Bigger than you think.

I was trying to get a different post up, one with a video. But it just wont work, so I will wait for my all knowing husband to get home and see if he can figure it out! And if you are Riley then you can skip this post as I literally just copied and pasted from the letter I wrote you this week... haha. Saved me from write'n it twice!

And for the rest of you this is a story that makes Jared and I look a little silly, but since it's mostly just family who reads this I thought some of you might get a kick out of it!

So we have been wanting/needing a new microwave, like bad. Like I could no longer really warm up Elsa's ice cubes of food in it because it took too long. However I assured Jared I could do without and just warm stuff up on the stove. I have been making our popcorn on the stove for months as it was.

Well there was a grand opening of a Canadian Tire near our house and we were looking through the flyer for it, and there was a really nice microwave on for pretty cheap, so Jared suggested we go check it out. So we loaded up the kids and headed over to the zoo... seriously tho that Canadian Tire was THE busiest store I think I have been in in my life! We located the last of the on sale microwaves and snatched it up.

Then Jared suggested we go just take a look at the BBQ's...

Well there happened to be a good one of those on sale too.
Jared said that since he had been working so many hours and we were doing okay money wise for now that he felt we could do one "summer splurge" and get ourselves a BBQ (you should also know that we had tried to restore a bbq left at the big apartment garbage can before this, but it was junk and we didn't think we could make it work).

So we went through the check out with our microwave and bbq in tow, feelin pretty good.
Now to get it all home. And Jared was pretty sure it would fit into our "huge trunk"....
hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.... keep laughing.

Well there we stood, I had gotten the kids into the car and pulled the car up to the front of the CanTire, we moved the stroller into the backseat with the kids, then tried with all our might to fit the bbq into the trunk (just so we don't seem totally re-stupid. The bbq was mostly disassembled and came in a box that was about half the size of a built bbq). Well the box was probably not even a cm too big for the opening of our trunk.

So then Jared suggested we try putting it in the passenger seat....
hahahahahahahahahahaha.

ya that didn't work either.
We must have looked like a couple'a stupids this whole time.

So then I suggest that we leave the bbq at customer service, go home unload the kids and carseats, and then Jared could go back and we could pray that it would fit into the backseat....
and while we are discussing this option, and we are about to head to customer service, this elderly guy (okay, he was like my Dad's age) steps up to us and says:
"where yous guys headed?"
us- "over by the university."
"okay then, I'll go get my truck, we'll throw this bbq into the back, one of you can come with me, and one of you can drive your own car, and I'll take this to your place for you."

Oh. My. Sweet Man of Mercy.

Seriously, he must of had had a good chuckle watching us dough heads from afar, decided he had seen enough and that we were actually in dire straights for a little compassion and offered a helping hand!

While the nice Man got his truck I handed Jared the only money I had, a $20 and told him to give it to him and then offer him anything else he wanted, time, labour, a back rub.... haha but seriously.

Then I got in the car and drove our babies and our new microwave home, and luckily the super nice man didn't want our money or even Jared's body... he just wants us to buy a grad gown/smock thing and hat when Jared graduates, as he is the owner of the company who makes/supplies them to the University Graduates here. Thanks goodness! We should have invited him for a bbq sometime, but we were a little slow to think of that one. But if I ever run into him again I will!

The conclusion of this story: it's just way better to live closer to family. Or have friends with bigger vehicles than you.

Flying with Two is Fun to do.

I honestly feel like most of my brain works in songs. When you read the title does it become a song for you?

Now that I've got that thought out there I think some of you might enjoy reading about one of my latest adventures. And it has nothing to do with all the songs in my head. Ha.

About three weeks ago my fantastic parents decided to come pick up me and my children and take us back to Alberta for a couple weeks. Hopefully I will get to write all about that at some point but for now I am just going to write about our trip back to Regina just a short 16 days after they picked us up.

You see Jared did not come with us, he had to stay back and be a student and make the money. Poor guy, he is seriously so hard working I am so so fortunate to have him. And even though he has been working himself to the bone lately he was still so understanding of the three of us ditching him for some time with family.

