Wednesday afternoon sure was interesting here in Jakarta. The triplets and Coach Justin had their first T-Ball practice. We had 9 kids out to practice with the T-Ball Rockies. First on the practice list was running the bases. First base was much easier than I though it would be. However, getting to second was an adventure. Our field backed up to a "machine pitch" field. Three of the kids (including Alex) ran really fast to our first base, missed the turn to second, and continued to the closest base on the other field. After that we enlisted some base coaches for running practice.
Next on the list was batting practice. One of the two experienced players showed everyone how to swing, and then everyone went out to field the ball. After a few hits, the action in the field ramped up. One of the kids bent down to get a ground ball and someone else came diving in after the ball. A scary knee buckle followed. Then there was the dogpile ball with 5 kids in the pile fighting over the ball. Luckily Erin had a great idea to get the other parents to keep the kids spread out a bit. After that, the worst we had was a near shoulder separation. If you saw the first ever XFL run for the ball, you know what I am talking about. The first kid in dove for the ball while the second jumped on him and made him roll badly on his shoulder. I breathed a sigh of relief when he got up and everything was still attached. I really did think about the XFL as it happened.
Saturday is our first "practice" game. All three currently formed (hoping for a 4th soon) T-Ball teams will get together. It is such short notice, none of the teams will probaly have enough player by themselves. Alex and Luke will miss it since they are in Singapore with Erin. They have ENT check-ups and a trip to the "Disney Magic" stage show.

Preschool Yoga
Twice a week the triplets have a PE time at school. Sometimes we will ask what they did during their PE time or they will share with us what activity they participated in. Last week we got news from the boys that they watched a video and exercised during PE time. Upon further probing from Justin and I, they told us that the exercise video was about yoga. Now I don't know if any of you have ever tried yoga, but I was having a hard time visualizing how the teachers were going to get a bunch of preschoolers into these crazy, twisty poses that take some coordination to pull off. So, we asked them to show us the moves they learned from the video. (The triplets actually even referred to their moves as poses.) So here you go...Preschool Yoga.

We Kindly Request the Honor of Your Presense
Can you imagine if your wedding invitation read as follows...
Mr and Mrs
kindly request the honor of your presense at
the marriage of their daughter to
Mr
Saturday, November 10th
at
the local cemetery
Yes, you read right...the local cemetery!! There is a cemetery not too far from our complex that we pass by often when going out the back gate of our complex. This week when we passed by I noticed that a big stage was being constructed in what might be the parking lot of the cemetery. The stage looked like one you might see at a concert. And they were setting up some sound equipment and decorations. I asked my driver if he knew what they were setting up for and he said, much to my surprise, that it was for a wedding!! OK, can you imagine getting married with a cemetery as the backdrop to the ceremony? You wouldn't know if the people in the audience were crying because they were so happy that you were getting married or sad because they were reminded how much they missed their loved one buried in plot B5. And think about the wedding pictures. Weddings and funerals? I guess some people might look back at their wedding ceremony and view their walk down the aisle as a death march. The whole situation just struck me as odd.
But all that said...maybe it wasn't being set up for a wedding. It could have been a concert or a funeral. Just another interesting observation on the streets of Jakarta.

A-TTEN-TION
I have found myself quite busy these days, so I am just now getting around to posting some pictures from Halloween.
Again this year, there was a time organized in our complex for the kids to go out Trick-or-Treating. Despite the rain, about 100-150 kids hit the streets to get some candy. Our complex has become quite the hot spot for Trick-or-Treating since it is one of the few safe places for the kids to walk around on the streets and go door to door without having to worry too much about getting run over by a car or motorcycle AND there were a lot of houses participating in passing out candy. Anyways...
First I will introduce the cast of characters:
Luke, the Polisi
Yes, I spelled it right, polisi. Not police. Here in Jakarta they call their police officiers, polisi (pronounced policey). I remember when I first heard someone call them that. It almost sounded like they were making fun of the guy. Hey Policey! It just sounded wrong. But that is really the name and to be taken seriously.
Jack, JayJay The Jet Plane
We borrowed this costume from our neighbors. This airplane character comes from a children's video series. We have yet to watch one of the movies but I thought the costume was cute no the less. Jack, however, was not too keen on keeping the costume on and mainly just wore it to pose for pictures.
Alex, the Pirate
Yes, a repeat from last year. Took him to the costume shop and he could find nothing else he wanted to be except the pirate he already had a costume for. Saves money, right?
Isaac, the Spiderman
Isaac, like Alex, just wanted to wear his costume from last year. Although this year he would dawn the mask and gloves happily, which he pretty much refused to do last year. I don't have any pictures of Isaac by himself. Just this group shot. The boys in the picture you don't know are the kids' friends Alan, the other Spiderman, and Travis, Barney. They came over to trick-or-treat with us.
