Project 366 Day 305: October 31, 2012

If you're still out trick-or-treating, come on over. We haven't had many trick-or-treaters, so we have a lot of candy left. Happy Halloween! :) http://flic.kr/p/dpzWQD

Project 366 Day 304: October 30, 2012

Not much happened up here with Hurricane Sandy, but we still had the day off. I took Maggie and PJ bowling and to lunch, and tonight we carved pumpkins. For years now I've been trying to outdo myself with my pumpkin carving projects, and I think my Kermit the Frog is one of my favorites ever. Although I must admit I was a little rusty, since last year we didn't get to carve pumpkins because of Storm Alfred! http://flic.kr/p/dpkw2G

Project 366 Day 303: October 29, 2012

My mom got me this Halloween cupcake kit last year. I was going to make cupcakes the day before Halloween and use these. But, of course, Halloween never happened last year. Because we're running the risk of losing Halloween again, I decided it was now or never on the cupcakes. We did a lot of baking today so we'd have some good stuff for when the power goes out! No exciting weather photos...yet. We'll see what happens tomorrow. Bring it, Sandy..... http://flic.kr/p/dp1LdX

Project 366 Day 302: October 28, 2012

This is the shelf where they sell the bottled water in the grocery section of Target. As you can see, it is pretty much cleared out (with the exception of some sparkling water and some of the expensive stuff, like Fiji and Pellegrino). The bread section is similarly bare, and the juice box section is getting close. This is the result of everyone getting ready for Hurricane Sandy, which is due to touch down in CT on Monday or Tuesday. Most school and workplaces are closed these next two days. We'll see what happens...but how freaky is it that we're getting another one of these storms exactly one year after the last one hit??? http://flic.kr/p/doH8G9

Project 366 Day 301: October 27, 2012

There is nothing more fun in the Fall than jumping in piles of leaves. Jack and I did just that today, before Hurricane Sandy comes and takes all the leaves away. :) http://flic.kr/p/dokrYY

Project 366 Day 300: October 26, 2012

When I was walking back from lunch today, I was surprised to see this holly bush outside of my office building. I don't know why I never noticed it before. I took a picture of it today because, at day 300, I'm kind of shocked at how fast the year's going by. Christmas will be here before we know it..... (Does this rationale make sense? It does in my head.) http://flic.kr/p/do7bAC

Project 366 Day 299: October 25, 2012

For some reason I've wanted to take a picture of a "No Parking" sign for a while now. When I took photography in high school, I remember that one of the first pictures I took was of a "No Parking" sign. For my foreign friends, this is one of the few instances of a city bus stop in a non-major city... http://flic.kr/p/dnSxJb

Project 366 Day 298: October 24, 2012

I never realized until today that there was a giant spelling book hanging in Blue Back Square (West Hartford), and I never realized until today that this giant spelling book is why Blue Back Square has its name. I'm glad they went for something interesting to name it after than to just name it "Noah Webster Square"! (Go Google "Noah Webster" and "Blue Backed Speller" for more information...) http://flic.kr/p/dnzMgM

When I was in school (especially in middle school), I thought that riding the school bus was Hell. I'm guessing that it's especially true for the kids who ride this bus. ;) http://flic.kr/p/dn35dp

Project 366 Day 295: October 21, 2012

As usual, Sundays are for cooking. Tonight I made a very easy and very delicious chicken pot pie with a Bisquick crust. It was very easy to make - I'd totally do it again! http://flic.kr/p/dmJaPM

Project 366 Day 294: October 20, 2012

Maggie, PJ and I went out and about in Windsor Center today, which included a walk down by Loomis Chaffee. The weather was gorgeous and so were the colors. I've been waiting for a picture of the leaves like this! http://flic.kr/p/dmjiW1

Project 366 Day 293: October 19, 2012

I'm getting a little too familiar with I-84 traffic lately. It seems as though there's always a delay whenever I'm on it, but there aren't many better ways to get to work! Anyway, on my way home today, I was stuck in my usual block of traffic in the same spot, just a few miles from my exit. As soon as the traffic started to break up, this song came on my iPod: "Hallelujah," an old Israeli song by a group called Milk & Honey. And just as it reached the big ending of the song, I was free from the traffic and made it to the exit for I-91. Talk about coincedence! "Hallelujah" was the 1979 winner of the Eurovision Song Contest. Look it up on YouTube if you don't know it :) http://flic.kr/p/dm7RyF

Project 366 Day 292: October 18, 2012

This is the picture that I meant to take yesterday. Charter Oak is an online college, so we don't really have a "campus." There is one small building that mostly houses staff, and one building down the street where the HR and IT folks are located. But the main Charter Oak building is located in the corner of the Central CT State University campus, so we get the benefits of a college campus without it actually being our campus. Long story short...this is the student center. I never understand the mishmash of buildings that can exist on a campus. One building can be all lovely and old-fashioned, while another can look like the Guggenheim in Bilbao. But this is pretty cool. http://flic.kr/p/dkThDL

Project 366 Day 291: October 17, 2012

I had a subject for my photo all picked out, but then I left the scene of the photo and forgot about it! So here we have some lovely Fall mums. Flowers are always my go-to subject when I need a subject in a pinch, but it's cool to see how the flowers change over the course of the year. http://flic.kr/p/dkCq5w

