Summer Trains

At the beginning of the summer Dallen started to express an interest in trains. Jeff is a lover of trains, as was his Grandpa Tibbs. So Jeff was keen to indulge in Dallen's newfound love. We have a "train museum" quite close to our home, and we purchased an annual pass! The Colorado Railroad Museum has many fun events that take place throughout the year such as "Day out with Thomas" (as in Thomas the Tank Engine). Very expensive to participate, even with our membership, so we have chosen to skip out on these "extra" events for now- maybe one day.

The museum is only about 10 minutes from our home, so it's great to just jaunt on over to visit for a little while when we have spare time. Dallen and Sienna both really enjoy climbing all over the trains, and even pretending that they live on them! I love their imaginations- they could pretend on the trains for hours- in fact, they usually aren't ready to leave the museum when Jeff and I are ready.

Throughout the summer we have visited several different trains, and I thought it'd be fun to share some of the pictures that we have taken! The first several are from our family's first visit together to the railroad museum...

Can you tell that Jeff is just as excited as Dallen at this point?? They very much share this interest!!
Here the kids are on one of the many cabooses that are spread throughout the park.

I can't hold all the details of these trains in my head- too much train info for me and my brain shuts down, but I can tell you that this is a steam engine, and it is VERY OLD!!
Isn't it insanly crazy how HUGE this engine is?? My hubby not a small man, and he looks tiny next to this monster of a train!!
This looks like just your standard caboose picture, but notice me and Dallen up in the top window?? It was pretty fun to climb up there!!! :)
This is Dallen hanging out on one of the big engines. He was pretty happy, but I couldn't catch him smiling and looking out at the same time... he wanted to be INSIDE the train, not outside.
Now this next picture down below was when we went to Jeff's cousin Melody's wedding in Salt Lake City, UT. The wedding was at "This is the Place" monument, and they have a train there that rides over the property and gives a tour. Dallen was SO very excited!! Actually all of the little cousins were excited. We met all of Jeff's family there, so all of our kids cousins on his side of the fam were at the wedding too! It was great to be there for Melody's wedding, and really great to have all of us together- we just don't see each other enough.
Here we are on the train- from left to right- Taven, Ellie, Mikayla, Sienna, Ginny, Meah(with her head turned), me, Dallen, and Emily. I have long been told of an amazing park down south of Denver called Belleview Park. We had never been until this summer, and I can't wait to go again!! It was about a 40 minute drive, so I can't imagine that we'll go often, but it's definitely worth visiting for a day trip once each summer. There is not only a great playground, but also a covered picnic area with grills, bathrooms, a petting zoo, a small creek to play in, and a train to ride!! Next year we'll take a picnic lunch, towels, and plan on spending the whole day there!

In September I had the great pleasure of watching my good friend Melissa's kids for a few days before she went on maternity leave with her 3rd baby. One of the days that they spent with us, we decided to take them to the Colorado Railroad Museum with us- here is one of the cute pictures from that day. They all had a blast together!

At the end of the summer, I am happy to report that Dallen's love for trains has grown immensely! In the last month or so he's decided that he wanted to "potty train" and as he's progressed we've been giving him little train presents as rewards for different stages. He's been in underwear now for the last 3 weeks, even when he sleeps!! He's doing great! But he loves his "Thomas" and "Salty" train engines so much that he sometimes takes them to bed with him for naps... it's cute... I'm sure that he will share this love with his Daddy, and his Great Grandpa for the eternities!! We just booked our tickets to go on the Georgetown Loop train for the "Santa Express" specialty train!! Can't wait for December 4th!!

Oldies but Goodies

So these are from April, but still definately worth showing! We got a great deal on a backyard swingset from some friends of ours! Here is Jeff's progression of the swingset as it was set up in our yard! We had to buy some new support posts for it as the original ones had rotted a bit, we still need to stain them. The swingset was first set up in the middle of the yard... we didn't intend to keep it there, so before we added much to it, we had to wait SEVERAL weeks to gather up some nice strong men to help move it (Thanks Mike and Marvin!!)! You can see here, that it is just a slide, Sienna is swinging on the tree swing...

Finally after we got it moved to the right place, Jeff was able to add the swings!!
Look at the delight in her face!! What a blessed day! And she can do it on HER OWN!!
Now the canopy is up!! It's complete!
And Dallen quickly discovered that he could climb up all on HIS OWN! Scary for me to watch!! Even though he's been doing this for a couple months now, I still prefer to be close by! He hasn't fallen yet, but there have been a few close calls. He's a big boy though, and does NOT want help!
This is the two sitting at their built in picnic table underneath the swingset! Such happy kiddo's!

