74. I let what people say and do to me affect who I am. For example: A couple of weekends ago, I was at a birthday party. It was time to eat and Joe was tending to the kids so I thought I would be nice and make his plate for him. I made him a burger and put some chips and salad on his plate and when I set it down a woman there (remaining nameless) said, "Did you just make his plate for him?" Flustered, I said, "Yeah." She said, again, "You just served him his dinner?" Again, I said, "Yes." Then she just shook her head like 'obviously-she's-submissive-to-her-husband' and that was the end of it. What? I can't be kind? My mom put it this way: "It's the same thing as your husband going to start the car for you on a cold morning or bringing you your slippers." Couldn't have put it better myself.
