Santa (take1)

Wow, I have been a slacker. December has been so crazy, it is almost a blur. We had a wonderful Christmas and the kids got spoiled. We decided this year that we were not going to buy toys or video games. We wanted the kids to have something that would get them outside and not be a distraction to the family. So we decided on adding a motorcycle to the family. Summertime is pretty crazy and David's work keeps us from going anywhere too far. So the one thing we do like to do is go for 4-wheeler/motorcycle rides. We have a 4-wheeler that I ride. David has a motorcycle, we bought Ethan a 100 this summer, but it is a little big for him. So we told Santa to go ahead and bring the boys a Honda 50. It is perfect for the boys to learn on and I think Dad likes it too. David is going to make a motorcross track somewhere for them this summer. That will be fun!

Santa was kind to us this year, Taylor was so busy looking at his pile he didn't even see the motorbike!

They did not let the snow stop them. They bundled up and went out for a ride!

More to come later~ I hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas!

Santa and Christmas program

Santa made a very special appearance at the ward party. As you can see, Jenna didn't like it. Ethan thought it was a little too funny.
The boys had their Christmas program and they did great. Taylor took it very seriously and really got into the songs. A little girl told him he looked like a lawyer and he really liked this.
After the program he said, "Everybody watch out, excuse me, Mr. Hessenthaler coming through." He is very quick-witted.

Ethan had a part in the 3rd grade play, he was a cousin. He said a song with 3 other girls and I could hear his voice. He did great. He had a little problem paying attention throughout the rest of the play (surprising, I know), but he was pretty entertaining to watch. He said he got stage fright.

Thanksgiving

The highlight of Thanksgiving this year was spending time with our extended family. All of David's siblings were able to come home and spend the break with us. It was a lot of fun, but very busy with a lot of little kids. The grandkids go as follows Miranda (18), Steph (15), Kade (15), Quin (12), Riley (12), Ethan (9), Taylor (6), Jayden (5), Megan (4), Jace (2), Jett (18 months), Jenna (1), Kindle and Kira (11 months), and Janelle (4 months). So that is 8 kids under
5! Yikes, it was crazy! I had my camera, but only took pictures of the twins with Jenna. I guess the rest of the kids were outside, then I got to eating. The babies had fun playing around upstairs, the kids played outside and X-Box, and the adults of course sat around and talked.

Here is Jenna and Kira. Jenna was being a little protective of the remote.

Jenna with her new toy. And yes she already stands like a girl.

Best friends! These babies are only 3 weeks apart. It is so funny to watch them play and notice each other. I am sure as they grow they will be best of friends. We hope Natalie and Kieley will live close so they can play often. Janelle (Brandon and Serena's baby) is only 8 months younger so she will also be fun for the girls to play with.

Baby's First Birthday

Jenna in April at 4 months

Jenna at 1

We have had an extremely busy week. So I am going to try to get caught up with some pictures. On Wednesday, Jenna turned one. I cannot believe my baby is already one. First thing in the morning, I got Jenna dressed in her Birthday Girl shirt and fixed her hair. At Marie's, she had a little party. Marie made cupcakes and Jenna got to eat one on her own. She then gave Jenna a present to unwrap. I am sure Jenna loved this and I am so thankful Marie takes the time to make our girl's day so special. I got off work at 12:30 and we hurried home. Jenna took a nap while I cleaned the house, baked two cakes, and wrapped her presents. She woke up just in time for the fun to begin. We had a lot of visitors (thanks to Thanksgiving). All of David's siblings were in town so we had quite the housefull. It was a lot of fun though. Jenna got a lot of presents and is having so much fun playing with them.

She actually didn't get very messy eating her cake.

One of Jenna's new toys
At one year Jenna: is able to walk (but she won't go very far before she drops down to crawl), started calling me "Mommy and Meemy" when she wants to cuddle, has been given the nicknames "Sugar Cookie" and "Cuddle Kitten" from Mom and Dad, gets excited to see her brothers, and has said "brothers" a couple times, and she loves to dance! If she hears Cowboy Cassanova, or Need You Now she will start dancing like crazy, she has a funny face she makes and will show you her pretty teeth. She is learning new tricks everyday. I love this age! Her personality is really starting to come out! She is still a little love and pretty easy going, but will squeal at other kids if they infringe upon "her" space.
Reflecting back on the year, David and I cannot believe how much happiness this little girl has brought to us. We were happy before we had Jenna, we had our boys, and everything seemed as good as they could get. Then we had Jenna, and what was great got even better. She has really brought our family closer. The boys love their little sister and it has really brought out their softer side. I never knew how much we needed Jenna. I will forever be grateful for the love and tenderness she has brought into our lives. She already has her Daddy wrapped around her finger. It is so funny to watch David with her. He is in total awe of his baby girl. He has always been a great Daddy and is very active with our kids (he gets just as loud and obnoxious as the boys:), but he is so gentle and tender with Jenna. We know our lives will just keep getting better! We love being parents to our three wonderful children!

