Easter!

He is Risen!

Our little family of four had the most perfect Easter day celebrating our risen Lord! I'm so grateful for this day, especially since it will be the last one for many years to come where Easter isn't a work day for Daddy.
For the first time in recent years, the weather was absolutely perfect! After a great morning at church, we came home and Omar grilled us a fabulous lunch. While he prepped supper, the girls and I had all sorts of fun. First, we dyed easter eggs. Both girls did such a great job. It's fun that they are getting old enough to do some of these activities without the stress of trying to keep them from making a giant mess.
Next, they painted a little Easter themed stained glass craft. It was so funny to watch how Sadie just threw some colors here and there while Norah meticulously covered each and every corner in a clear pattern. Can you see the concentration on her face?
The best part of our pre-lunch activity time was making these "Resurrection Rolls" together. We dipped giant marshmallows (representing Jesus) into butter and cinnamon/sugar (embalming oil and burial spices), then wrapped them into crescent rolls (burial linens). After baking them in the oven (tomb), the marshmallow melts to reveal an 'empty tomb.' The girls loved it for obvious reasons, but they really seemed to pick up the concept as well. So fun!
After lunch and rest time, we finally did our Easter Egg hunt. I love how they don't even question that the plastic eggs are filled with raisins and cashews. Wonder how long I can get away with that?!
I don't think the girls could have been any better! Sadie made sure that Norah got all the pink and purple plastic eggs, while Norah ensured that Sadie got the orange and other colors. Sadie also volunteered to hold all the dyed eggs in her basket since Norah didn't want to. Love those sweet sisters!
Classic them! They love their "fierce" faces.
And Omar managed to capture a fabulous picture of me with the girls! This happens every once upon a never, so I'm pretty excited about it. Love that I actually get to be in a picture with my ladies!

When Sadie and Norah Snatch Mommy's Phone

Well hello there! Long time no see. But I'm back...at least for today.

The girls often take my phone and snap a gazillion pictures of everything they see. The carpet, their toes, a coffee cup. Every few days I go and delete all the pictures. Amongst all the rubble, I found this little gem.

Puppies!

Last week we got "suckered" into helping with another Pilots and Paws case. Nine Lab/Golden mix puppies and one adult dog, Starbuck, stayed the night with us last Tuesday before their flight the following morning to Colorado. There, they will be fostered until they find their "forever home." Poor Starbuck was found abandoned in December and needed surgery for a severe injury to his back leg. He is just the sweetest guy, but requires physical therapy to ensure his leg will continue to heal properly and regain function. Arkansas is a 'high kill' state and it is hard to adopt out dogs like Starbuck that need extra help.

We were really quite happy to help! It was pretty hilarious to watch as we tried to juggle feeding, watering and letting them out to potty. Since they all look exactly the same, we had to rotate them in shifts of three to ensure they all had eaten and pooped. Thankfully, Omar's friend Amy (who roped us into this whole adventure) stayed with us and made it manageable. But let me tell you, the whining as they got separated for their shifts could have been heard the next town over. It was intense.

To say the girls were thrilled when they woke up to nine puppies is a weee bit of an understatement.
There are sooo many things I love about this video...
The more I watch this video, the funnier and sweeter it gets....puppies everywhere and always moving, Sadie's fruitless efforts to snag a puppy while Norah silently picks up puppy after puppy after puppy, Omar's quick "Uh Oh" when he realizes that Norah is about to drop one but knows he doesn't have enough time to do anything about it, Sadie's observation that there is yet more poo...

Love it!

They enjoyed the morning with the pups and went with us to load them up on the plane. From the puppies, to the plane, to the goodbye...the whole experience was just so great and we were thrilled the girls got to be a part of it.
We watched the plane take off and the girls thought it was amazing...for about a second. Then the reality that the puppies and Starbuck were gone sunk in and they were pretty distraught. I was rather surprised at just how sad they were. Daddy had to give them lots of love and had to hold Sadie's hand the whole drive home.

Norah's sweet little voice!

Norah stole my phone recently and happened upon the voice recorder. We had a little fun with it and I managed to capture this sweet little sound clip of Norah counting. So sweet!

I love her recovery when she realized she didn't know what number comes after thirteen. So Norah!

Sadie is FOUR!!!!

That's right! Today our sweet Sadie girl turns FOUR-YEARS-OLD! Three was pretty good to us and we look forward to what Four brings! I have to say, Sadie is pretty excited to turn Four, because that means she'll be Five next year (apparently Five will be a big year)! So here goes our annual review of all things Sadie...

