Momma Son Movie

Wanted a date night with my boys. So we went to see Turbo at Watergardens Theater.

It's so fun watching them laugh and get so involved in the show. Plus watching Rhett walk, with his little strut, as the music played and we left the theater made me smile so much. (Plus the fact that candy is sooooo cheap there made all of us so happy!)

Wrestling

As a way to keep things fair, both Kade AND Luke did wrestling this fall.

So every Tuesday and Thursday for a month they had 2 hours of instruction.  I love the program PG does.  The high school team coaches them.  They have one main instructor, then they break off into groups of 3 or 4 with a couple of the high school wrestlers.  It's so great.

The boys got to go to 3 competitions on the Saturdays in October.  They loved it!  Plus, since they had friends doing it too I only needed to drive one week so it wasn't hard on the rest of the family.  They both LOVE the starting game of 'Turkey Tail' and both earned their gray shirt (a way of leveling up).

Julie made a weekend of it and drove down to see the boys wrestle. So so nice.

My parents came one week as well.  Rhett got bored so Dad took him outside to play.  They ended up racing around the track outside until the high school football practice started.  Rhett was pretty sure they were playing soccer so dad had him ask one of the players.  Nope-football it was.

Michael Buble Concert

For Christmas this year Julie took me, Emily and Andrea to the Michael Buble concert! Woo Woo!  It was so so so great!  We all went to dinner first, then to the show. YAY!
This is all of us at the beginning of the concert.  They had an a Capella group open and they were amazing. We didn't know that was what was happening at first and I  MAY have kind of made fun of one of the guys cause he was playing 'air guitar'---but then we realized that all the guys were pretending to play the sound that they were making.  The guy doing the drums was AWESOME!  Each new sound was spot on!

They did great and then it was time for Mr. Buble :)  His voice is amazing and I love everything that he sings!  He was quite the performer sliding all over the stage on his slippery shoes and telling jokes.  The stage floor lifted up and was really fun to watch during the show.  At one spot in his performance he got off the stage, walked from one end of the room to the stage at the other end--BY US!  That was awesome.
He sang, "All You Need is Love" by the beetles and they shot millions of little hearts up into the air all over the arena and the blowers kept blowing the whole song so the little hearts just danced all over....that sounded super lame--but I assure you--it was awesome!
It was an awesome and great Christmas present and I loved it!  Thanks Julie!

Veterans Day Assembly

Kade and Luke were asked to speak in the Veterans Day assembly about Jess.  They told me what they remembered from the time Jess was in service and we put together a little back and forth dialogue for them to do.  (The writting in red was Kade)

When I was just three months old, my dad joined the United States Air Force.

He went to basic training for 6 weeks, where he got lots of shots, haircuts, and uniforms.

He had chemical, biological, and nuclear defense training.  He also had weapons training, and anti-terrorism training.  He heard lots of yelling, did lots of push-ups, and ran lots of laps.  Here he began to learn how to be a very disciplined Airman.

My dad was a linguist—which means he did lots of language translations.  Our family moved to California for a year and a half while he learned his new language. Then we moved to Georgia where we stayed for 7 years.

My dad wore a uniform everyday to work; either his camouflage uniform, or his Blue’s.  Sometimes he left for work when we went to school; sometimes when we got home from school; and sometimes he left for work when we were going to bed. He would work all night while the rest of us were sleeping.

He was tired a lot.  But he never complained about his job.  He just did what he was asked.

We didn’t live on base.  But whenever we went on base to go to the park, the hospital, the grocery store, visit friends, go bowling, or many other activities, my mom had to show her military ID badge to the armed men at the gates to get in.

They did surprise vehicle searches all the time.  They do all this, to make sure that the men, women, children, and information on the base, are always kept safe.

One job my dad loved while working at Fort Gordon, was being the Air Force deployment manager.  That means he took care of all the men and women who had volunteered to leave their families and go to the Middle East.  He made sure they were healthy enough to go, that they had the warmest coats, the best boots, the right weapons and ANYTHING they might need.

Whenever a problem came up, my dad loved that he could always rely on those he served with.  Everyone would stay as long as was needed, and give it his all, until the problem was solved.  If one person was in trouble, everyone else made it his or her mission to fix it.

Last year my dad retired from the Air Force as a Staff Sergeant.  We moved to Pleasant Grove and the military now pays for him to go to Law School.

My dad doesn’t like making a big fuss over anything.  He doesn’t ever brag or boast about his contributions.  He doesn’t like attention; and I’m sure this is making him more then a little uncomfortable.

But my dad served 8 years working to protect those fighting on the front lines and that is a noble work.

I’m grateful for my dad, and for all the heroes in the United States military!

The songs were great and the assembly was nice.  Jess had to go up when the boys were reading their piece which he's not a big fan of.  Julie drove down from Evanston to watch (she's adorable like that) and my parents came.  Kade and Luke did great!

Halloween 2013

HAPPY HALLOWEEN 2013!!!!

Max= Garden Gnome

Rhett=Wolverine

Luke=Spiderman

Kade=Jailbird
(he said he stole all the neighborhood gnomes to keep his brother company.)

