Well, time to play catch up!

I've been a total blog slacker. Time has just cruised on by! So, quick highlights since I've been away....oh geez looks like I missed pretty much the whole dang year of 2012! Here goes...

January 2012

Enjoyed the annual Christmas tree fire.

February 2012

Joe and I raced our motorcycles in the amateur class Rhino Rally Desert Race. It was probably the most physically exhausting thing I had ever done. (And yes, I'm including child birth with no pain meds) 100 miles of the most challenging trails I had ever ridden. Neither of us brought home anything but a dang good story to tell. I'm thinking I will down grade myself back to novice next time. 50 miles is a lot easier. We shall see.

March 2012

My oldest daughter Averee turned 9.

April 2012

Had a fun Easter and enjoyed spring break vacation camping and riding at Green River.

I started co-ed softball on Friday nights.  Thank you to my wonderful hubby for putting up with my sports addiction. At that time I was playing volleyball on Tuesday and Thursday nights, basketball on Wednesday nights and softball on Friday nights.

May 2012

Celebrated our 10 year anniversary with a day of motorcycling in the cherry creek mountains and going to dinner.m

I went to a specialist for the stomach pains I'd been having for months on Thursday the 17th.  Ended up at the hospital having my gallbladder removed the next morning on Friday the 18th. It was a very easy recovery and I was doing yard work on Monday and back playing volleyball on Tuesday.

We celebrated Clara's 6th birthday on the 22nd.

Went camping out west to Callao over Memorial Day weekend.

June 2012

The big kids were all playing ball. Averee playing machine pitch softball, Hyrum playing machine pitch baseball and Clara playing tee- ball.

I kept busy with caring for my garden and yard and running the kids around to their summer activities while Joe kept busy with traveling for work.

Joe turned 34 on the 21st.

I entered my Suburban in the Spanish Fork truck pulls and took 1st place.

July 2012

Went camping to Fishlake over the 4th.

Went camping to Lake Powell at the end of July.

August 2012

School started.

Harvested my garden

Started fall coed softball

Ran my first 5k. I usually only like to run if there is a ball involved but my friend talked me into it.

September 2012

I turned 31.

Registered for The Park City Pink Half Marathon. The thought of training to run 13.1 miles when I had only run a 5k was daunting. Especially with only 6 weeks to train.

Ran the Dirty Dash 10k. So much dirty fun. Decided it would help me work up to my marathon.

Emmett turned 4.

Found out I was pregnant with baby #6!  Due June 5th 2013.

October 2012

Ran my first half marathon at 5 and a half weeks pregnant and dealing with morning sickness. Ran it in 2 hours and 45 minutes.  Dealt with freezing cold temps, icy rain, a twisted ankle and a strained hip flexer. It was brutal and such a fulfilling moment in my life.

Went on the deer hunt. Hyrum turned the big 8 during that trip. Joe had the tag this year and I helped him track down a spike to shoot. Good times.

Kids had a fun Halloween.

November 2012

Hyrum was baptized and confirmed by his dad. It was a special day.

We had thanksgiving dinner with my inlaws.

Went on the Christmas tree hunt. Found the perfect tree after a bit of hiking.

December 2012

Fielding turned 2.

Finally announced that we were expecting another baby.

Enjoyed a fun Christmas with family and playing in the snow.

January 2013
Had the Christmas  tree fire.

Found out that #6 is a GIRL!

Performed a vocal duet in church with Averee. My mom accompanied on the piano and my bro Ammon accompanied on the violin. We put together an arrangement of Childs Prayer and Walk Tall You're a Daughter of God.

February 2013

Well, now I'm caught up! Phew, I don't know if I'm cut out for blogging!

Song #6- Blessings

Here's a rough edit of my latest song called Blessings! I enjoyed writing this one a lot. I think that anybody and everybody can relate to it. May each of you look for and find the blessings in your life! : )

Song #2 - How Strong You Are

This is the 2nd song that I finished. And might I add, Averee's favorite. Hope you enjoy!

Song #1 - These Are The Times

This is the first song that I wrote with lyrics. A couple years ago I decided to challenge myself and see if I was any good with words. At the time, I was serving as secretary in the YW's and we had just gotten the new theme for the year, 2010. It was Joshua 1:9 - Be strong and of good courage, be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed, for the Lord is with thee withersoever thou goest. I was sitting at the piano and happened to glance at the cute little hand-out that with the theme on it. So, this is where the inspiration came from. After many tune changes, this is how it turned out. I recorded the piano part on my phone then loading into garageband on the computer. Then recording myself singing the lead, then backup tracks. The rest of the instruments I wrote in garageband. There's still some timing and editing that could use some fine tuning, but overall, I'm happy with the outcome. It'd be fun one day to record it in a professional studio, and maybe find a better singer to sing it for me. : ) Hope you find it pleasant enough.

Santa's Gift- watch the video to hear my 3rd attempt at amateur song writing

I finished writing a Christmas song at 4am Christmas Eve morning. I'd been working on it for a couple weeks but the busy-ness of the month put me behind. But I wanted to finish it before Christmas. So I stayed up late. It's not perfect, but I thought it'd be good enough to share. I put it to a slide show of my kids and their Christmas holiday so far.  I'm not the greatest of singers, especially with this song because it's a bit too high for me, but I hope that you all find it somewhat pleasant. :)  I've always loved writing music on the piano and a while back decided to see if I was any good with words. It's been a fun little hobby for me and I don't know if I'm really any good at it, but I enjoy it! I'll try to remember to post my other 2 songs that I've finished sometime soon. Merry Christmas to you all!