Personality: Overall, our Sadie is a happy, bubbly little girl! She is sweet, goofy, curious and playful. She enjoys learning, a good cuddle and still has a love for alll things orange (with brown coming in second)! Sadie has certainly moved past her timidity and will happily tell anyone, anything on her mind. For example, today at the bakery she told every person there, customer or staff alike, that today is her birthday and all the details surrounding the mighty event. However, you never know when she will randomly clam up and become shy. Sadie loves her little sister something fierce and always tries to hold Norah's hand or comfort her when she is sad. That's not to say that Sadie is always sweet and kind to her sister (which is quickly apparent while you hear Norah frantically yelling "Sadie shaaare, Sadie share"). Overall, Sadie looooves to play with Norah and directs her sister into all sorts of fun.
She is generally pretty emotionally competent and can be flexible when plans change. She does struggle with this more when she is tired or stressed and can definitely act her age when she doesn't want to share or get what she wants. We continue to work on our listening skills and some days go to time-out many times until we figure it out. It's a work in progress :) She can become very sensitive at times, but it is hard to predict when that will happen. We've noticed that she's beginning to feel what seems to be shame when we get upset with her or when she make a big mistake. We're working on that one as well to help her know she is always safe, loved and ok, even when she messes up.

And as expected, Sadie is still such a Daddy's girl. So much so, when she gets really excited about something she will blurt out a guttural "Daddy" instead of a typical little girl squeal. They have such a sweet bond.

Activies/Playtime: Now Sadie has never been the kid to sit and play with dolls or act out scenarios with little figures. Sadie is that kid who likes to gather treasures for her special bag, purse, container, halloween bucket, etc. Or set up a whole scenarios for her and Norah to pretend sleep. Or collects all the books in an upside down tent. Or makes a playground with the couch cushions. She also tends to have one or two "special" items that she becomes attached to for a short time. Some of our past items include: an orange empty bubble tube the size of my thumb, a Starbucks 'green stick' that keeps your drink warm, a plastic ring, a sequined pink purse, a small snow white figure, a rolled up receipt that is known to be a 'map.' You never know if she will stick with the item for a couple days, or a couple months. But they always get the place of honor during nap/bedtimes on the edge of her dresser ("So I can see it when I sleep," she says).
Sadie is one of those kids who could sit and watch shows all day long if we let her (which we don't). Her favorite show is Doc McStuffins, as well as Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Go Diego Go and the movie Tangled. In the car, Sadie has to listen to a particular set of songs, followed by an audio version of the God Book. Right now, these songs are (in this particular order): 1. Holy, Holy, Holy (version by Matt Maher), 2. Earth is Yours (by Gungor-main chorus sings 'Holy' several times) 3. After all (Holy) (by David Crowder Band). Get the idea?

Sadie loves books and has several memorized word for word. Her very favorite book to read continues to be her "God book" (Jesus Storybook Bible). She'll often sit for twenty minutes or more absorbing every detail. I love that she has passed this habit down to her sister as well. So sweet. Her poor book though has been taped and repaired so many times, that I don't know how long it will last.

Our Sadie loves to get together with her friends. Her best (girl)friend is Mae, but has several others that are a close runners up. We really miss our neighbor Jack who she played with several times a week. He recently moved far, far away, but we are grateful for all the ways he taught Sadie how to play (he was a 2+ years older and very imaginative). Sadie gets along great with other kids and will make friends wherever she goes!
Sadie may not be known for her athleticism, speed or coordination, but she has certainly improved over the last couple of months. She can now easily balance and jump off the back of a couch and land on two feet. Big improvement :) She still walks toe first...like her daddy.

School: Sadie looooves school (pre-school at our church). She has such a fun time with her little friends and loves her teacher Ms. Jeri. She goes twice a week from 8:30-2:30. I'm so grateful she is so at home there!

Mealtime:
This kid is a pretty average eater. She likes lots of foods, but has a hard time staying focused on the task of eating. Her very favorite snack is almonds with craisins.