Okay so we had a really wonderful time and were completely spoiled by my family. But Jared was ready to have us back. And I hate to say it out loud, but if our plane tickets hadn't been booked in advance I would have been tempted to stay a little longer. But I knew that it would be good to be back, the main deterrent was that Jared would be starting finals, which makes us see him even less than usual. Yes, you also read correctly that we would be flying back to Saskatchewan, me and my two children.

This kind of thing does not intimidate me, I am a pretty organized person and therefor feel pretty prepared to deal with my kids by myself. Plus I've had lots of practice, what with a busy husband and no family living close by for the past year and a half.

My Mom helped me get through baggage, and getting the carseats into the oversized/fragile drop off area. Then we said our goodbyes, parted ways and me and the two little hooligans headed towards security.

Security went super smooth for having 2 kids and a stroller. Luckily Magoo wasn't in the mood to be running around (by nothing short of a miracle). I had 2 backpacks plus our coats and luckily they didn't make us remove our shoes. I had pretty well emptied out all little pockets of the stroller into my coat pockets and zipped it in so I could just throw my coat into a tray and retrieve it without having to grab a million things (i.e. keys, phone, stroller adapters, etc.). Plus the people at security were relatively quick and helpful. My only hiccup there was when I tried to put Magoo back into his stroller, but I bribed him with the iPad and we were off.

Next I found a really nice bathroom in the new part of the airport, not that I needed the glam, but it wasn't that far from our gate, plus we had time to spare, and it was really quite in that area of the airport way with hardly anyone else around.

Changed diapers.
Found a place to settle down next to our gate. Magoo was happily playing the iPad so I nursed Stitch.
At this point we still had some time to spare, so once  I thought I would take a little walk over to the big windows to take a look at the planes. And of course get some pictures.

(Me, oblivious to what lie ahead. Everything was hunk dory at this point.)
One thing I should add is that the airport was ridiculously hot. Like weirdly so, and I didn't even really realize it until we were out of the building. Also I was running of 5 1/2 hours of sleep this day... a headache was lurking, but I was trying not to think about it.

So it was shortly after the above picture that Magoo started getting a little restless and no longer wanted to be in the stroller.
Ensue trying to escape while screaming at the top of his lungs...
But we boarded the plane without him actually escaping and with minimal embarrassment. Despite the fact that there were 4 people in wheel chairs boarding the plane and 3 other parents with strollers and children (okay everyone else was only doing this with one kid). Needless to say there weren't many employees to help us hold children/fold up strollers at the door of the plane. But we helped each other out and it all worked out.

We find our seats and luckily this little man is entertained for a second while I try to stuff our bags under the seats while the stewardess is giving me the run down on flying with kids and blah blah blah blah blah. Yes. Thank You. Done this before. Thank you. Not going to give you my full attention. As you can see I have 2 kids and my new neighbour just sat down in the aisle seat making things very squishy... like Magoo had a nice seat all to his little self, but Stitch was what is called a "lap child" making us share a seat. And I have a dude sitting on my other side, not a fat guy, not even husky, but on a plane anything bigger than like a 5year old and this kind of situation and your going to end up having to touch some parts of your bodies at all times during your tip, be it a leg, arm, elbow. Some part of them touching some part of you... and I had even put up the arm rest between me and Magoos seat in search for more space.

I decided I should introduce myself to this new neighbour what with me having 2 kids and there was a chance I might need a hand at some point. He turned out to be a nice guy, going to SK to work, no kids of his own but had nephews and nieces or something like that. Cool, not creepy, I was okay.

Turns out the plane had quite a few open seats and the kind stewardess offered a window seat in a row that only had one other person sitting in it. The guy refused saying "I think I'll stay and help out this lady out with her kids..." I reassured him I would be fine, and he still refused.
Turned out he was a little overly helpful, still not in a creepy way, but in a way that my own personality does not appreciate. He kept taking Stitch from me in attempts to "help" throughout the flight, when usually I was just talking to Magoo and not really in distress at all. Plus a few other things he did that just bothered me, but I'm over them now so I will move on.