My Fielding Boy is 1!

I can't believe it's already been a year since this sweet little chunk of love came into my life! It's been a wonderful year and I can't imagine how it would have been without him!  I'm so blessed to have him! I just wish that he could stay a baby for a bit longer.....

Deer Hunt 2011

The deer hunt was full of fun! It was beautiful weather! We deserved beautiful weather after last year! We spent the first few days just camping and riding and celebrating Hyrum's 7th birthday. He loves that he usually gets a deer hunt birthday! It was my turn to draw a tag. Joe and I try to take turns so that there is someone back at camp to be with the kids and someone that gets to hunt full time. And since I'm usually pregnant every other year it works out for the most part! The hunt started on Saturday morning. I got up at 7am and hiked to the top of the mountain behind our camp and the sun started to rise at around 7:30. Saw a bunch of hunters and a small herd of elk but nothing there. The leaves hadn't fallen off the scrub oak bushes yet this year, so if the deer didn't get pushed out there was no way to see them. So I hiked down about half way and and hiked across through the brush for an hour. Nothing. So I headed back down the mountain to my 4-wheeler and decided to drive the trail around Lions Peak. Saw nothing. Drove over to the mountains on the other side of camp. Hiked all through those. Saw nothing. By then it was 2pm. Went back to camp to grab some more water and a snack and headed out again. Went to Buck Mountain where I shot my first deer 5 years ago. Hiked around there. Saw Nothing. It was getting cold and getting dark. I headed back to camp. Decided to switch to my warm coat and headed back down the hollow behind camp for one more look at the hillside before dark. I couldn't believe that I hadn't even seen any doe or fawn all day and was bummed out. But about 3/4ths the way down the hollow I spotted a deer in a small clearing about 170 yards up a steep hillside with its head down feeding. I turned the 4 wheeler off and put my scope on it hoping it would put its head up. It did and it had horns! My heart started racing! I jumped off the 4-wheeler to shoot it, but realized when I did I wasn't tall enough to see it anymore! So, I kinda broke the law and got back on the 4 wheeler and cocked the gun. The deer had put it's head down and turned his body to where there wasn't a good view of where his heart would be. So I aimed as close as I could get to the heart and fired! I saw the deer stumble into the bushes. I raced up the steep hillside remembering that if I went straight up that the deer was in the second clearing. But the problem was that the bushes were so thick that I had to literally blaze a trail. There were parts where I was crawling on my hands and knees to squeeze through tiny openings. My gun and clothes kept getting caught on branches and twigs, but I finally made it! The deer was gone, but I found one splash of blood to the left of where I had shot him. I went a few more steps and found the deer collapsed in a bush. It was a nice 2 point. This is when I was so excited that I yelled out loud "Wahoo! I knew I got ya!" (When you are all alone and excited you have no choice but to talk to the deer.) He still looked like he could be alive. So I shot him once more in the neck just in case. Then I had to deal with yanking him out of the bush. This was so hard! (once again I admit I talked to the deer, asking him several times to just come on out of the bush) I grabbed his horns and pulled with all my might. Each pull got me maybe an inch. The deers legs kept getting caught in the bush. But I kept pulling and finally the weight of the deer gained momentum and he slid out. The hill was so steep that after it was free from the bush that I had a hard time getting the body to stop rolling and sliding. But finally I found a spot where it kinda stayed. I got out my knife and surgical gloves and started gutting him. But I only got about 1/4th the way done when I ran completely out of day light. I had to get help. I had not choice but to shove the bloody knife in my pocket. Then I yanked the deer about 15 feet to a clearing that seemed to have a better path down the mountain. I took off my hunting vest and threw it up in a bush above the deer, grabbed my gun, coat and supplies and started hiking/stumbling/falling/rolling down the mountain in the dark to my 4-wheeler. I'm not gonna lie to ya, it's very hard to hike down a mountain in the dark! I was on my feet very little through this event. After about 15 minutes I had made it to the trail. I took off my surgical gloves and hung them in a tree on the side of the path to mark where I came out. I jumped on the  4-wheeler and raced back to camp. When I got there I asked who would like to go on a special, night time, search and rescue mission for my deer. Joe said, "I heard those shots and just knew it was you! You always shoot your deer right before dark!" So a bunch of us grabbed flashlights and Joe grabbed his revolver just in case a mountain lion wanted a to snack on my deer, and we headed back down the hollow. Using the markings I'd left, we all hiked back up to the deer, which was still hard even with flashlights to light the way. We decided that it'd be easier to haul the deer down first, then to gut it on the trail because it was so steep. I finished gutting it (with some help from my dad who taught me a much easier way to do it)  and we put it on the 4-wheeler and took it back to camp. Funny that it took a took 10 hours of hiking, covering 80 miles of trail on the 4-wheeler and a total of 12 hours for me to shoot the one and only deer that I saw all day and, of course, it was in the same place where I had started.

It was quite the adventure and adrenaline rush! It wasn't until the next morning that I started to notice all the cuts, scratches, scrapes and bruises that I collected from the experience. Not to mention the sore muscles! It was so much fun and I can't wait for the next deer hunt adventure!
