The Climb up AB
This is what we hiked up, through snow up to our hips at times. We stayed right and climbed the ridge line.
Need ropes to get up this mountain.

1st Black Bear of the Season
Luckily, I was dead heading (driving without passengers) back to Skagway and got a couple of pictures of this black bear that just 20 minutes before crossed the highway and walked up the side of White Pass Summit, giving all my passengers a great show. Funny, how much a bear can help raise your tips.

This is Devil's Club. Pretty nasty stuff, but you can actually eat the green bud. It taste like carrots and contains Vitamin C. It's all over the place up here.

Ferry ride to Haines
This is the best pic I could get of the whale. Until I get a better camera or closer shot. I am thinkin I need to take a kayak out into the inlet and see if I can't get a close up. You can see the water blown from the spout.
Trip to Haines, AK
Haines is a small community 14 miles from Skagway. Here they receive approx. 40" of rain a year as opposed to Skagway's 26". It served as a Military Fort during from 1898 to the end of WWII.
Crabbin Boat out of Seattle WA. Not sure what it was doing in Haines.

A shop in town has a challenge of Hiking 16 trails around the area. Lower Dewey & Sturgills Landing are now checked off my list.
Sturgills Landing Hike
Great view of the coastal mountain peaks around here.
The forest ground is covered with really short green plants, lots of moisture in this area. Great place for Fungi.
Lots of different terrain to see on this hike.
White Pass & Yukon Route (WP&YR) Train Ride
This is close to the summit of White Pass.
This is an old bridge they no longer use, now the railroad goes through a cave.

Carcross, YT Bennett Lake
Here, Gold seekers would build boats and float down the Yukon River to Dawson City. That is if they were lucky enough to make it up one of two routes to Bennett Lake, White Pass Trail (beginning at Skagway) or The Chilkoot Trail (beginning at Dyea).
1st Time up White Pass Summit and into the Yukon.
Standing on the Yukon Suspension Bridge.
Tormented Valley, just pass the White Pass Summit (3,292 ft. elevation).

This guy was on the flight since Seattle. No kidding he turned heads, but I think people were thinking "What a joke!" Needless to say, The Locals were not impressed!