Sleep: Sadie really is such a great little sleeper, for which I am very, very grateful. She generally sleeps from 7:30p-7:30a and wakes up happy as can be. She doesn't nap on school days and about one other day a week she will play in her bed instead of napping. When she does nap, it is usually three-hours-long! Amazing, huh? She still has her stinky ol' green blanky with the "toesy holes" she created to hook her toes into. She used to be very bonded to a stuffed rocket and a couple other items over the year, but now she can sleep just fine without them so long as she has her blanky. Before we lay her down, she has to rock while we sing "Going" and "Holy, Holy, Holy." Holy recently replaced, "Adore Him" (Oh Come Let Us Adore Him). She ditched Adore Him just before Christmas. I tried to explain to her it was the wrong season in the church calendar to drop it, but she didn't buy it.

She still sleeps in her crib. Gasp! Lots of friends make fun of me...but she just loves her bed. Only this week did she start to climb out...but she's old enough that she can do it pretty safely. Within the next two weeks, we will move her into a twin bed, which she is pretty excited about.
We love you so very much Sadie! You have brought us so much joy and we pray you receive tenfold as much joy as you've given us!

Crazy Uncle Nick!

We are conveniently located on the route between L.A. and Kentucky, which means that when Nick drives through, he gets to stay and visit with us! We had a great time eating, chatting, eating, watching football, and eating some more. The girls love "Crazy Uncle Nick"...mostly because he is crazy and does such an amazing job playing with them. They spent lots of time jumping off the back of the couch, pretending to sleep and torturing playing with Nick's Great Dane, Nala.

We weren't quite sure how the girls would react to such a large dog. Turns out they love her. Tonight, they spent a lot of time taking care of her when she was "sad" (aka: sleeping). Nala just laid there while she was covered in blankets, pillows and a hat.

One of the best parts of having a blended family are the new siblings you get! Till the next time!

Merry Christmas!!!

This year we got to spend Christmas in Dallas! The girls are loving their time with BeBe, Jedu and Uncle Ramsey...and all the fun presents they opened this morning don't hurt either! We can always count on BeBe to stock them up on some great-quality, long-lasting toys. Thank you!

Omar and I have been very intentional this Christmas season to spend lots of time reading, talking about, and watching stories about Jesus' birth. It makes my heart happy to hear Sadie talk about our big Christmas dinner as meal to celebrate baby Jesus. Love her sweet little heart. We have yet to address the whole Santa thing. Ask us again next year, but this year, Santa is nothing more than another character to Sadie. Santa might as well be Mickey or Winnie the Pooh. Thankfully, she doesn't ask any questions...yet.

Perhaps one of the best gifts we've received this Christmas in Dallas, are the dark rooms the girls sleep in. Let me tell you, these girls are sleeping in...till like 8:30 or later. And Sadie is sleeping in a big girl bed and just comes to jump in bed with us when she wakes. It's sooooo so nice!

I hope your Christmas day has been filled with love, family, good food and gratefulness that Jesus came entered this world as a baby to bring Salvation to us all!

Norah is TWO!!!

Can you believe our sweet Norah girl is two-years-old today? It's so hard to believe, but we sure do love this little girl. We threw a little party for her on Saturday and she had a blast. We are so grateful for our friends who came out to celebrate our 'big' girl!
This girly girl was so excited to wear her 'spin' party dress.
And of course, Sadie had a pre-party spin-off with her sister.
Jedu and BeBe got to come up and join us for the party! Norah is giving him a quick doctor check-up before the party as well!
No matter what I plan, somehow football always sticks its nose in our parties. So we threw the guys into the office to watch the Arkansas game on the little TV.
Sadie loved Norah's party...that is, until the end when she turned out to have a stomach bug. I'm praying we didn't pass it along to any of our little friends.
Seriously, could she be any cuter?!
This year the present opening wasn't too overwhelming. This girl got some fun gifts and some little Minnie and princess dolls. She is way more into the girly stuff than Sadie...
...she's been playing with them non-stop. Taking their clothes and shoes on and off and on and off. And sitting them up on the couch and such. So cute!
While Norah would have liked to blow out her candles, Sadie and Evie ended up getting to them first. Bet Norah will actually care next year.
Turns out I was at the party too :) Thankful our friend Heather was in town and captured some of these photos as well!
 I mean, seriously?
 Loving on BeBe!

Today was Norah's actual birthday and she woke up to a nice round of throw-up. Sadie passed the little bug to her, but she was over it by 10am. So we just enjoyed a low-key day around the house with the family! And Traci pointed out that two years ago, I was sitting in a hospital bed, hooked up to Pitocin, and throwing up as we waited for our sweet girl to enter the world. But it was totally worth it!
