revisited our single days via an adult dinner and dance at church (childcare provided!). I had almost forgotten what it’s like for the two of us to talk with other adults together without constant interruptions and missed snatches of conversation. It was great seeing our friends get down on the dance floor and doing a bit of it ourselves - probably for the first time in eight years.Saturday morning Chad tended heart-shaped Surprise Flapjacks while I pulled out the real maple syrup and spray whipped cream (an all-time favorite combination at our house). Then we got down to the serious business of decorating
Valentines cookies, which we later delivered to neighbors we hadn’t seen since the Christmas goody run.I’d been eagerly anticipating our family dinner, hoping the kids would be as excited as I, and I wasn’t disappointed. As Gavin watched the ambiance taking shape he ran up to his room to retrieve the bow tie he wore to a wedding as a baby.
Arwen made a trip to the dress-up closet, and I pulled out a long- neglected fancy dress and rhinestones. We sat down to three courses Italiano style which we savored to the strains of Chad's romantic playlist crafted especially for the occasion. We finished off the night with a visit to the Gales Ferry community center where the neighborhood sponsored a family dance. After half an hour of hopping around in our formal attire and watching the kids run up and down the stairs we were ready to head home. A great family Valentines Day!
