So, this week, I was asked to sing that song from Sound of Music, "My Favorite Things." They asked me like a week before. It would've been fun to put an ensemble together (and less scary) but it ended up being more scary thinking about the practicing with others to pull it off, figuring out harmonies, etc. so I just sang it myself.
Then I looked at the words. What the freak is "schnitzel with noodles?" I ask myself. And really, "wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings" may be a pretty sight, but it's definitely not my favorite. So, because I'm super dorky, I came up with a second verse. Mind you, this was for the Relief Society Activity (the birthday one), so I made it R.S. appropriate and wrote a few things that would get a few laughs from all...
Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings
These are a few of my favorite things
Cream colored ponies and crisp apple streudels
Doorbells and sleigh bells and schnitzel with
noodles
Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings
These are a few of my favorite things
Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes
Snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes
Silver white winters that melt into springs
These are a few of my favorite things
When the dog bites
When the bee stings
When I'm feeling sad
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don't feel so bad
Coconut cupcakes and anything chocolate
Husband that cleans and keeps crafts in the budget
Relief Society Presidency
These are a few of my favorite things
Family Home Evening and scriptures on Monday
Baby that turns 18 months on this Sunday
Making a meal for a sister in need
These are a few of my favorite things
Neighbors and sisters and friends that just stop in
Babies with humongous bows on their noggins
Kids that are tied to my apron strings
These are a few of my favorite things
When
I can’t get onto Pinterest
When
I’m feeling sad
I
simply remember my favorite things
And
then I don’t feel so bad
So now my posterity can see how dorky I am. But there were a few laughs, and it made it worth it :) Besides that, I also witnessed a mini miracle in my life...seriously. The activity was held on Wednesday night. Tuesday night I started to feel a sore throat coming on. Then Wednesday morning it was a sore throat and a massive headache. I took ibuprofen and prayed really hard because I knew I had to sing that night and a sore throat wouldn't exactly facilitate the process. Oddly enough, the sore throat went away by mid-morning.
Chalking it up to just a cold/sore throat, I went to the activity and sang, etc. That night, I got the sore throat again, and it did NOT leave this time, and the next morning I scheduled a dr's appt. Yep, it was strep. I'm pretty sure that prayer made a difference because the sore throat doesn't just go away like that. Antibiotics I started yesterday morning take it away :)
Now Claire has an ear infection. Poor thing. Quite a week! Glad Anya hasn't come down with anything. Crossing my fingers!! And I hope I didn't infect anyone at Relief Society!!
