Project 366 Day 335: November 30, 2012

I can't believe it's going to be December tomorrow. These boxes are full of Christmas decorations - not just ornaments, but actual decorations for the house. We go all out for Christmas every year! http://flic.kr/p/dxxkjV

Project 366 Day 334: November 29, 2012

Well, I didn't win the half a billion dollar lottery again, and I'm pretty sure I didn't get one of the runner-up prizes. But I get to cash in the change jar soon, and that feels like free money - even though I it was my money to begin with :) http://flic.kr/p/dxhH58

Project 366 Day 333: November 28, 2012

I don't see the allure of taking pics on an iPhone or iPod. This is the clearest photo I've ever taken, but its only like an inch away. Posting because it's kind of cool, though... http://flic.kr/p/dx8vuu

Project 366 Day 332: November 27, 2012

The Christmas lights are up at our house. This was the first night I drove home to find them on, so I had to take a picture. The first photo came out lousy, so I decided to make it abstract. :) http://flic.kr/p/dwU1kE

Project 366 Day 331: November 26, 2012

Some things are not meant to happen or exist. Pajama Jeans for dogs is one of them. But somehow, they still do. One of the joys of this project is that I can provide photographic evidence of things you might not believe otherwise. Aren't you glad for that? http://flic.kr/p/dwDqdG

Project 366 Day 330: November 25, 2012

I took Maggie to Yogurt City in Enfield today. They had some trippy murals on the walls - I include them today to add some visual interest to the album. http://flic.kr/p/dwi6a9

Project 366 Day 329: November 24, 2012

Today we had our "second Thanksgiving": since we usually have our main dinner at my aunt's house, we do a second dinner of our own so we'll have leftovers. But my favorite part of the night was the Uno Tournament. As usual, it ended up with all of us scheming against each other and laughing like crazy. All in all a great evening. This is why I love Thanksgiving - it is so much more relaxed and low-key than holidays like Christmas and Easter. http://flic.kr/p/dw4bzE

Project 366 Day 328: November 23, 2012

I didn't do Black Friday shopping this year, but I did the other thing everyone does on the weekend of Thanksgiving: I met up with old high school friends at the Union Street Tavern. It was great to see some people I hadn't seen in nearly 15 years, and we spent a lot of time trying to figure out what happened to different people in our class. I'm not posting the group picture we took because I didn't take it. Instead, I'm posting this sign I noticed above the bar and had never seen before: "Welcome to the Union Street Institute for Cognitive Research." Well, that's *one* way to describe the place...:) http://flic.kr/p/dvM3td

Project 366 Day 327: November 22, 2012

Sorry I'm so predictable, but what did you expect for a Thanksgiving picture? This guy clocked in at over 30 pounds, which is about four times the size of Roxy. Happy Thanksgiving to all! Now the sprint to Christmas begins..... http://flic.kr/p/dvxb8m

Project 366 Day 326: November 21, 2012

On my way into Hartford on I-91, I noticed that someone had stuck some signs up on the overpass (walkway?) just before you get off for I-84. As I got closer, I discovered what it spelled out: GIVE THANKS. So I figured that was an appropriate photo as we get ready for Thanksgiving tomorrow. Happy Thanksgiving, folks! http://flic.kr/p/dvcCVv

Project 366 Day 325: November 20, 2012

When I get on the highway on the way home from work, there is a music shop on the corner called "Daddy's Junky Music." I love the name and have been trying to get a photo of the sign forever. This is probably the best I'm going to get for a while, so there you go. http://flic.kr/p/dv4uvE

Project 366 Day 324: November 19, 2012

I needed new work clothes, so I stopped off at the Avenue on the way home from work. They were having an awesome sale, so I made out like a bandit. $70 dresses marked down to $24.99? I win. http://flic.kr/p/duLEnQ

Project 366 Day 323: November 18, 2012

These two Wiffle Balls are in the trunk of my car. I spotted them today when I was buying groceries. I think we brought them to a pool party this summer, but I have no desire to put them away at the moment. Seeing them in my car as we get so close to winter is a nice reminder of summer! http://flic.kr/p/duq2S8

Project 366 Day 322: November 17, 2012

A few weeks ago, I posted a photo of the bare shelves in Target where the water was kept. Now, these bare shelves in Target are where the Twinkies were kept. Ever since the news that Hostess was going out of business, people are panicking that they will not be able to get Twinkies any more. As you can see, all of the Hostess products were cleared out, except for a couple of boxes of mini muffins on top, maybe two small packs of mini donuts and maybe two packs of those orange cupcakes (I don't know anyone who eats those). I wonder how this sudden surge in Hostess sales will affect their overall sales or financial status... http://flic.kr/p/dugV5R

Project 366 Day 321: November 16, 2012

Once in a while, when I get tired of Subway or Dunkin Donuts, I walk down to the student union on the CCSU campus for lunch. Part of the cafe is called "Semester's," with signs that make it look like it is some kind of old-fashioned pub. I found out today that it actually was a pub once, back when it was legal to drink at 18, and it was #1 seller of alcohol in New Britain. I loved the college bars when I was in Oxford, and it feels kind of weird to know that kind of thing wouldn't happen in the US. I imagine a pub called Semester's would be kind of cool, in a geeky way. :) http://flic.kr/p/dtQz5p

