Happy Birthday Jack

It's been 12 wonderful months since that blessed day Jack joined the Gochnour family. Jack has brought so much joy into our life and we are so blessed to have him.

A little bit about our little Jack:
1) Yesterday Jack walked all the way across the living room and acted like it was no big deal
2) He knows the sign language to: milk, please, more, all done, and eat. His passion... FOOD!
3) Melts mommy and daddy's heart every single day
4) Sucessfully can make a mess out of anything and everything
5) He gives lots of hugs and kisses (especially to other baby girls)
6) Can go up and down the stairs NO PROBLEM!
7) Loves to put on any shoes he can find... all by himself
8) His favorite foods are: chicken, fruit of any kind, and mommy's milk
9) His "new" middle name is TROUBLE!
10) Loves to Dance to: a)Lullabys (trying to get him to sleep), b) as soon as the organ starts playing in church, c) to any song on the radio. I'm not sure where he gets his dancin skills!
11) Says "momma" all the time
12) Loves to play with other kids. Very social little guy.
13) LOVES to play with Daddy. As soon as Jack hears his Scooter pull up, he hurries over the the door to greet Daddy with a big smile.
14) When he was 3 weeks old, he had been in 3 states: Arizona, Idaho, Utah.
15) When he was 5 months old, he had been in 5 contries: America, Germany, Austria, Bulgaria, Czech Republic (And he has a very cute Passport Photo, 6 weeks old)
16) By the time he turned ONE, he had been to 21 states plus the District of Columbia. He's quite the little traveler!
17)He's just so dang cute.
We love our Jack and all the adventures he brings every day.

I am still very sick! Dr. said it was the flu, although he did find some fluid in my right lung. He doesn't think it's Pneumonia and assumes I'll be over it sooner rather than later. Lets hope so becuase I sure am ready to be better. Anyway, as soon as I'm feeling better we'll be able to give him a well deserved Birthday Party! Until that time, Happy Birthday Jack! We love you so much.

Mommy's sick weekend!

Please do not judge my mothering skills by this post you are about to read :-)
I was so sick this weekend with fever, cough, cold, chills, throbbing headache, etc... My sweet husband in focused 100% on finals (as he very well should be) and I didn't see him from 7am-7pm on Saturday. Here are just a few of the MANY things Jack got away with becuase Mommy couldn't move off of the couch. Just as a side note, we don't even own a TV (who needs one when you've got Jack as your entertainment?) Anyway, I just sat on my couch, staring at the Christmas tree, wishing my mom could come over and make me chicken noodle soup.
He loves to get into my wallet and pull everything out. I hope it's not forshadowing years to come... as a big spender!

He usually just pulls everything out of this drawer under the stove because he realized that if you throw them on the floor, they make a loud crashing noise! Just what I need to go with my already throbbing headache. This time, he wanted to extend his couriosity a little further!
All over the kitchen floor. Need I say more?

Off camera moments included pulling our fake 4 foot Christmas tree over (that was stacked on boxes purposfully so he couldn't reach it), finding the gallon ziploc bag of animal crackers and so lovingly inhaling as many as he could before I came and took them away... Needless to say, the house was a complete disaster when John got home. We went to bed and when I woke up Sunday morning, both sinks of dishes were done, I could see the carpet again, and Jack was fed, diaper changed, and happy as could be. I have the best husband! Thanks so much babe.

New York City Highlights

We went to NYC for Thanksgiving this year and had a BLAST! We went with our good friends (The Pelfreys) and they have cousins that live in Manhattan. Where he is doing a Phd in biology (we even got to see his real lab!). Anyway, there were 6 adults and 3 babies camping out in a one bedroom downtown Manhattan apt. It was so much fun. We had a dream weekend and felt like we were in a movie. Doing all the things that are done in the movies! For example...

My darling boys at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade

This is a dump truck that was parked on the street. About 30 minutes after the parade started the truck was competley full of people whether they were inside the bed of the truck, on the hood, or standing on the tires. There were over 3 million people trying to watch a parade that is only 2.5 miles long... That's more than one million people per mile!

The Rockefeller Tree and the famous ice scating rink at Rockefeller Center. The Today show is filmed just a little to the right of John. Unfortunately the tree wasn't lit, but it really is magical to be in NYC around Christmas Time, there is just something in the air. Right after this we strolled down 5th Avenue. Making stops, of course, to see the zip code of amazing shoes at Sak's, the Louis Vitton handbag store, and the Disney store. It was so fun to see the people with their shopping bags and dream of the day when someday we might have a real job that pays money...of course we probably will never shop at Saks but it never hurts to dream right.

Times Square at night time was amazing!

We got to see the REAL Santa Clause at Macy's Department Store the day after Thanksgiving. I am pretty sure it was the real one. (1) he lives in Santa Land, (2) his cheeks are like roses and his nose like a cherry, and (3) his elves took this picture with our camera so we didn't have to pay the $50 to purchase the one they did. This is all the proof I need. Although we did miss our families horribly, it was a very fun Thanksgiving weekend.

Mr. Personality

The varied faces of "The Beautiful boy" (as John calls him!)

There is nothing like having your own kid! Who wouldn't love being a mom when you get to hang out with this kid all day?