So during the flight I developed a very bad headache. I didn't have any sort of relief on hand like advil or whatever, nor did I think to ask for any. Also I was feeling fairly nauseated during the flight but I blamed on motion sickness since I can get pretty carsick sometimes. And didn't mention it to my stranger-neighbour or any employee

Once the plane landed I waited around for a bit before getting off, remembering the many people who required help with strollers, thinking I would wait for them to get off then have my turn with less passengers around and more employees. Get to the door of the plane, see the stroller still folded up, but mine is the only one left, unfortunately Magoo was ahead of me and I just barely missed his hand when I tried to grab it and he saw freedom down the very long corridor of the terminal and was off like a rocket.

I frantically grabbed the stroller, still hanging onto Stitch, trying to figure out if I should put her down on the grungy floor to open it, or just leave the stroller and come back for it, all while trying to look for help. A passenger saw my ordeal and offered to hold stitch or open the stroller. I handed her Stitch, flung open the stroller, grabbed my baby and was off, racing towards Magoo who was at the end of the terminal now, entering the main hall of the airport (keep in mind during this I am calling him, having to yell his name in attempts to summons him back to me, begging him for cooperation). At this terminal to airport intersection I see a group of WestJet employees standing there chatting, and I call out "help, please grab him"… they all stand there, giggling at the scene of this crazy free two year old, fleeing from his mother with pure determination to get as far as fast as his crazy legs would carry him, I was not impressed, and at this point I begin to loose it, tears forming as I see Magoo take a sharp left into the hall that leads to an escalator which goes down to the baggage claim…

I run as fast as I can, reaching these employees, swear words flying out of my mouth, (okay only one) I expressed my anger and disappointment to their lack of service and help of any kind.
I take a left, spot Magoo passing what appears to be a pilot. The pilot misses him and half tries to re-catch him.
With every plea I make to Magoo to come back, "come to me, please Magoo stop stop stop," frantically begging him not to go any further.
It only drives his little legs impossibly faster, it was amazing and so frustrating.
I finally reach this pilot character, let go of the stroller, hand him Stitch, then run as fast as only a mother can who has a crazed child.
Reach him, grab him, put him in the stroller and synch him in.
By this time I am balling and reaming out this pilot who is still patiently standing there holding Stitch for me. All my disappointment and exhaustion pouring out. Helpless.

Take Stitch, get to the Elevator, as I press the button I realize the walls of the hallway are glass, all the people in the baggage claim, including Jared probably saw and maybe even heard most of what just happened and what I said… Though I don't know for sure because I am to afraid to ask Jared due to my own embarrassment.

The elevator doors open to a new West Jet employee, who sees me in tears, and then she asks if I need help, finally someone doing their job. I informed her that unfortunately she was too late, I had it under control now, and luckily nothing worse happened then maybe my own pride and self as a mother taking a beating a little… in the elevator I also realized that at some point, probably trying to open the stroller I had also ripped one of my nails, not enough to bleed, but part of it was just hanging there, and it sure started to hurt.

Get to Jared, cry a little more, get my composure, collect our bags and carseats, load into the car.

Once finally sitting I realize I am actually really really sick.
I have a migrane headache and everything hurts. Everything.
Get home, grab Stitch, nurse her in my bed. She won't sleep, I take her out to Jared, who is being such a trooper considering he hadn't seen us in like 2.5 weeks and I come home completely sick and useless.
My Dad calls to see if we got there safe talk for a second then hangup.
Make it just in time to the toilet to throw up. Finally. The nausea is going away.
I go sleep for just under an hour. Get woken up.
Jared needed help feeding kids dinner then he had to bolt off to the school, he had to do a big presentation that night and still had one last meet up with his group.
Struggle (mostly due to my still pounding, relentless headache) to get the kids in bed, but in retrospect they were really good. It helped they hadn't napped at all that day!!!
After they're asleep is when my advil finally kicked in, and I have been feeling relatively well ever since…
I think I must have gotten some food poisoning or something, maybe from the meat at subway I had eaten at for lunch that day. who knows.