Project 366 Day 290: October 16, 2012

I've had my eye on this Kate Spade bag for a while, but could never justify spending $368 on it. Well, I waited and waited, and it went into clearance. Add to that the fact that I got a coupon for joining the mailing list, and I ended up getting this bag for over 60% off. I feel like one of those extreme couponers! http://flic.kr/p/dkmp95

Project 366 Day 289: October 15, 2012

One of the unexpected skills I have picked up from working for the state is the ability to recognize the word "Delay" from a great distance. Every day, without fail, the delay in either direction stops at my exit! To be fair, though, today's traffic wasn't so bad. Google maps says the route from my house to Charter Oak is just over half an hour, and it took me about 35 minutes. Not too shabby... http://flic.kr/p/dk58Et

Project 366 Day 288: October 14, 2012

I think I was some kind of kindergarten teacher in a past life. I get excited about stickers and school supplies and those pencils that teachers give out for good behavior and things like that. So it was no surprise that I got excited today when I found some of my old stickers among Maggie's things when she was cleaning up her room. What will I do with these stickers? I have no idea. http://flic.kr/p/djHnVW

Project 366 Day 287: October 13, 2012

Not much to report today. Spent the afternoon with PJ - I took him to the grocery store, where we had sushi for lunch. Here he is this evening with a Spiderman pumpkin he got last week. http://flic.kr/p/djrz8T

Project 366 Day 286: October 12, 2012

Even though my commute is long and tedious, I love catching a glimpse of the Capitol Building every day. I actually had an even better view a little later on, but the traffic was too good then for me to get a shot. :) http://flic.kr/p/dj7SN6

Project 366 Day 285: October 11, 2012

In the Spring and Summer, my filler pictures were of flowers. In the Fall, it looks like my filler pictures will be of gourds. Here's one we bought the other day - I love the shape and the stem! http://flic.kr/p/diSXPg

Project 366 Day 284: October 10, 2012

This cracks me up. I found out today that when people find this stone bunny out in the bushes in front of my work, they hide it from each other. Someone told me about it on the way in, and then I caught someone else moving it. I will have to keep an eye out for it from now on! http://flic.kr/p/diGyi2

Project 366 Day 283: October 9, 2012

(I wrote this all and then couldn't upload, so this is a condensed description!) I always liked this view onto the Central campus because it looks like just a bit of a college peeking out from behind the rest of New Britain, to remind you, "Hey! There's a college in here!" I should explain that while Charter Oak is *on* the CCSU campus, it is not part of CCSU. It is a college in and of itself! http://flic.kr/p/dingNH

Project 366 Day 282: October 8, 2012

We got to spend the day with Jack today, since most people had the day off but Kelly had a meeting. We took him out to Friendly's and then to Brown's Harvest. He loved every minute of it! What cracked me up is that he calls pumpkins "apples." Here he is with the giant "apples" right when we arrived at Brown's. http://flic.kr/p/di16QL

Project 366 Day 281: October 7, 2012

As usual, Sundays are for baking. My first foray into apple crisp. It had a little too much nutmeg, but it was still delicious - and even better when I put caramel sauce on it! http://flic.kr/p/dhDHir

Project 366 Day 280: October 6, 2012

My mom and I went to the craft fair in the center of town today. This is the fountain on the town green, which I've always liked, and was more picturesque than the fair itself. :) http://flic.kr/p/dhmGg1

Project 366 Day 279: October 5, 2012

I started my new full-time job today at Charter Oak. It was pretty cool and I can't wait for things to get going. I'm also going to be doing some contract work for UConn for a while, so I will be a dual-employed state employee. I don't know why I like to complicate things! It's kind of funny that for both of my ID cards, I ended up wearing the same outfit. Fortunately, you can't really see it in the Charter Oak pic! http://flic.kr/p/dhb6jp

Project 366 Day 278: October 4, 2012

I needed new glasses and sunglasses for my new job that starts tomorrow (!), so I went to Lens Crafters today. For many years, I always had crappy prescription sunglasses that didn't look like cool sunglasses - they looked like prescription glasses, tinted brown. Today I decided I would splurge and get cool sunglasses, so I ended up with these. The people who worked there kept telling me they were from Coach's new line and they *just* came out, so I guess I made a good choice. Yes, I took this picture myself. I took it with my iPod, which is why it sucks. :) http://flic.kr/p/dgNTki

Project 366 Day 277: October 3, 2012

I had a few photos lined up for today, but I decided to go with one that was more visually interesting than a "what I did today" kind of shot. This was the display window of Louis Vuitton at the Westfarms Mall. I didn't go in, but I took it because it reminded me of an octopus, and was probably the only hint of summer in a place that was already starting to get ready for Christmas! http://flic.kr/p/dgz1rA

Project 366 Day 276: October 2, 2012

Today I bought a Trapper Keeper folder at the grocery store. I didn't need one - it was totally an impulse buy. But I was happy to see they haven't changed a bit. I remember the first Trapper Keeper I owned, when I was in second grade. It was one of the basic ones - red with blue trim. It was probably the last one left in the store that didn't look like it was for a boy. And I think I covered it with stickers to make up for its boringness. But man, I was so excited to have a Trapper Keeper that year. I am such an '80s kid. http://flic.kr/p/dgdSop

Project 366 Day 275: October 1, 2012

In February, I did a closeup photo of candy hearts. Now that it's October, it's time to repeat it with candy corn. http://flic.kr/p/dfUqjx
