Take Me Out to the Ball Game

April marked the beginning of the T-ball season. From the beginning despite the busy schedule (three weekly practices followed by seven weeks of two games each) we found T-ball entertaining. Our favorite scenes have been: 1) Seven kids from the same team piling on top of each other in hopes of getting the ball, 2) Kids hitting the ball then standing at the plate watching the other team’s efforts to retrieve it, 3) A kid throwing the ball to the first baseman who continues staring off in the other direction, and 4) Gavin being so into his conversation with the opposing baseman that he doesn’t notice it’s time to run to the next base.

Arwen has been Gavin’s number one fan, attending every one of his games. Her favorite activities are hanging out on the playground with the other player siblings and climbing the backstop.

Gavin’s enthusiasm for the game and the team interaction has him looking forward with great zeal to next year’s season.

We Went to the Woods

Perhaps not so deliberately, but on our way home from the Boston Temple we decided on a drive through Concord on our way to Walden Pond. Passing scores of uniformed Boy Scouts, we couldn’t figure out what was up till we connected that day’s date with the actual skirmish at Concord on April 19, 1775. It would have been fun to stop for the reenactments except for the congestion.

At Walden Pond we hiked the perimeter, telling the kids about Thoreau’s stay, stopping to examine the site of his cabin, and remembering our last visit there nearly nine years ago. Chad also got some great shots of the native vegetation. After our jaunt Gavin and Arwen played in the sand and took a quick dip in the frigid water. On the way home we enjoyed a tasty meal at Panera – a real East Coast find.

Other recent happenings:
Snack time is an important time, with Cows and Cones opening for the season and the usual healthy cookie breaks at the park. Wrestling in the back yard and snuggling with Giraffe on a Sunday afternoon are two more of life's current pleasures.

Happy Easter

Our first very own Easter egg hunt in our new yard! We wore the silly smiles of enchanted parents as we watched Gavin and Arwen delightedly gallop around the yard searching for those hidden bits of color.
