Accidents!

One week ago, I got a call from the school saying McKenzie had had an accident at school. Apparently, she was playing chase with some kids at school. She was bumped by another child while running at full speed and she took a header into the black top. When I got there she was in tears. She scraped up her face and her knee. Unfortunately, she also chipped her two front teeth (these are her brand new permanent teeth). She was in tears, not only from the pain, but she was upset that she had black asphalt all over her new clothes (we hit the clearance racks at Limited Too for the first time). Of course this happened when Dr. Clark was closed for the day but thanks to Grandpa tracking him down, we were able to be seen in the office. They could not be fixed right away because her teeth were too sensitive. So, they put some stuff on them to make them less sensitive. We go in Wednesday to have them reshape her front teeth with filling material. The good news is she doesn't need crowns but the bad news is she will have to have them rebuilt every ten years (or sooner depending on her growth and other variables) for the rest of her life. On a side note, I got her clothes clean which made her a lot happier.

Mom Test

My aunt sent me this story and I thought it might make you laugh.

The Mom Test

I was out walking with my 4 year old daughter. She picked up something off the ground and started to put it in her mouth. I took the item away from her and I asked her not to do that. "Why?" my daughter asked. "Because it's been on the ground, you don't know where its been, it's dirty, and probably has germs", I replied. At this point, my daughter looked at me with admiration and asked, "Momma, how do you know all this stuff, you are so smart." I was thinking quickly. "All moms know this stuff. It's on the Mom test. You have to know it, or they don't let you be a Mom." We walked along in silence for 2 or 3 minutes, but she was evidently pondering this new information. "Oh...I get it!" she beamed, "so if you don't pass the test you have to be the Dad. "Exactly," I replied back with a big smile on my face.

Family

I attended my cousin' s missionary farewell today. They had a dinner at their home last night. As I was driving home last night and also as I reflect today, I have realized how extremely grateful I am for my family. My mom's family has always been close. I see my aunts, uncles and cousins (and now their families) every couple of months. It is usually at a farewell, a shower, a baptism or a wedding. They do get together two times a year, once for a summer picnic and once for a Christmas party(each of my grandma's seven children take a year) as well. It does not matter that many are a lot younger than me because every time we get together, I always feel accepted and loved. There is always the feeling that they genuinely care about my family and our well being. It is nice to know that in a world where there is so much turmoil that my family will always support me. Now, my extended family is not perfect and I could fill many blogs with all of our dirty laundry, but at the end of the day I am so grateful to have a family who cares.
