse sale, Sunshine member day sale, Jusco New Year Eve sale.
I ended up going to Metrojaya warehouse sale 3 times in 6 days, first with colleagues, then Tim's family and then my family. Managed to get some household stuff there (quite impossible to go 3 times and not buy anything, right? :)). Tim and I also stocked up on toilet paper, dishwasher liquid, toiletries, diapers, etc at Sunshine, Tesco & Jusco enough to last us for another half a year, just in case we don't have time for shopping later... kiasu hehe :P We're becoming quite expert at identifying the cheapest prices :D

I also learnt to cook curry chicken, sweet soy sauce chicken from Mummy and white fungus soup... food that I like :)