Where the hell did this year go? And how did November fly by so fast? How can it be only one week until Thanksgiving?!? http://flic.kr/p/dtJbP1

Project 366 Day 319: November 14, 2012

I like the lampposts in the parking lot at Charter Oak. Here is the base of one, mostly because the other picture I wanted to do today didn't come out. Every time I see something cool at Charter Oak I think, how weird is it that some students will go here for years and never see the college? http://flic.kr/p/dttfxo

Project 366 Day 318: November 13, 2012

I had something else completely in mind for today's photo. But then I decided to take the scenic route home (through West Hartford Center rather than on I-84), and I changed my mind. I've never seen clouds such a shade of red before...and was never in such a good place to take out my camera! http://flic.kr/p/dtbRUN

Project 366 Day 317: November 12, 2012

I know yesterday was technically Veteran's Day, but since most schools and companies observed it today, I will observe it today here. Both of my grandfathers served in the Army in WWII - my mother's father in the Pacific, and my father's father in Europe. My mother's father, David Howard Sr., is 93 years old. He and four of his brothers all fought in the war, all in various parts of the world...and all five returned. This picture is of my father's father, James Walsh Sr. He is about 18 years old in this picture. He made it back too, but he passed away in 2006. I don't know what you say on Veteran's Day..."Happy" Veteran's Day sounds weird, so I guess the best thing to say is Thank You to all those who gave their lives, who served and continue to serve our country. http://flic.kr/p/dsSQbZ

Teeny Etch-A-Sketch. They had these on the table at Get Baked today. After I took this and left the bakery, I kinda wished that I had written something on the Etch-A-Sketch before taking the photo, but I still like it. :) 50 days to go! http://flic.kr/p/dszeYX

Project 366 Day 314: November 9, 2012

The highlights of my day were as follows: 1.) Trying out the new Frozen Yogurt place by my work, Froyo World. Yes, it's November. Yes, there's still snow on the ground. It was still great. 2.) Fixing a building block in Blackboard and getting it up and running. This one made me happy because I'd been waiting for weeks to get it fixed. The former is more photogenic than the latter, so there you go. http://flic.kr/p/ds2LKb

Project 366 Day 313: November 8, 2012

So two days before the big snowstorm, my wonderful little electric fireplace heater died. I had to get a new one, but the earliest it could come was today...now that the snowstorm is long over and we're heading back up to temps in the 60s this weekend! But still, it's lovely, and it feels like having a fireplace in my room. (My room was built after the rest of the house, so heat never makes it up there...it's always the coldest or hottest room in the house!) http://flic.kr/p/drPybQ

Project 366 Day 312: November 7, 2012

And once again, the first snowfall of the year happened in the Fall. Not even 2 weeks after the hurricane, we got a "mini Nor'easter" today. The driving wasn't too bad, but this kind of thing is awful for the folks who are still dealing with Hurricane Sandy. This is the view from the inside of my car just as I was about to clean it off in the afternoon to go home. Getting let out of work early is one of the few perks I like about the snow :) http://flic.kr/p/dry3w2

Project 366 Day 311: November 6, 2012

Posting pictures of voting stickers seems to be trendy today. And why wouldn't it be? Today I voted in my 4th presidential election. (I turned 18 in 1998, so I had to wait a bit for my first presidential election. But I think I did have a governor election that year.) I'm not a very political person, but I do think it's important that people vote, regardless of your voting beliefs. You can't complain about the government if you don't vote! http://flic.kr/p/drhbKM

Project 366 Day 310: November 5, 2012

One of the many things I love about my new job: my parking is incredible. This is the view from my driver's seat. The worst parking I'll ever end up with is one row behind this. Today I was so close that when I got into the building I wasn't sure if I locked my door, but I was able to lock it right from the entrance to the building! (I know it's better exercise if you park farther and walk, but even at the farthest point of the lot, it's not that far. At my old job the parking lot was in a flood zone, and was a mess to walk through when it rained even the slightest bit!) http://flic.kr/p/dr4AZR

Project 366 Day 309: November 4, 2012

Buying this was totally the highlight of my day. And the sad thing is, it wasn't really an impulse buy...I was actually on the lookout for "Three Men and a Baby." :) http://flic.kr/p/dqHZ3B

Project 366 Day 308: November 3, 2012

Last night we babysat Mr. Jack and took him out to TGI Friday's. He had a great time! He was saying "Happy, happy, happy" and "Yay!" and was singing all night long. Here he is at Friday's just as we were about to leave. http://flic.kr/p/dqwpvW

Project 366 Day 307: November 2, 2012

Just like last year, a storm at the end of the October marked the end of the beautiful Fall trees. This is the part of Fall I like the least, because it means winter is on its way...unless we get another beautiful warm spell later this month like we did last year! http://flic.kr/p/dq9sXk

Project 366 Day 306: November 1, 2012

Two days of interesting photos, and now this. You can't win 'em all. But it was an interesting day at least - my colleague and I went up to Massachusetts to attend the New England/New York Blackboard User Group Meeting. There were some great presentations and we both learned a lot. I'm exhausted now, though - I got up at 5:15 am for this! http://flic.kr/p/dpSDg8
