BaYloR

baylor homecoming is this weekend...

our lifelong friends Amy and Christy
(we spend homecoming with their fam every year)

this picture with santa isn't from homecoming,
but i just had to share.
i mean, LOOK AT US!!
(can you say roots?)

ame, me, meg, bud, Alex and Jason

 best friend/college roommate Casey

this weekend always makes me reflect a little on college.
i loved every minute of it.
but, i also thought the world revolved around me
and thought way too much of myself.
i was rude and found my security in others
and what they thought of me.
i definitely didn't live with an eternal perspective
or for His glory.
i know we shouldn't dwell on regrets or the past.
but i know we can for sure learn and grow from it.
this "college me" still shows itself more than i'd like.
and when it does,
i'm so thankful for grace and forgiveness...
both from my Savior, family and friends now and then.

just for fun, a college memory :)

we ate a LOT, played games, enjoyed the fabulous weather & ate some more.
that's what i call a perfect weekend..

book worm

something has happend to me that i never imagined.

i love to read.
like, love it so much i want to start a book club.
and jake's new nickname for me is Book Worm.

over the summer i read The Help.  It was the first time
(yes, first time in 28 years)
that I understood what it meant to get lost in a book.
I read it in 2 days and when it ended,
I cried and cried...
so sad to say goodbye to those characters that I grew to love so much.

It took me a few months to pick my next book
because I didn't think I could love another one like The Help.
But, I just read The Hunger Games
(again in 2 days which I'm bragging about because I've never read books so fast in my life)
and i'm obsessed.
I can't wait to grab the next one in the series.

If you too are a book worm, will you let me know some books
that I've missed out on all these years that are must reads?!

this saturday we went to the
  taylor swift concert in dallas
it was AMAZING
and when i say amazing, i mean out of control incredible
i mean, i screamed as loud as every little girl
in the cowboys stadium
and maybe i cried with joy at one point
and i would go again in a heart beat

my sister set the whole thing up and we had the best seats.

and a little extra random

i found this smoothie recipe on pinterest
it originally came from here

i made it for lunch today and it was delish!

{frozen banana+oats+milk+peanut butter}

love note

found this when i was organizing a few things.
it's the note jake left me on our last night off
at kamp 5 years ago.
happened to be the night he proposed.

God is good to give us sweet memories.
this one swept me away today.
so grateful jake chose me.

my portion

i have been down in the dumps lately.
i shared a little with my sister this weekend
and before i left to come home,
she handed me a stack of verses.
As i read through them, i was reminded of how God uses people in our lives as vessels of His love.
My sister is and has always been a tangible example of how God loves me.
He used her again this weekend to speak into my life, to move in my heart.

how easily i forget the power of my heavenly father's words.
They are life-giving.
I am clinging to this verse today.

Because of the Lord's great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail.  They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness. I will say to myself, "the Lord is my portion, therefore I will wait for Him! The Lord is good to those whose hope is in Him, to the one who seeks Him."
Lamentations 3:22-25

Awesome 80's Surprise

My sweet Jake turns 30 this Sunday.
To celebrate, I {with lots of help from some very sweet friends + family} put together an
AWESOME 80's SURPRISE PARTY!

Now, surprises are already hard enough to pull off,
but especially when you are married to a well known "snoop"
So, i was determined to make it happen!
and it did.
HE WAS SHOCKED.

we had it in dallas & so many wonderful friends came!

we changed into our 80's best once we arrived

this is the only picture of the decor that i took.
we had all of jake's favorite desserts, drinks and 80's music.

it was such a fun night and
{most importantly}  i think jake felt so "totally" loved!

home sweet apartment

when we made the decision to rent our house instead of sell it,
we also decided that it made the most sense
to rent an apartment for the first year we are in houston.
3 bedroom house to a ONE bedroom apartment
the challenge made me excited
this is our year to save
but i also wanted to make some changes to our decor
so, i'm doing a few things on a budget

- our bedroom -

the week we were moving, we made a last minute decision to sell our
NASTY BIG couch on craigslist. i put it on the website, and it sold that night.
with that money, i bought our new quilt and shams.
and i splurged, because i've been wanting them forever.

the painting is a piece by the outrageously talented Casey Wiegand,
who happens to by one of my very best friends.
check her very awesome blog out here

the night stands are hand-me-downs from jake's grandmother.
we sanded them down and painted them a pretty blue.

the blue and white pillows are from west elm - a birthday gift from my mom
but, the yellow pillow - here's how i made that one.

while unpacking, i found this cute bag.
i love the print & thought it would be cute with the blue and white.
i checked to make sure my pillow insert would fit,
and cut the straps down the middle.
after i stuffed the pillow in, i tied the straps and ta-da!

so easy and free!

i've been wanting new pillow covers, but didn't want to spend the money.
i found this EASY diy and made all 3 of these covers for $10 total.
