Since he just turned a year, I just thought I'd write a little bit about our boy.
Other than all the normal developments for a baby of a year he also mimicks quite a bit. According to the ped. this is advanced-sweet! At least he's ahead in one way, since he's not physically at all anymore. He's slowed down a TON after breastfeeding and is (and has been for a few months) at 50th %ile for height, and 10th%ile for weight. Poor kid got Jason's metabolism. He's no longer my little chubby guy.
Things he's mimicked so far:
Blowing his nose-which is really funny since he doesn't know how to do it. He just holds a tissue up there and makes the same sound with his mouth.
Peek-a-Boo-He holds up towels, blankets, whatever, and pulls them down giggling and making sounds that start with a 'p.'
Nasal Spray-He's had a cold the past couple weeks and one morning he got a hold of the spray and stuck it up his nose. He also does this with teh aspirator is he grabs it fast enough.
Waving-he's been doing this since 9 months old though.
Hide-and-Seek-He goes behind the couch (like behind the end of it where we can't see him), and pokes his head out, and then goes back. He repeats this many times, giggling when he comes out, and being quiet when he goes back behind it.
Sounds- He says the normal ones and then a whole array of random other noises come out of his mouth. Lately he makes this funny sound with the a 't' at the end.
Answering the phone-He pulls his toy phones out of their places, holds them up to his ear/mouth and says a husky "Hi" that sounds a little more like "ha."
Random-He mimicks other things that we do as well but they're harder to point out.
Food
Loves: oranges(he goes gaga for these), bananas, bread, sqaush and sweet potatos, macaroni and cheese (I make velveeta shells and cheese from scratch), any cheese really.
Hates: soy sauce, mustard and green beans. You might be wondering why mustard and soy sauce are on the list...he tasted some of my rice that had soy sauce in it, and spit it right back out. He likes rice with any other kinds of seasonings or sauce on it though. The mustard was from a piece of my sandwich that I gave to him, which he immediately took right back out. The kid likes barbeque sauce, hot cheetos, ginger flavored chinese sauce, buffalo sauce and other weird things for a baby, so compared to those, mustard doesn't seem so weird.
Other than the hates, he eats everything else. He just likes to eat.
Interests:
-Cords and outlets.
-Stairs.
-Things that makes music (chimes, drums, singing, etc...)
-Clearing off tables, shelves, desk, whatever. He apparently likes to have everything on the floor.
-Light up toys.
-Toy cars.
-Toilets (inside...outside...the paper)
-Pointing (He points at stuff all day long and will keep pointing until I tell him the object's name.)
Words he Understands Already:
-Mama and Dada
-'Give Kisses'(which he'll do on command)
-clap (and he does-it's SO cute. He also claps whenever he hears someone say "Yay!"
-upstairs
-hungry (he crawls towards the kitchen when hearing this)
-orange
-gentle
-no (although he doesn't always listen to it)
-uh uh (no)
-'night night'
-hi and bye bye
-car
-He's learning 'yucky' right now since he tries to get in the trash can. He's also learning 'danger' because of his obsession with cords, wires and outlets.
Personality:
He is very determined/stubborn. He is goofy. He loves to play little games with us. He is affectionate. He comes over and gives us little kisses and the time and will just nuzzle his head into us. He's very communicative, even with strangers often times. Whenever walking into the grocery store, he'll pull out his pacifier to wave and babble at someone walking behind us. I've noticed that he's more outgoing when he's with one or a couple of people. When he's in a big group, he tends to keep more to himself. He LOVES to be with people, anyone really. He only ever gets that 'cling to mom' thing when he's really tired or sick. Otherwise, as long as he's with someone, he's a happy camper. People steal him away at church a lot. He's not so much of a performer. He does these neat things with us at home, and then when I want to show someone what he can do, he won't. He'll do things on command when it's just Jason and I, but not to show off. He doesn't like stuff on his hands. He pulls off gloves and mittens. He tries to shake off any food that gets stuck on them from eating. He also tries to wipe his mouth clean if food gets around the outsides of his lips. He does not want to walk while holding either of our hands. He'll use his walker, the couch, coffee table, benches, chairs or whatever. But he does not want help. If we hold his hands, he pulls up his legs so he doesn't have to. So, he still can't stand up completely on his own, nor walk. With time. I figure that when he makes up his mind to do it, he will. He still loves books, especially the little bath books. He enjoys taking baths a little too much, and whichever one of us is bathing him usually leaves the room soaked. That's why I chose that picture for the top-totally a Henry expression-getting all excited because he gets to get a bath. We're really lucky that he's joined our family.