Campus Highlights

Welcome to Duke Campus
This is the shrine to Duke Basketball. Home of the Cameron Crazies, of which John is proud to be one. Look for him with the big blue D painted on his rippling six-pack during the upcoming games! :-)

This is the Law School... where John lives during the week.

Not only are there a billion trees here, but they are all GORGEOUS colors right now. This one doesn't really do justice. I can't believe I lived so many years of my life in a place with only 2 seasons... hot and hotter. Don't get me wrong, I love Mesa, but the changing leaves are so fun. I LOVE the fall!

Duke Football

There's just something magical about football in the fall (with the crisp air, the leaves are changing colors, the smell of hotdogs and popcorn)... We are missing Cougar football so badly, we just had to go to a football game. Lets just say, we really missed the cougs after this game (no crazy fans, no "Rise and Shout, the Cougars are Out", no Max Hall) but we still had a lot of fun. We'll just let Duke stick with their sport... basketball, which we are VERY excited about.
Jack couldn't take his eyes off of the cheerleaders! (Following in his Daddy's foot steps!)

We are officially Duke students... we ALL own Duke hoodies. It was so sad to see such an empty stadium, but at least we got really good seats walking in a little late!

Natalie and Ethan Pelfrey (Jack's best friend) with Melanie and Jack.

Both of our husbands are in their first year of law school so we share the pains of being a wife of a "first year law student". They're getting into finals. Poor John... 12-14 hour days.

Jack's 4th Haircut

First thing on our list of "Must Do's" for this Saturday was to give Jack a much needed haircut. His hair was a solid 3 1/2 inches long from roots to the end. On Friday, he turned 11 months and this is his 4th haircut. Although I haven't given many haircuts in my life... I've got a life time to learn! Who better to practice on then your wiggly 11-month-old, right? I'm a little scared to even try John's... I don't know much about curly hair.

He's found the chocolate!

So, Jack thought he'd be real sneaky and get into the Halloween candy a little early. At least he was "eating at the table" right? More like "hiding" under the table!

"NO MOM! GIVE IT BACK" He's really passionate about his food.

"Please... can I have it back!" He thinks maybe if he does the cute scrunchy nose face, I'll give it back. Not a chance kiddo.

Happy Halloween

MOOOOO! Our little moo cow was "mooing" all day long.

Thanks to John, we got our pumpkin carved this year!

Our little cow with his other friendly farm animals. We found a hen, goat, and a sheep at this kids museum. Don't worry, those eggs he's chewing on, are plastic.

I took my cute nanny kids to a kids museum on Halloween. They had all kinds of games, story time, costumes... Savannah was a fairy princess, Jack was a cow, and Jacob was a dog.

THE GANG
We are all in the same ward and live in the same apt. complex. It is so much fun!!
(top) Lora Lee due in Feb., Lindsey and baby Hailey, Ariel,
(bottom) Natalie and baby Ethan, Melanie and baby Jack, Brianne and baby Isaac.

We had a very fun "chili" party at our house with very yummy chili and tasty treats! Peanut butter fingers, pumpkin bars, apple cider, carmel popcorn and apples... the works.

The Pumpkin Patch

Jack LOVED the pumpkin patch!

Jack was very helpful in picking our pumpkin this year... Which ever one rolled the furthest was his favorite! He got really excited when two of them would crash together!

Mommy and Jack with the final pick. (He was mad I picked it up, he wanted to keep rolling it around!)

Sunday at Ethan's

We love being here in Durham! Thanks to the great friends we have made, we've hardly had time to get homesick. This is one Sunday afternoon with the Pelfrey's (Eric, Natalie, and Ethan). Eric is also a first year law student and thier son, Ethan, is a week older than Jack. Natalie and Melanie have a good time together.
Jack in the Johnny Jump Up. Big smiles for Mommy!
Ethan and Jack hanging out!

The North Carolina State Fair

While to John's dismay we missed the Cassia County Fair and Rodeo this year, at least we had a chance to go the North Carolina State Fair in Raleigh. It was awesome! Over a million people visit each year to see things like pig and duck races, look at the state's biggest vegetables and of course eat fair food. Here in North Carolina they like everything fried. Fried candy bars, fried peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, fried twinkies, even fried Coca-Cola... don't ask us how they do that. It was a blast!

Mommy and Jack with the new state record setting pumpkin. It weighed in at a whopping 1,178.9 pounds.

Jack and daddy with their fair "snacks".

Jack is trying to figure out a way to get around John's head to go for the deep fried snickers bar. You know your in the south when the candy bars come deep fried!

Our Nation's Capital

For John's 25th Birthday we went to Washington D.C. It was awesome! We got to spend time with some good friends, remember our fabulous few months living there last summer, and of course, show Jack the Mall!

John, Jack, and "uncle Joe" Preston, one of John's best friends from Burley. He is working as an intern on Capitol Hill. Jack had so much fun with Joe, he loved giving "hugs" to someone besides mom and dad.

Campout!!

Every year 2000 crazy graduate students spend 36 hours camping in tents, RVs and U-hauls, for the chance to be placed in a lottery to win the opportunity to purchase Duke Basketball season tickets at full price! That includes being randomly checked in every 15 minutes to 2 hours to make sure nobody goes home. Although John made it all the way through campout he still didn't win tickets...not only that, but he can't wait for next year!!

Living it up in Durham

Hey! We just want to keep everyone informed of all our adventures in Durham, N.C.
