LOOK AT HIS HANDS
When you walked by the casket this morning to pay your respects, I hope you took a moment to look at Grandpa's hands. If you did, I hope you were able to see beyond what age and arthritis has done to those hands today to see all that those hands have been.
Those are the hands of a Marine who dutifully did the unthinkable in war so that his country could remain free and strong.
Those are the hands of a man who encircled his wife with love and who faithfully carried out the duties of husband and protector.
Those are the hands of a working man who worked hard to provide for his family and understood that a good job was a blessing that wasn't to be taken lightly.
Those are the hands of a man who spent hundreds of hours building part of his own house so that his family could have a beautiful home with plenty of room for friends and grandchildren.
Those are the hands of a man that spent hours every week on the steering wheel of an A Farmall so that his property would serve as a private park for family and loved ones.
Those are the hands of a man who worked in his workshop to turn raw pieces of lumber into beautiful keepsakes that will always be treasured.
Those are the hands of a man who gently lifted his children onto his shoulders when they were too small to see over the crowd. They are also the gentle hands that brushed away tears and picked his children and grandchildren up when they stumbled.
Those are the hands of a man who hooked up the wagon for his grandchildren to ride in and who started the lawn tractor for them when they were big enough to ride on their own.
Those are the hands of a man who worked on go-carts, cars, motorcycles, cars, and houses for his kids, even when he was really too tired or too sore to do it.
Those are the hands of a man who held his grandchildren and then his great grandchildren in his lap and always found great joy in the time that he got to spend with them.
Those are the hands of a man who till and tended a garden much larger than he needed for his own family and then delivered the excess to countless friends and co-workers.
Those are the hands of a man who held his Bible and Sunday school quarterly every Saturday night for decades so that he was prepared to lead his Sunday school class.
Those are the hands of a good man, and today, those are the hands that have reached out to touch the very hands of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Thank you for joining us today as we celebrate all that those hands have been