So if I were to do it all over again this is what I would do differently:
- get sleep the night before
- not fly during/close to nap time (for my kids a morning flight would have been better)
- body wrap/sling the baby as much as possible. Trying to have both hands free at all times. But especially when getting off the plane.
-only bring one backpack. Magoo didn't really like to wear the backpack I had for him, probably because I made it too heavy. (Plus I brought more stuff than was needed, I could have just brought the iPad, water and a couple snacks and been good (plus essentials like diapers and wipes of course).
- bring advil/tylenol and gravol for kids
-consider a toddler leash thing for high stress moments. I do have a double stroller but there was a point a leash might have been a safe choice.
-the less stuff the better, if we can travel without jackets, do it.
-and don't get sick.

Yes Some of you might have a good chuckle as you read this. And I'm sure one day it might be funny to me as well. It was a crazy afternoon, but I am not scared of doing it again. If anything I feel more empowered to have a better on it the next time.

Good luck with any of your flying attempts with children in tow, with another parent or not! Kids can sure give us a run for our money and I say the more advice and life experiences from others can only help us get through our own experiences in one piece with our dignity still trailing behind us somewhere.

Little Miss Stitch is 6 Months

Oh long lost, neglected, but not forgotten blog. I miss you. I yearn to be more diligent in my record keeping. Even my personal, private, paper journal has been put up on a shelf and not opened nearly enough these days. It makes me sad, I love writing and keeping a record and I feel it is so important to record this time in my life, times that my children might have a hard time recalling on their own. I want them to know of their cuteness and how much I adore them (most days... haha). And with technology these days it is truly so easy to capture so many moments in time. I Love it!

So Stitch is 6 Months however she is ahead of her time already. It's like those little girls you see and you think well she's 13 going on 24... haha but Stitch is 6 months going on 2 years. She tries so hard to crawl and to pull herself into a standing position, it's really quite amusing. Even her body is bigger than 6 months. I haven't weighed or measured her recently but she has been in 9 month size clothes for a couple weeks now.

Today was one of my favourite times in developmental stages. Stitch got her first mouthful of "real" food! She had a few bites, probably a Tablespoons worth. We started with baby rice cereal. She really loved to help and seemed to want to take over so once she seemed satisfied I just let her play/fling the rest around.

Food is so fun!

Also when Magoo hit 6 months I did a little amateur "photo shoot" of him just with my phone, so I decided Stitch needed one as well.
I can say that I have honestly been blessed with children who really love each other. Magoo has never shown jealousy towards stitch, never hitting or being unkind. There have been a couple times where Magoo has sat on Stitch thinking she wanted to give him a horsey ride... but thats about it. ha. And she loves him right back. She is always watching him and hoping he will pay a little more attention to her.

She is such a happy baby. The only times she really lets her full laugh show is when Magoo is around, and he doesn't have to do much to get her going, and once she gets going Magoo starts laughing and they just go back and forth laughing and laughing. I love it when it happens. The rest of us really have to work to get her to laugh and even then it can be so half hearted like she's doing us a favour...
She sleeps in her own bed (within the last couple weeks I have gotten more adamant about that), but not all the way through the night. She is getting better at putting herself to sleep, although sometimes I still love to cuddle her to sleep.
She has her Daddy wrapped around her finger already... okay she might have us all wrapped around a finger.

She certainly is very special, so full of life and love that you can feel even though she is so young. She is full of emotion and character. She has a million of different looks and expressions. I am so grateful she is apart of me, apart of us. She is fantastic and I look forward to getting to be her Mom throughout her life.

A Glimpse into our Holidays

Heres a little video of clips I compiled to give you a little view into our Holidays this year. This video is mostly for my brother Riley who is serving a mission right now, but you are more then welcome to watch it too!

At one point you will watch part of Hesston's Christmas concert, Hesston is standing on the top row, right on the end. Blue shirt, brown hair. Don't miss him.

Enjoy!

*If you cant see the video and would like to leave me a  comment and I will email it to you in a different format.

New Years

*Dont miss my Christmas Post below.

After we packed jammed all our christmas crap stuff into our car we headed to the great white, freezing North.

Magoo loves to get into all of Nanna Jo's and G-Lo's stuff.
My Nanni and Grandpi (Bates) came in just to visit us! Can you believe my grandpa had a triple bypass just at the end of October, he is doing great and looking great as usual.