Cold weather fun

It was actually warm here the last couple weeks, but of course I am behind on blogging so this is from a few weeks ago. There are some things I really hate about cold weather so here they are:
*the mess from coats, hats, gloves...
*the extra laundry (long johns, David's outer work wear, kid's coats..)
*My kids being cooped up without being able to ride bikes and play outside
* Having to layer up to leave the house
*Being cold (I am always cold!)
*The short days, it seems it is always dark!
*Driving on bad roads
But there are a few things I love to.
*David gets Saturdays off (this of course hasn't started yet.)
*The smell of fireplaces
*Fall and winter scents
*The coziness that comes with the season
*The extra family time

So with the cold weather upon us we have tried to be creative on ways to keep the kids busy. (As you know I have a couple hyper boys and one hyper husband) So we purchased one card table and a couple of puzzles and the boys have been very busy. David spent a lot of time putting puzzles together with Grandma Dori so he loves to do this.
I was "dejunking" the pantry one day, and I was tired of storing these cups, so I was thinking of ways to get rid of them. The boys took care of it for me. They spent all afternoon building different towers and Jenna loved to knock them down. Thank goodness she took a long nap this afternoon:)

video

I have one independent little girl. She now likes to feed herself. This is her going from naughty to nice in a matter of seconds. The video is fuzzy cause it was on the wrong setting, but you still can get the idea of what I am in for. Good thing she is so dang cute!

Pumpkin time

I have a million pictures on my camera so I need to do some major back blogging. On Friday night, we carved pumpkins. This is what happened. The boys started gutting their pumpkins (I think this is their favorite part.)
Then they decided sister could help. We sat her on the table so she could watch them.

That lasted a little while then she thought, "I want to try"

"Let me eat it!" "

So fun!

Proud baby girl!

The hard workers

What a fun time!

Halloween parties

Today was our Halloween parties at school. It all started with the costume parade. Taylor was a skeleton. I don't like scary costumes, but he did look pretty cute.
Ethan actually has a surgeon costume and David this Joe Dirt costume was for David, but Ethan just had to wear it. I don't think many kids knew who Joe Dirt was. They all thought he was Billy Ray Cyrus. It was funny!

And Jenna and I were Cruella and a dalmation. She did not like my hair and cried when she first saw me. She loved coming to my classroom party and played with my kids.
Overall, we had a fun day at school though it was EXHAUSTING! The kids left at 1:25, and I had so much work to do but I was so tired.

More sickness

Wow! What a crazy year. We have had sickness like crazy. Here is a recap:
It all started in August when I went back to work and got a really bad cold then:
  • My cold was followed with shingles (lasted one month)
  • Then Jenna got the stomach flu
  • I got the stomach flu (on top of shingles, so not fun!)
  • Taylor got the stomach flu
  • Ethan got the stomach flu
  • Within a day of Taylor having the stomach flu, he got a fever, sore throat, cough (looking back now, he probably had the swine flu) He missed almost a week of school.
  • The next week, Ethan got a fever and sore throat, (no cough- not similar to Taylor's the week before) Took him to the doctor-Strep!
  • 10 days later, Jenna got a fever (going on day 4 and still no sign it letting up)
  • Now, Taylor is home with a cough.

Holy cow, I have missed so much work. Of course, it is David's busy season so he can't really help. It has been so crazy. I feel bad for my class, but I have had a ton of kids absent too. Swine flu has hit really hard and I have had so many kids gone, and for a week at a time. I have never seen anything like this. I went a half of day yesterday so I could check in with my kiddos and they are being so good. They know that Jenna is sick and they let me know that they are very understanding.

I have enjoyed snuggling with Jenna, she has not been too grumpy (only when her fever is spiking). But she loves to cuddle. Last night, I woke her up at 11:00 pm to give her some Motrin. She of course thought it was playtime. So we played a while, then I turned over to go to sleep. She will not just lay there, she has to snuggle. So she got as close as she could to my back and put her arm over me. That wasn't good enough though, she scooted up so she was laying on my head. It was so funny. I turned over and held her in my arms and she wrapped her arm around my neck and gave me a big kiss. It was so precious! We went to sleep and woke up at 6:00 when my alarm clock went off. She didn't wake up at all (she has been waking every 4 hours with a fever). Her fever did come back shortly after waking though. So more Tylenol, and she's good to go again. Hopefully, the sickness will end and we can move on!