For Halloween Jess and I brought the boys around the neighborhood. They did a few blocks and then we came home to watch Ernest scared stupid.  It get's kind of scary with those nasty trolls.  Rhett always tells us that he's not scared of anything.  During the show he said, "Mom, I'm scared of that...." and then in the next scene he was laughing his little face off.

Pumpkin Painting 2013 (I'm convinced painting is 1,000,000% better then carving. Everyone can do it and you can do ANYTHING.  Love these!

Annual Tree Jumping

FALL!  HOORAY FOR FALL!  Still warm enough to play outside, so colorful and brisque and such fun things...

like raking all the leaves so you can JUMP OUT OF A TREE!

Hee Haws and Tether Ball Amazingness

The fam went to Hee Haws this year to have some festive fun.  When we first got there...wow... all I could think was, "this is really kind of sad and pathetic...."  It was quite pricey for not a lot...BUT, then we got started and we loved it so so much! So there you have it.  Here's how it went.

Lil petting zoo section.

Hay ride to the Corn Maze.

My FAVORITE PART was playing tether ball! Who remembers that?! It's amazing.  Plus me and Scott were laughing the whole time cause you can't help but look like Napoleon Dynamite the entire time.  You swing and miss and it's amazing and fun. For real. I want one at my house. So. Fun.

Corn box to play in.

This was super fun too.  Corn Cob Shooting!  There were bells and tires hung up to try and hit or shoot the corn through.  We all loved it!  And no line either.  It was so small scale-ish that one of the kids that worked there (all in the family at this place) came up to use and asked us if we wanted to do it.  Then he brought us over and kept refilling the guns with corn cobs!

Paint balling!  WOO WOO!

 quick note: I know I look prego in this pic...I am not...so...there's that. :)

Super Rhett, written by Kade

Okay--so this is a year old but I just remembered it and I love it.

I was reading Rhett a Dr. Suess book before bedtime (we love that guy).  Kade was listening and decided to write Dr. Suess inspired poem about Rhett so here is his creation:

Super Rhett

Super Rhett is way awesome!
Super Rhett is the man!
He’s so fast you could barely see him when he ran!

He’s as sharp as a needle.
He’s as strong as an ox.
He’s a genius I tell you.
He’s as smart as a fox.

He’s got laser vision.
He’s got super strength.
His body can stretch to a humongous length.

He’s famous in London.
He’s famous in France.
He doesn’t say no’s, I won’ts, or I can’ts.

He’s a rad Super Hero;
Most heroic of all.
If you’re ever in danger, just give him a call.

Kade's Buzz Cut

So, notice that lovely triangular shapped bald spot on this boys head?  It was a gum situation.  Apparently he pulled it from his mouth to his forhead and just sort of stuck it there....really well.  So to fix the problem he just cut it out.
When I told him we'd have to give him a buzz (gum in hair is so simple with boys!) he was awesome about it (he's big on having as long of hair as we will let him).

We stopped half-way to give him an old man cul-de-sac....  You can only kind of see it cause he wouldn't let me get a better shot.  Then we finished it off with the smallest guard and--Wa-Lah!

FALL FUN!

Our neighbors, the Hormans, invited us over for dinner and to watch the BYU vs. University of Utah game.  It's funny because they are HUGE BYU fans.  They always give Jess and I condolences on living with my parents--the "U Fans"-ha!  It's a hilarious rivalry between them.  Always giving cookies with blue M and M's on BYU wins, or my parents stringing red Christmas lights up for the U, or frosting cakes brownies or...fun stuff like that.  It's funny.
It was the first time I really recognized how much Max loves watching football.  He sat on my moms lap the entire time (COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY AND AMAZINGLY out of character for that boy.) We munched on good stuff and...the U won.  So, that happened. :)  But it was fun.

Scott is such a fun uncle for our boys.  He was just outside trying to teach Max how to pump. Cute.

The boys and I went to the zoo with our good friends the Infangers--Val, Jenny and Chris and Robyn  and all the kiddos.  Which was awesome and so fun.  I think there were around 5,000 kids between the 4 families.  I'm always amazed when we walk away from an event like that with no children getting lost.

We were in the primate house and looked into a room were our 2 floors were just one room for the gorillas.  As Rhett and I got closer we saw a gorillas fingers just holding onto the window seal but no gorilla.  Then, so quickly, this gorilla who had unknown to us just jumped from the tree to the wall (they're amazing) popped his head up and scared Rhett and I to death!

One Sunday Kade ran in excited and said they had found a snake and were trying to catch it. Ew!  So I said no, and that was gross...then I remembered I have 4 boys and they do this kind of stuff, and changed my mind and said that I should at least be there so no one got hurt.  I got outside and THEN remembered that I'm a girl and hate snakes...life is funny like that. Anyway--we got a jar and with all of us working together got that little snake in the jar with only rough patch: ( we caught it, then I maybe screamed and dropped the jar a bit letting it go....) But in the end they had an hour of fun with the snake before letting it go.

Making carmel popcorn with grandpa.