Backyard Wildlife

It is unbelievable to me all the different animals we see in our backyard. Not sure what the allure is for them. Last summer we had a flock of black birds that would ALWAYS choose our backyard for feasting grounds. There were about 100 of them at one time, all clustered together pecking at our apparently bug infested grass! The pictures I took of that didn't turn out as I would have liked, it's very hard to see all the birds because of their color and the densness of them. But here are a few pictures I've taken this year of the wildlife we've begun to find...
First, a very pregnant Robin. We had her here for about 2 months. She was always on our porch, maybe for the warmth?? Not too sure. But I DO know that when it would snow, she would huddle by our dryer vent where it was toasty warm. We've not seen her now for about 3 weeks. She's probably tucked away in a nest keeping her eggs warm now, or tending to her new little birds!
We have several squirrels that call our yard home. This one in particular scares me a little... on this day, I really thought it may jump right into our window. It sat and stared at us while we ate our breakfast. Dallen LOVED it, and Sienna was quite concerned for her swing which it was perched just above. I wouldn't let the kids out back while it was so intent on what we were doing.
This picture you may need to take a second glance at... or just look below at the close up...

Seriously? Ducks?? Yes, ducks. We woke up one morning and looked out across the backyard to see these ducks sleeping there. Has anyone else had this happen? I've never heard of such a thing! Dallen was enamored with them, and sat in the kitchen staring at them until they flew away, when he promptly came yelling for us. He was sad that they were gone, but I was happy because again, I wouldn't have been able to let the kids play back there with ducks just sitting there!
We've also had a different Robin stay in our backyard for several days. This one had a broken wing, so it just hopped around and avoided us at all costs. Hopefully it healed and flew away. We do have a cat for a neighbor... We had named the Robin "Bill". Sienna didn't like the name, she thought it should have a "girl name". We liked that it was a "girl" named "Bill"!
Most recently we've noticed that a pair of doves have built a home in one of our pine trees. I've seen them pecking around in the grass on nice mornings, but haven't had a chance to get a picture of them yet. Maybe I'll get a video of them because the "coo" that they make is beautiful. They really are songbirds!
What a wonderful thing it is to have a backyard in which we can observe all of these beautiful creatures! I am so thankful for our home!!

Singles Table formerly known as the Children's Table

Every family gathering has a "Children's Table" right? Well, we didn't think that it would be good to dub this table the children's table because my two adult sisters were at it. But somebody thought it good to call it the "Singles Table"!! I laugh because my children were at it... let me know if you too, think this is funny... :)

Easter Smiles

Here are a couple of Easter pictures I took. Clothes are adorable, and I can say that because I didn't buy them. They were Easter gifts for the kiddo's courtesy of Nana! Thanks Mom!

Can't beat those smiles!

Sienna's Sleeping Habits

Sienna is quirky. We love her quirks. Awake AND asleep! At night when we go to bed, I always peek in and check on the kids... cover them if they aren't covered, and occasionally sneak a cuddle and kiss. Over the last month or so, we've found Sienna doing cute/funny things in her sleep. Here are a couple pics that I've snapped as memories...

First picture- Sleeping in her High School Musical nighttime mask. I promise we did not put her to bed this way... she apparently thought it wasn't dark enough, yet most other nights, the nightlight isn't bright enough for her... go figure...Just precious

Second picture- She likes telling us she falls out of bed at night, yet we've never heard her fall before. This night, we did hear her fall, but she didn't wake up! She just went on sleeping... FYI, we put her back in bed.
That's all I've got for now.....:)

Catching up! First, Caitlin and Jason's Wedding!

I'm not going back to October and posting everything I missed through the holidays, but I am posting a few things from the last month or so! Here is my sister Caitlin on her wedding day! This was January 16th. It was a beautiful wedding. Everyone was calling her the 'Princess Bride'. I agree.
My sweet flower girl!

Jeff, and the lucky groom, Jason.
And the day after the wedding. Here are my two kiddo's with their Great Grandpa Bruce. Notice they're all in their UW clothing. What a great gift from Aunt Marcia and Uncle Joel! Thanks! It was a perfect weekend!

Sienna's haircut

Well. I. finally. caved. Sienna has been talking about cutting her hair for a while. I told her she had to wait until after Caitlin's wedding. The other day she was complaining about tangles in her hair, so I told her we could cut it! I already miss her long hair, but she loves it short. So here are the before and afters...

We forgot to get one earlier, so this is after I started wetting it for the cut.
She kept staring at herself in the mirror that afternoon. SHE LOVED IT!
I have never cut hair like this before. My only previous experience has been on my kids baby hair! This was challenging, and I'm sure not perfect, but on a 4 year old, I think it works!

Some random cute pics

I think Jeff and I have really cute kids. That's about all this post needs to say...

Sienna (obviously before haircut)
We finally caught Dallen's "scrunchy" face on camera!

He did it!

Dallen is forever trying to play with our computer mouse. The other day he grabbed it and ran as fast as he could. He ran to a corner in the kitchen where he thought he was safe. He was a happy boy! Can you tell?

Sienna has the camera

This is some of Sienna's photography. She loves using my camera, and I tend to delete most of her pictures. She likes taking many of the same ones over and over again. Here you can see pictures she took of some new stuffed toys she and Dallen got. She's awesome.