Its been a while

It has been a while since my last post. We have had a couple of very busy weeks. Ethan has been playing football and loving it! He had strep throat for almost a week and was a very sick boy. He bore his testimony in church on Sunday for the very first time, and it was all his idea. I was shocked, to say the least, but we were very proud of him. It was very special for us to hear his little testimony.

Taylor has been so funny. He woke up the other day and told me he had a WONDERFUL dream. He said, "I dreamed I was so popular! When I woke up, I said, THIS is a new day, I am a new person." I thought it was hilarious. He must of heard "popular" on TV. He also has started "working out" on my elliptical at night. He gets off and says "Mom feel how much lighter I am. See how much stronger and faster I am!" I wish it worked like this!

And Jenna has just been her sweet and happy self. She is becoming more independent and likes to play alone.

Last but not least, my mother called a couple of weeks ago and said she was ready to receive help for her depression and alcoholism. It was a call we have been waiting for for years now. So she checked into the Rimrock Foundation a little over a week ago. She is doing so well and sounds more alive than she has for years. We went to visit her on Sunday and the kids had so much fun. We played ping-pong and visited for a couple of hours. Then the boys left and my Aunt Nancy and I stayed for family orientation. On Wednesday, I went to family day. It was really hard, but a great learning experience. It helped me understand my Mom and her disease. She gave me a letter she wrote to me and it really helped me forgive her. I feel much better being able to see my mom and I am so hopeful that she will be able to stay sober and get happy again.

So that's what we've been up to, the good and bad. I hope to post more about my Mom's treatment later. It still is a little hard for me to talk about and I am still processing some thoughts and feelings, but I learned a lot that I think will be good to share.

10 Months

Yesterday I took Jenna to the doctor for her 9 month well baby checkup. Her 9 month appointment got canceled, and then silly me, forgot her next appointment. So here it is 10 months and we are just getting her in. Oh well, better late then never! So here is the rundown of Jenna at 10 months.

*She weighs 18 lbs and 3 oz (30%)
*She is 27 inches long (50%)
*She can say No, No, No, and don't, Mama, Dada, Baba, and lots more babble~
*She can stand on her own, all though she hates it. When she realizes she is standing she will squeal at me
*She is already annoyed with her brothers. When they are in her face she squeals at them and will even slap at them.
* She loves to snuggle at night. She will wake up in the middle of the night and scoot closer to snuggle.
*She had the stomach flu for the first time and it was so sad. She puked all night!
*She is becoming more independent and will crawl around and play by herself
*Ethan changed her diaper for the first time (poopy and all!) because Mom was sick with the flu, what a nice brother
*She can "squeeze" when she hugs
*She loves to lay in the grass (wierd, I know)
*She has started to become a Daddy's girl
*Dad watched her for the first time, while Mom went to Billings
Jenna is the happiest baby ever. Even when she has been sick she is still happy. She never gets fussy, and it is very easy to tell what she needs if she is crying. She knows what she wants and will squeal at you to let you know about it, but she is also very laid back and enjoys just watching people. She is such a good baby, I can take her anywhere.
When I am walking up to Marie's (her babysitter) she starts kicking her legs and laughing. When she sees Marie she reaches for her and gives her big hugs. It is so good to leave her so happy and excited.
I really wish I would have blogged or journaled when my boys were babies. They grow up so fast. David and I always say "remember when..." It seems like just yesterday they were toddlers! My sister Twana made Ethan a scrapbook and included funny little phrases and cute little things that he did. I am so thankful she did this for me. It is also very special for Ethan to have something that she made for him. She passed away before she was able to make one for Taylor so I have started, but I am not as good as she was. I just can't believe how fast time flies, before we know it our kids will be all grown up. Sad!

Goodbye summer!

Well the time has come to say goodbye to summer. The days are growing shorter and cooler. I love the changes of the seasons, and I love fall. I love to decorate my home with the warm colors, and I love to burn fall scents. Fall seems to be cozy and makes me want to stay home and enjoy my family. Although I don't really see my husband much due to harvest time, I still love this time of year. Here are some pictures to remind me of how beautiful Wyoming summers are-so in the dead of winter I will remember why I love it here.
This is at my in-laws house-right out there back door. If you have ever looked down at Amy's yard you will have noticed her beautiful flowers. She has a million flowers and we love to enjoy her yard.

