Caleb is 7!!!

Caleb turned seven last week!! He is growing up way too fast. He told me he wanted a spy party so I took the idea and ran with it. I am addicted to Pinterest and it is amazing what you can fins out there.

We sent out invitations for Caleb's friends to come to a spy training academy. When the kids arrived, we issued them a spy badge and of course a weapon....because every spy needs a weapon (they were actually marshmallow shooters).
We spent some time decorating the guns with stickers and markers and then we commenced spy training in which they went through a serious of training exercises to make them spy worthy.

1. Code Breaking: I gave them three different codes to break...Morse code was a little difficult for 6-7 year olds so we helped them out a little.
2. Memory training: I brought out several spy objects on a tray for them to look at for a few minutes and then they had to list them from memory.
3. Pass the Dynamite: I made a fake dynamite with a timer. We set the timer and whoever had it when the "bomb exploded" was out. This was a fun one and they kids took it pretty seriously.
4. Target practice: The kids got marshmallows and tried to shoot the "bad guys" aka balloons with their shooters.
5. Laser-beam Avoidance: We set up a laser course and the kids went through while trying to avoid touching the laser beams.
6. Bomb Squad: We placed a bunch of grenade balloons and the kids got ten seconds to pop as many as they could.

Then we ended with a bomb cake!! All in all, the kids had fun. We were really excited that our friends Katie, Zach, and Hazel from Provo came too! Thanks Katie for all your help getting ready for the party!

Halloween 2012

Gone are the days when I can choose my kids costumes. This year I wanted all of us to be mummies...my kids had other ideas. Eliza wanted to be a nice witch and Caleb wanted to be a leprechaun. Poor Oliver got stuck with a chicken....which, by the way, was so adorable except for the fact that he was mistaken for a girl a few times.

Grand Junction

We made it to Grand Junction! I have to admit I was a little worried about moving from the beautiful green and lush Northwest to a hot and dry desert climate...but I love it here. The thing I love most about this place....the sun!! I never realized how much I missed the sun until I finally saw it everyday. We are loving being in a family neighborhood...loving having a house with a yard...loving the fact that Oliver is not in our room anymore...loving being close to Jason's family. But the thing I love most is that we are not in school anymore! Now, if my family would just move closer I think I could live here forever.

Master's Degree

It is official! Jason received his Master's degree on Thursday and is now a Physician Assistant. We are very happy to have those two and a half years of school over and done with and are now moving on to bigger and better things...Colorado here we come!

Family Reunion in Lincoln City

A week after I got back from Utah and Montana, I left for the Oregon coast to spend a week at the beach with my family. Unfortunately, Jason wasn't able to come with us...again. With sixteen kids in the house...you can only imagine the craziness: A neverending stream of sand in unwanted places, an overconsumption of treaties and junk food, a year's worth of movies and t.v. watched...and some serious cousin time.

Going Solo

Jason didn't have a school break this summer so the only way we were going to see family this year in Utah and Montana was for me to drive down by myself with the kids. I researched online for a couple of weeks and gathered all the best tips and tricks to keep kids happy on the road. Well, thirty dollars worth of candy and prizes and 15 hours later....we made it in one piece with everyone still happy (well, Oliver started going down hill the last half hour). The best tip of all was leaving at 4AM when the kids were still sleeping. We had lots of fun, got way too hot, spent lots of time with family and friends, and realized after the fact that we hardly took any pictures. Even Jason was able to fly in for a few days.

One Year

Oliver turned one...as of two months ago. I am a little behind. He REALLY liked the cake.

Memorial Day Weekend

You may think from looking at the pictures that the weather was warm and the water decent....but no. It was barely 70 degrees and the water was so cold I wouldn't even put my feet in it. Our kids however, had other opinions.

Whatever it takes

I do whatever it takes to get this little boy distracted enough to let me cut his hair. I was even okay with him dragging his sucker through the cut hair on the table....that is, until he decided to share his sucker with me. Let's just say that more than one of us was sticky by the end.

Tiger Cub

Several months ago a recruiter came to Caleb's school and talked to the kids about cub scouts. Caleb came home with a flyer determined to join.  I was a little skeptical of him being genuinely interested but he was so determined he agreed to earn half of the registration fee by doing extra chores (it took him three months!). He has since earned his Bobcat and Tiger badges and really loves going every week.
A few months ago his Pack had the Pinewood Derby. He was very excited about his car that he painted himself. Since he is the youngest in his pack, I knew there would be fancier cars that would most likely beat him. I was praying that he would win just once (only two cars race at a time). He ended up beating his whole Tiger den (all the kids around the same age as him) and then went on to get second place in the whole pack!! The boy who beat him was eleven years old. I don't know who was more excited...him or me. It was a lot of fun and he received two trophies.
