BOO!!

Jeff, Mattie, and I had a fun-filled, jam packed Halloween weekend. We went to a Fall Festival and had a fantastic block party with our neighbors on Saturday, our neighborhood parade on Sunday (my parents joined us for that), and then Mattie's first adventure with "Trick or Treating" on Monday. We really had a blast and can't wait for this time of year next year. Mattie loved every part and walked probably 1/2 a mile in the parade (we couldn't belive it)! On Halloween, she much preferred handing out candy and did a stellar job. We may have gone a little overboard on the pics! We hope you had a fantastic holiday, too!
**Just a side note. We decided to have Mattie be a friendly ghost because she was on a huge "boo" kick. Of course, once I finished her costume, she decided she much prefered to make animal sounds. Go figure...

Fall 2011

We are constantly amazed how fast our little munchkin is growing. She is really a little toddler now and it is absolutely crazy!!!

Unfortunately, Jeff has had to travel more the last two months for work, but we, thankfully, have had been able to sneak away just the two of us as well. We went to Vegas twice in the last three months - once just for a quick weekend get-away, and again in September for a work trip (Jeff was scheduled to be gone on my 30th birthday and I simply could not have him celebrate in Vegas without me). Thankfully, we were joined by our awesome neighbors, and we had a blast. That said, we now need a vacation from Vegas!

We also had a great visit from my dear friends Anna and Preston and their adorable baby boy, Stan. We had such a fun time with them and we were so glad they drove through San Antonio on their move. It’s too bad they didn’t want to stay permanently; It was great to have them in Texas.

Miss Mattie sure is growing up (have I already said that? :). It really blows my mind. She is almost 15 months, but I still have not started her baby book. Oops! So, my only attempt to document her formative years is this blog. So, here are the milestones/achievements we’ve conquered over the last few months that I’m thinking I should be keeping track of! Again, please feel free to skip ahead to some recent pics or click here!

-She has a fondness for animal sounds and has now added monkey and fish (not much of a noise, but she has the face down) to her repertoire of pig and elephant. She will make the noises when you ask (if she is in the mood), when she sees pictures in a book or on tv, and when a song, show, or toy says the animal's name. It is super cute but pretty random. So much for a cow says mooo – I’m sure she will get there someday.

-She loves her dada and will always say his name. He has also taught her to say “dada” when he asks “who loves you?” Adorable, really stinkin’ adorable…nevermind that mama takes care of her all day everyday. She does say mama when she is mad or not getting her way (thinking Jeff must have taught her that too!). She likes to pat mama (yahoo!), dada, her head, and mattie on command. She tries to pat and pet Macy, and will make attempts on command, but Macy is too quick. Macy continues to be very wary of Mattie’s little hands – probably a good idea. She also responds to a lot of requests and will hand us toys, pick different items up, and is always eager to find her “water.” She is SUPER sweet and loves to give hugs, kisses, and sit in laps for brief moments. She also knows where her nose, eyes, feet, hands, ears, mouth, and head are located and loves to point out ours’ as well. She loves to say ”hi” and wave at people and also says “hi” when we greet her to lift her out of her crib or car seat. She will also blow kisses and clench her fists and teeth when you ask if she is “stressed out.” That trick is my FAVORITE! She is pretty good at “performing” on command, but also loves to make us look like fools every now and then when we are in public. Does it sound like she is a new puppy we are teaching to do tricks….at least there are not baby training treats !
-She loves to jibber and jabber and will occasionally repeat some fun words after you (she has said happy, apple, and, almost, thank you a few times – Again, she favors these random words and certainly not any of the examples in the development books – she is definitely developing a unique personality, and we love it. She is saying car, go, and ball – which I assume are normal. We taught her the sign for more, too, to keep her from screaming when she wants more food, and she now will say the word and sign – usually for more French fries!

-She still loves to dance and has really started to broaden her book of moves....to say I am proud would be a colossal understatement. All she needs is music or a verbal cue. I often find her dancing on her own as she sings her own little ditty or when someone says dance in conversation.

-M loves to read books and we are grateful she finds them so entertaining. As her nap schedule has shrunk we have less formal reading time but she frequently grabs a book and initiates it at random. I’m hoping this kid will be able to spell better than her mom, so I’m working hard on the reading!

