Leah turns SIX

The month of May has a lot of birthdays in my family.

Since we just had a big party for Mila we decided to just take Leah and one friend out for her birthday.  Leah wanted to go to Taco Bell, but we talked her in to going to Peter Piper instead.  (Who wants to go to Taco Bell on their birthday???)

We invited her friend Shawnie to go with us.

The peppers wouldn't come out so I took the top of the shaker off.

I forgot, and pulled a prank on myself...  The whole shaker, which was full, came out on my pizza.

It's too bad Carter was off playing when it happened, he would have loved to see that.

Jason had the day off and made her the "pink cake" that she wanted.

Happy Birthday Leah!  We love you!

Leah's Kindergarten Performance

Leah's last day of school was a kindergarten program that they put on for all of the parents, friends, and family.

Leah was so excited about this and talked about for weeks.

She told my aunt Jenny that the last song "would bring a tear of joy to her eye".

It was a good program. Cute, short, and sweet.  Thanks to my family for coming to support her.  I know it really meant a lot for her to see you there.

First grade here we come...

Last Day of School

Otherwise known as... THE BEST DAY OF THE YEAR!  (In a kids' eyes at least.)  I'm still not sure how I feel about it.

Carter got home from school at 1:15.  By 2:30 he had called a lot of friends and cousins; and everyone was busy or didn't answer.  He was already BORED.  Carter arranged for himself to go and stay with Grandma Nelson for a while...

I hope they have the cure for BOREDOM.

Carter's Class Science Fair

On the second to last day of school Carter's class got to do fun science projects.  They made fake snow, lava lamps, soda bottle tornados, and diet Coke/Mentos fountains.

All of this was right up Carter's alley.  He's always doing things like this at home with Jason...

It was a fun time, and maybe the kids learned something...but probably not.

First Zucchini

Our garden is doing really well.

It's actually starting to produce.

Today I picked our first zucchini.

I couldn't even wait until Jason got home from work to show him.... I had it for breakfast.  I can't wait for more, it was so yummy.

So Proud of Myself

I found these flowers on the internet and decided I wanted to make some.

I did these from start to finish ALL BY MYSELF.  Yeah.  I'm proud.

No More Passy

Mila gave up her passy on her own terms last week.

One day for nap time she handed me her passy and said it tasted like "poop" and that I could cut it and put it in the trash.  I was VERY surprised knowing how much she enjoyed her passy, but I jumped on the chance to get rid of it.

Her normal schedule was a nap from 11:30 to 2:30.  EVERY. single. day.  Well not anymore... She now takes a nap wherever she conks out.

I miss the schedule and I'm sure Jason misses her sleeping through the night, (since he's the one that gets up with her), but I'm sure it will get better soon.

My other kids never took a passy, so I didn't know what we were in for when it came time to get rid of it...

I just know her dentist will be happy.  (He tried to talk her into giving it up at her last appointment.)

Raising a Monkey

Since our visit to the circus Carter has tried lots of new tricks on the swing set.

I just hope he doesn't fall on his head...

Jason's Birthday

Jason turned 33 this year.  Yep, I thought he was turning 32...  That's why I put 3 and 2 candles on his cake.  Maybe I should keep better track.  I just know he's younger than me and he's never gonna catch up; dang it.

This was probably the worst birthday that he's ever had.  He came home from work with a migraine.  We made him one of his favorite dinners and he wasn't even able to eat it.

He blew out the candles and tried to enjoy it with the kids, but you could tell that he just didn't feel good.

The kids couldn't wait for him to open his presents.

Of course he got some tools that he needed.

We hope that he had a Happy Birthday anyways...  Not much fun when you have to work all day in the heat though.

Leah's Shark Teeth

Leah had her two permanent bottom teeth coming in way behind her baby teeth.  Since her permanent teeth were so far back it wasn't causing her baby teeth to become loose.

I had a dentist in our ward look at her teeth to see what he thought.

Just as I had thought...  she needed to have her teeth pulled.

Our dentist decided to pull out all four bottom teeth because her baby teeth are so small and her permanent teeth were just going to make everything more crowded.

After her x-rays he said that we should probably be saving our pennies now cause she's probably going to need braces or a retainer as soon as all four permanent teeth come in, and then she'll need them again when she's a teenager.

I've never heard of a person having braces twice, but I guess it's not uncommon.

And so the expensive dentist bills have begun...

My kids are catching on

Most things I buy lately; I buy with a coupon.  My kids have caught on to this.

Carter was working on a project at school involving newspapers.  He ended up with an old Safeway ad.

He spotted some coupons in there and some items he thought I needed to pick up; so he cut them out and put them in his pocket.

When he got home from school he pulls them out and says, "I got you some good coupons at school today." and throws them on the counter.

At least he knows the value in a coupon...  It gave me a good laugh.

A Scary Moment

Yesterday we all went swimming at my mom's house.  Jason, Carter, and Leah were already in the pool, and my aunt was sitting on the edge just watching Leah play.  I was out putting sunblock on Mila.  While I was doing it I received a text message on my cell phone, which was on the table under the patio, so I walked over to get it.  I read it and then went back in the pool area.  As I looked around I noticed that Mila was at the BOTTOM of the pool!  She had jumped in without her floaties and nobody noticed!  I jumped in with my clothes on and scooped her up.  She started coughing and was scared, but otherwise was fine.  I cannot tell you how much that scared me!  I turned my back for 10 seconds, max.  And my life has forever been changed!!  With today being Mother's Day it has meant more to me this year than any other, because I know how my life could have been changed forever yesterday.  My kids mean the world to me, and although I struggle everyday with being a mother, I am so thankful for each of my kids and that everything turned out the way it did!