And here are Megan's (Brandon and Serena's daughter) precious summer toes. For some reason I love little feet.

Goodbye summer.................welcome fall!

Trials come in droves

Well, I love the start of a new school year, but with it comes a lot of stress. To start a new school year, we all caught colds. I had it for the first two weeks (1 week before students, and first week with kids), now both of the boys have it. I was just finally getting into the new routine, when I got this terrible pain in underneath my right arm. I thought I was having an allergic reaction to my deoderant. After one week , and no rash and with the pain spreading to my back, I started to think I had a pinched nerve in my back. When the pain got unbearable, I started visiting the Chiropractor. A week later, still with no progress, I made a Dr. appointment. So I really went, thinking they would give me muscle relaxers for the nerve. Well it turns out I have shingles. I don't have a rash though, so I didn't think about shingles. But now that I have researched I have found you don't have to have a rash, and it can take up to 3 months to get the rash. The doctor is hopeful, that with the meds I won't get the rash. So I felt better that we know what it is, but a little bit uneasy about the near future. It might be a long road, but we'll get through.
When I went to work today, I had a card on my desk from a co-worker. It was in the shape of a pill and said in big letters CHILL 250,000 MG. A "Chill Pill" I thought it was hilarious. I got an email from my principal that said to let her know of anything I need. And my coworkers brought me much comic relief (which they always do), and my students are just sweet and kind and always make me smile. At home I have got many cuddles from my baby, and the boys are helping with beet harvest (which they absolutely love!) So I do recognize that I have a great support system, and really have nothing to stress about. So here we go on a new adventure, that hopefully won't last too long!

Daddy's girl

Jenna has really started to love her Daddy. She giggles every time she sees him, and cries when he leaves. Today David came home and started to mow the lawn. Jenna was watching him through the front window. When he walked out of her view she started to cry. Being the good mother I am, instead of grabbing her, I ran for the camera.

Saturday morning fun

The boys had a great first week of school. By Friday night we were all very tired. Jenna was still up bright and early on Saturday. At 6:00 she started patting my face and babbling. At least she is very happy in the morning, it makes it very enjoyable. When the boys woke up they, of course were supposed to get their chores done, but they got caught up "farming" instead. They love to play with model tractors and farm their "fields" (rugs). Jenna even got in on the fun. She crawled in their room and was pushing all of the trucks around. It was so cute!

First Day of School

The boys were so excited for school to start. On the way to school Taylor said that his heart was beating so hard he couldn't believe it! Ethan is in Mrs. May's 3rd grade class and Taylor is in Mrs. Morrison's 1st grade class. I cannot believe how big the boys are. We had to come up with a "secret symbol" for I love you this year, so that I don't embarass them too much. Today I told the boys to give me a kiss and Taylor replied, "A kiss? But we're men!"

Each of the boys set goals that they want to achieve this year. Ethan is shooting for Straight A's and no walk and thinks in the first trimester (this will be tough!). Taylor is going for all proficients and no walk and thinks (for the whole year). We'll see how it goes.

Ditch riding

Well, I finished my first week back at work. I have a cold so that was bad, but other than that it went off without a hitch. Jenna loves going to Marie's, so that is nice. The boys have spent their days farming with David. They absolutely love it! Everyday when I get home they have a million stories to tell me. Today David called me and said to meet him at the farm. When I got there the boys were having a blast sliding down the ditch.

David has also really enjoyed watching the boys. He loves it when they come to work with him. Another new development, is the boys have finally started to get along. They love to build ramps and ramp their bikes. (Even though I hate it). They spend hours riding their bikes and swimming together. It is so nice, they have never gotten along or played together without fighting and it is such a nice change. They don't ask for friends over as much and they stay very busy. Hopefully, this stage will last a while!

Here they are playing football:

Cleaning machine

During the summer, Monday is the major cleaning day. The boys have their assigned room to clean and vacuum. The rest of the week they have to keep that room clean. It seems that the boys take turns being good about their chores. Last week, Taylor was a little cleaning machine. He cleaned his room really good, cleaned out the truck and vacuumed it, and he was so proud when he was done. I wish he always was good about doing his chores.
This is his "I am done" smile!

Kiddos

Last Sunday we were actually early for church so I was able to snap a few photos of the kids. I thought they looked so cute, but I may be a little biased!
