Baylee Jeanne

My little angel Baylee
has slept almost perfectly through the night since she was
6 weeks old.
I feel SO LUCKY.
I've had two babies before this, and I know it's unusual and such a blessing.

Now that she's 6 months
she decided to spice things up a bit.
It started with a simple wake up and right back to sleep about a week and a half ago.
Then it was wake up multiple times.... lots of times.
Then, she started to wake up 45 minutes after I put her down, every night.
Inconsolable screaming.
Tonight she wouldn't go to bed, like she has perfectly for I don't even know how long.

I start to wonder.
Is it the food she's eating?
She has been a little more fussy in the day too.
Is she teething?
She's been drooling.
Is she hungry?
Maybe I'm just not giving enough to this growing girl.
We're all a little sick with a cold, is she too?
Should I give her medicine?
Is she dependent on her binkie?
Does she just know I'm here now, and why not get attention?
or
ALL OF THE ABOVE!

Well, now she has a helmet too.
How is this going to contribute if at all?

Good news folks.
After 20 minutes of screaming tonight
(and me really trying hard to ignore it)
she went to sleep!
Now, what will the rest of the night bring?
I'll have to keep you posted!

So here's what's going on with the helmet.
1 week before the helmet.... and the obvious reasons for it.

And now with the helmet

Not too happy.  No vent holes in the back.  Too hot, and too tight on
right check and over ear.
We had to take it in the next day to get it adjusted.

Day 3 and we finally found our happies.
She will need to wear it for 3 to 6 months we think.  When her head is in the shape it should be, if she still has the "soft spot" (all babies have) then she'll just wear it when she sleeps.  It just depends on when her soft spot closes up, and how quickly the natural fluids in her head go to wear their supposed to.  We're not really moving bones here.

Silly Andrea moment....
I'm really sad I can't dress her up with bows and flowers on her head anymore!

Once upon a Halloween

It's time to catch up a bit on some major things that took place while I ignored the fact that I try to keep an updated blog.

Cohen's preschool went to a pumpkin patch on a field trip.  Parker, Baylee, and I joined in too.  A pumpkin patch Las Vegas style is so much different from Oregon!

Next in our efforts to have a fun Halloween was paining mini pumpkins.  We got these for free from the field trip.  Perfect!  The boys had so much fun!

Ah, yes.  Cohen is wearing his eye patch.  We're hopefully done with that soon!

Of course, we had to carve pumpkins.  Cohen thinks the insides are too gooey and disgusting to touch.  He gets really grossed out.  However, he loved coming up with a face and a SWORD on his jack-o-lantern.  That was really important to him.

Parker is eating the raw pumpkin carvings.  Yes, he really liked it and we had to tell him to stop eventually.

Happy Boys!

I really enjoy sewing costumes for some reason, but it's way too easy to get in over my head.  After counseling with Josh, I decided to buy a costume for Parker, make a costume for Cohen (which was a simple project, not every piece was from scratch) and make Baylee's costume.  I bought a witch hat for myself, and called it good.

I did make Baylee's costume from scratch, and patterned the under-onesie from one she already had.  Sometimes sewing little things is harder than sewing big things, I learned.

Staying up way too late to sew.  It just comes with the deal.

Just in case you weren't sure... Parker is Super Man, of course, Cohen is Jake from "Jake and the Neverland Pirates," and Baylee is Tinkerbell.

Christmas!

We visited Utah for Christmas this year.
We simply had a wonderful time and forgot about all our stress for a week.

Letters to Santa

Christmas Eve pajamas!  The kids seem to forget every year that I have them open one gift on Christmas Eve, and that it's ALWAYS pajamas.  Funny.

Parker will always come up with the weirdest poses for pictures!  What a cutie.

Look what Santa left us!  His elves found some really good deals on toys this year.  We shared Christmas morning with my mom and Karen.  They got to join in on the excitement.  Dear Karen still doesn't know.... :)

One of Cohen's top gifts this year was a simple cross bow.  It's had hours and hours of use.

Christmas mayhem

Christmas mayhem continued.  I just had to capture it.

Baylee's first Christmas.  She was so excited.... right?
Really, she could care less.  But, she's cute.

This was the one and only picture we could capture with everyone on Christmas day before many more meltdowns occurred.  Baylee was the first to melt.  I think some of the parents were next.

This is the first year we took the family to see the temple square lights.  It was freezing but we had a great time!
Baylee's poor face was so cold, but daddy kept everything else nice and warm.

We crashed Josh's good friend's (Rob) family Christmas Party.  They figured Josh was family anyway since they've known each other since they were 5.  Now both our kids are 5, and they played Mary and Joseph in the Nativity.  Oh, they were so cute!

It was actually quite the program.

No one prompted Cohen to pick up and rock the baby Jesus.  He just wanted to.  What a tender-hearted little man.

Wow, Cohen

Cohen completed a workbook of 65 mazes today in about 45 minutes.
Wow.
He loves mazes, and always does them on cereal boxes, and searches for them in his randomized preschool and kindergarten workbooks.
When I was at the Lakeshore Learning store today I saw a Pre-K to first grade book with only mazes, and thought I'd surprise him with it this afternoon.
I can't believe he sat right next to me and did the whole book in one sitting.
If anyone sees maze books for young children let me know.
I think this boy likes them and would love more of a challenge, or just more maze time!

Baylee's Baby Blessing

Baylee Jeanne Johnson was blessed on Sunday, August 4, 2013 by her daddy.
It was a little crazy to do it in the midst of all our transitions, but we were happy to bless Baylee surrounded by so many family members.

She was just one month and four days old.
She was an angel during the blessing.
Everything went great.
Happy times.