G-Lo the fry tease. (G-Lo is short for Grandpa Logan, fyi)

Life.Saver. (the iPad, not the food)

We all spent some time playing in the snow, and earning our keep by helping G-Lo chop his firewood.
We went out to visit Ammon and Lacey (Lang) and check out their new pad and pup. Unfortunately Magoo got a fever while there and we didn't stay as long as we would have liked. On a funny note, he felt comfortable enough to strip down to his diaper and chill on their couch.

Can I just note how much I Love my Dad with my Babies. He just loves them both so much. I don't have as many pictures with him and Magoo cause they were usually outside working playing.

We visited with Ash and Tay (McClung. Taylor is my cousin) as well as Matt and Des (Kastendieck) and their cute little man.

I went to see my favourite Dentist. A much needed visit. I had a filling fall out a year ago and finally just got it refilled. I have a really hard time with fillings and trusting different dentist (I have a really hard time with change...) and I LOVE my dentist. Dr. Fairbanks. It will be a sad day when he decides to retire. Jared calls me a dentist snob... but I just can't help it. Why change a good thing!?

See they work real hard... haha

And before we headed back to the flatlands of Sasnatchewan we were sure to get some good airplane rides in... We all got/gave them but I don't personally have pictures of everyone.

This was on our way back, and I can guarantee it was NOT this peaceful for most of the trip. But I sure did enjoy the little bit of peace we did get. Thank goodness they fell asleep at the same time!!

Of course when we pulled into town, and were 10 minutes from home only to be stopped by a train.
So Painful!

I loved the time we spent in Edmonton, we packed it full of activities everyday. We had so much fun seeing movies and shopping and eating, and spending time with people we love. The two weeks of Christmas and New Years FLEW by. I was so not ready to head back to Regina, but we are here and it is good. Our Christmas stuff is packed away and I am not in the least bit sad about it. The only thing left is to work off the belly chunk I gained over the holidays...

I hope to get a video up in the next couple days. So stay tuned.

Christmas 2012

So I have been slacking to say the least. And I am about to post a bunch of pictures. Some will be from Instagram, so for those who follow me on there, sorry for the repeat....

For Christmas this year we head West to Claresholm.

In our travels the doodle pad and iPad were our lifesavers. Honestly.
Stitch loves her Grandpa, they spent lots of time together.

We had only just arrived then we packed up the kids again and headed into Colehurst to watch Hesston and Joey's Christmas Concert and to hang out with family.
Magoo LOVED the dogs and cat, too bad the feelings weren't mutual. The cat even bit him... it's luck to still be alive (the cat, not the boy) ha.

Hesston, Kendal, and Payton are so great with Stitch. We loved spending some time with them.
The wanderer. aka Uncle Dally Wally

 Christmas Dress

We loved all the time we got to spend with cousins and family!

These are Jared's Granny and Grandpa (Hamon), we love them dearly. We helped them with their garden the summer I was pregnant with Magoo and formed a wonderful relationship with them. They are so loving, we love to visit them every chance we get. He just turned 90 this past year.

Uncle Adam and Aunt Erin brought there dogs who are a little more use to kids they were great with our animal loving Magoo. Sadie (their weinhreimer dog) even let Magoo ride on her back for a bit.haha

Chirstmas Eve we all enjoyed reading the Christmas story by the fire, and singing hymns. I waited for my turn to talk to Riley. And the kids enjoyed getting into the Christmas Eve gifts and chillin with family.

Christmas morning was full of video calls to family and opening stocking and gifts. My Mom bought WAY too BIG pj pants, Robyn and Emily showed me the trick they could do... too funny! And Magoo got into opening presents a bit more this year.

Christmas Day family photo op... minus Magoo (you try to get him to sit still for a picture!). Stitch finally decided to join the gift opening party (she sleeps all morning.) Good thing Daddy had already done most of the work by the time she woke up! And Magoo spent lots of time giggling and playing with cousins.

Of course throughout the week we helped make yummy treat, and stuffed ourselves full on good food and good times. I love the family I married into and feel very fortunate to have them all in my life and my children's life!
