Jacob is 3 months old!!!

Jacob turned 3 months old on Friday. JF and I celebrated by going and buying baby clothes. Well, to be honest, I did the shopping by myself. JF was at home cooking dinner and lending emotional support:o) I was so excited to do this- I had never bought baby clothes before, other than an occasional set of pajamas for a friend's baby. Once I got in there, I panicked a little. How many onesies does he need? Does he need shoes? Do all baby's pants feel like sweatpant material??? Thank goodness for cell phones and my sister who walked me through the whole situation with no pain. I got him several onesies, although he will def need more. I bought Jacob his first pair of cargo pants! All in all it was so fun.

And when I came home and brought the clothes into his rooom, I nearly cried I was so overwhelmed with joy. We have a baby boy who will be home in November, if all goes well. The courts are opening in just over a month and we can't wait! Come home little boy, we love you!

This post would be more interesting if we had our camera, but my folks actually have the charger and we are going to see them next week- so things should be looking up. We will pics of the nursery then up as soon as we can! JF built the bookcase yesterday which was the last piece of the puzzle. We have to sand and seal it and then we are pretty much done! We have been busy with that room- but I love it.

Hope your Labor Day weekends aren't too labor intensive:o)

Bad Bloggers!

Since we have learned about our son, Jacob, ( I LOVE SAYING THAT) things have been a little hectic in the Bertrand Household. JF got home around 1am on Aug 8th. My sister Jan and her husband Jeff, and their three kids Brendan, Lauren, and Ethan arrived around 3pm on the 8th, as did my parents with their dog Darby, and more baby furniture than I thought our house could hold! It was so fun and chaotic and crazy! (Everyone got to look at the pictures of Jacob and agreed that he is a handsome little devil.) Poor sleep-deprived JF was such a trooper and made pizza with the kids for dinner that night. Here is a picture of one of the chefs!

The next morning, we somehow managed to drag ourselves up before 6am so we could get to the Cape without dealing with hours of traffic. Once we were there, we were able to relax. In fact, we had a mermaid sighting!

I love this picture of lovely mermaid Lauren!

But we only had a few days there before we were back to our place to get cracking on Jacob's room. No rest for the weary! Sorry, JF! We painted the room this delicious buttercream yellow and set up the crib and got the rocking chair in place. JF was so cute and said, "This color is the color a baby's room is supposed to be." I could not agree more! I am hoping to have pictures of it posted in the next day or so.

Our next task was to go through all of our things and downsize. We have to make some room for Jacob's things!! It was a rough couple of days for JF who hates to throw anything away, but I am proud of him and feel like we accomplished a lot! But there went our Friday!!

Saturday my brother Brian, his wife Jenn and their two little ones Miles and Ella came to visit! They had a wonderful baby giftbag for us which held the cutest little onesie that says Here Comes Trouble! amongst many other gifts. Sadly, we lost the battery charger to the camera, so I have no evidence of their visit. But Miles and Ella are sweet as can be and we were so happy to see them!

We capped off our family vaca with a visit from JF's parents. They brought diapers and baby hats (wait till I get you the picture of those!!). We will be able to donate those baby caps to the orphanage and the hospital, so we are very grateful for them!

At any rate- that is why you have not heard much from us. We are so thankful for all of the kind emails and comments that we have gotten. We feel so loved and supported by friends and family and are just basking in the glow of it all!

OH BABY!!

Well, yesterday was the day of days! JF was coming home finally and I could not wait. When I woke up, I popped out of bed because my man was coming home.

Around 2pm, I got a phone call from Radu. He asked if I was in front of the computer, there was a question with one of our forms. My heart sank. I KNEW there was going to be something that I messed up b/c we switched agencies. So I open the file that he has sent me, only there is no form. There is a picture of OUR SON. WE HAVE A TWO MONTH OLD SON!!! And let me tell you folks, you WISH you could see him because my little man is the cutest bean to ever have sprouted!!! JF was, of course, in the air already, so there was an excruciating amount of time before I could talk to him and tell him we were parents. But we are as of yesterday!

Sadly, our referral came after the courts have closed for the year. They will not re-open until Oct 1st, so we will not even have a court date assigned until they do. This means we have two months to get our acts in gear! We (yay! JF is HOME) are setting up the nursery next week. And so, we passed a major milestone yesterday. There is more joy in our hearts than we can begin to express. Little Jacob, we love you forever already!

I need to give a special shout out to Vicky, Vanessa, and Tara. They helped me figure out how email and the phone worked after I opened the referral and was promptly rendered incapable of thought and action. They helped me dial the phone, helped me email my doctor, help me stand, and helped me celebrate!

For those of you who are not familiar with the process, JF and I are not allowed to post any pictures of our little Jacob until we have the court date. So right now, we are in a holding pattern until the courts open up. (But rest assured, he is handsome, plump, and a genius. According to the paperwork, he already says, "eh eh". JF insist that means he is a Canadian at heart.) Once we get a court date and get through court, he legally becomes our baby. We will get a travel date shortly after and be traveling to Ethiopia to get him.

As I have already said, we are SO grateful and overjoyed and awestruck by our new little blessing.

Mission: Underwear is fun to wear

As I am sure you already know, we are adopting from Adoption Avenues, an amazing agency outside of Portland, Oregon. Our baby will be coming from Toukoul Orphanage in Addis. It is an amazing place! http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x25gun_letoukoul_tech Sadly, they are in desperate need of underwear for the children. JF and I have made it our mission to bring packs of underwear to these very deserving little ones. Your mission, should you chose to accept it, is to help these kids by buying a pack of underwear. Please mail it to me at Harvard School of Public Health/ 665 Huntington Ave., BLDG 2 Rm 307/ Boston, MA 02115. You can chose either boy or girl sizes 2 years to 10 years old. Please help us help these kiddos- who doesn't love new underwear?? We would be happy to list your name as a contributing member so the orphanage is well aware of your generosity, and JF and I would be eternally grateful. That counts for something too, right? Thanks so much in advance! Every little bit helps!