-The child is crazy mobile. She is a walking/running/climbing machine and is always on the move. There must be a candy fairy that visits little kids at night and loads them up for the next day! She has endless energy. She wants in to everything and MUST touch everything! She keeps me on my toes to say the least.

-She has also started to color! And I use that term VERY liberally. It is really fun. She can now partake of the crayons and placemats at restaurants (even if she can’t order the food off the kids menu). She knows how to hold them and makes marks on paper. She also is in love with sidewalk chalk – thank goodness that stuff is washable and we are grateful our neighbors are all willing to share!

-She is a fabulous eater. Jeff and I only wish we ate as healthy as she does. She is very adept at feeding herself small bites and loves to bite bananas, crackers, etc. She also eats a couple homemade fruit/veggie purees each day. Jeff says they are less than tasty, but, for whatever reason, she loves them and we are grateful, especially since she is allergic to dairy and eggs. I found an awesome blogr I'm in love with - http://www.insockmonkeyslippers.com/ great recipes and Mattie has loved almost everything!

-She has 8 teeth showing – 4 on the bottom, 2 on the top, and 2 more almost halfway out on the top, with some pink puffy molars in the works.

-I’m still incredibly grateful to be able to be home with Miss Mattie and am enjoying and embracing this new role. I miss my work and look forward to returning some day, but I am very content in God’s purpose for me right now. With that said, I definitely appreciate the value of a little break and have started looking for a baby sitter/nanny so I can at least get a little time for myself every once in a while. Not to mention I’m really overdue for some MD appointments and date nights! And, I’d love to be able to start some side projects. If you have any recommendations of someone in San Antonio – PLEASE let me know! Even if it is day a month! I’ll take anything!

-Oh – and the best, ok well maybe not the best, but I’m so excited – we discovered pig tails! I have tried several times and they just haven’t worked or stayed but we are now in the club, and I’m in love. I think my little stinker is pretty cute. It really is the little things!

Mattie's First Trip to the Beach!

We took our first trip to the beach last weekend and WE HAD A BLAST!!!! Mattie loved the ocean, the sand, and the fun pool, and was a super traveler. Jeff and I were nervous since Mattie has not slept well away from home and can be handful in our own house, but she was FANTASTIC and such a doll! She could not spend enough time in the water. We had to drag her out of the ocean or pool every day. We can't wait to go back! Sorry for the abundance of pictures, I am having a hard time cutting some out :).

She is on the move!

So, we have been trying to catch this on video for awhile, but our little munchkin is less than cooperative. Every time we take out a camera she stops performing. Finally, Jeff caught it because he hid in the kitchen with his phone (unfortunately, of course, she is only wearing a diaper)! She is pretty funny with the walking. We laugh because she walks with her arms out like she is doing the moves from the Thriller video. She LOVES to just walk around when she thinks nobody is paying attention to her - usually with toys in her hands.

Really!?!?!.....It has been a whole year!

SJust a warning...this post is a little long. I neglected to write an 11 month update and then we have a TON of pictures we want to share...so, here it goes:

I finally got around to sort through all the pics on shutterfly and pull out a few of my favs. I’m so sad we do not have more pics of Mattie with our adult neighbors (we adore them) and our good friend Uncle David. If anyone has any other pics, please send them my way!

Always happy to share food, just don't ask to play with a toy.

Warming up in the sun after mom soaked her hair trying to get out all of the icing!

Some of our adorable neighbors busy coloring!

Cutie Hudson and his mom Whitney!

Gotta love the Owen's boys. They even managed to have a little fun at the overwhelmingly pink party!

Love these girls:

Megan is just too cute and says the most adorable things. She has come over to "pet" Mattie several times (she use to come over to pet Macy), and she is going to teach Mattie how to pick out cute clothes and wear bigger bows! She also likes to ask "when is Mattie going to grow up?"

Our youngest party guest - precious Clark! The son of my all time favorite nurse, Beth, who took care of me every time I was in the hospital and when Mattie was born!

Love these ladies.

One year update!
I just can’t say it enough, we cannot believe it has been a whole year. Wow! So here are a few notable updates/milestones:

-Mattie still takes a few steps and has been for the last month, but she shows no interest in walking on her own. She cruises holding on to one hand or object, but always opts for crawling after a few steps on her own. She is a muscle machine and loves to do squats all on her own. She will just stand in the middle of the room squatting. It wears me out just watching.
-She has really started talking. She jibbers and jabbers, and even does what sounds like some impressive beat boxing…see the video. She still loves her “Dada,” but now says “Mama”, “Baba”, “Baby” (and she knows she is the baby), and within the last week, “Happy!” She loves to clap on command and when you sing “Happy and you know it.” She says what sounds like “Hi” when she waves or plays with a phone and also says “uh-oh” all the time when you say it, something drops, or when she throws something on the floor (that happens often!). She tries to say “thank you” and has the inflection down, but can’t get the “th” sound out.
-Loves to make the pig snorting sound and “ladal-ladal-ladal.”
-Is a real dancer. She will even push a button on a toy to make music and sway back and forth on her very own. Or, my favorite and she will start to sing in lalalas and sway to her own music.
-She loves her toys, and really loves new ones. A slight clarification - she really likes to throw her toys! She is still VERY active and aggressive! She is a huge fan of knocking down towers made of anything. She also is a “reader!” She loves playing with her books and being read to before each nap and bedtime.
-She loves to be in the water - her baby pool, the big girl pool, or even just the bath. She can brush her own hair and tries really hard to put her bows back in.
-She finally likes the soy milk (which is the only milk she drinks now) and is still a great eater at breakfast and dinner! We can’t wait to have her allergy tested again and keep praying she will outgrow the allergies to Dairy and Egg!
-She is still taking two naps each day and I dread the day we lose one of those. She sleeps from 7:30ish to 7:30ish – thank the good Lord!!!
- She weighs in at almost 19 pounds and is in the 30th percentile for weight. She is pretty lean. She is in the 50th for height and head circumference. We are glad she finally started growing into her noggin!
The most significant change is that Jeff and I are really starting to see a glimpse of the true pressure of parenting. Up until this point we have just been caregivers, but now we understand just a bit of the challenges of parenting a strong-willed child. We are working to educate ourselves and develop our discipline strategy. We love our little girl and her strong personality and look forward to the fun ahead! We continue to pray for wisdom, strength, patience, and good health and are so grateful for the blessings of the first year. Thank you for your continued prayers and support! God Bless!

Here are some other fun pics from the last month:
Sara was in town before Mattie's bday and came over to play!

Practicing her "stink" face and her snorting! What a lovely little lady!

Tricia and Sara had some great play time.

I love this pic!

Mattie loves Sara's keys....she just hasn't seen her car! J/K Sara, I will be so sad when you get a new one - that thing has a lot of memories!

Our girls' night out! So much fun and so needed! I still can't believe we stayed out so late! Thank you so much Tricia and Sara for a FANTASTIC night!
After Mattie's B-day, Jeff headed to Memphis for training and I headed to Austin to spend time with my parents and nephews. Mattie had a ton of fun staying cool in the pool!

I love this pic because she is pointing her toes like a little ballerina!
Just chillin with Cousin Preston - we've decided to call him Uncle Preston now. Preston and Parker were AWESOME with Mattie! They played with her a ton, kept a close eye on her, and were always helpful and entertaining!

Could she get more attention?

Not so sure about the sand at first...

Jeffrey arrived for the weekend and Sarah Boyd's 30th Birthday Party. Apparently, he went straight to work trying to drown Parker.

Daddy feeding her some french fries!

Headed out to Sarah's Birthday!

Yep, that is my child having a BLAST playing in the laundry basket.

We had a fantastic goodbye block party and dinner to wish our lovely neighbors goodbye. Here is a shot of all the kiddos! Love these guys!

Thanks Aunt Melissa and Uncle Mike for the blocks! I love to throw them. Mattie can't wait to meet her new cousin who will arrive within the month!

Mattie loves to give hugs and she is loving on her new monkey from Uncle David!

She is ready to start school next week!

Oh yeah, and we do still have a dog. Poor Macy does still find some time to get attention! However, she is having a hard time with all of Mattie's new toys....I will have to make a trip to pet smart!
