He loves it outside, but we weren't sure how he was going to react to it being so bright and cold. Of course he loved it! He dragged his hand in the snow, and even did a couple of taste tests. I think he was shocked at how cold it was! We didn't stay out long, but it was a fun first experience with our little man!

First Snow!
Well, we didn't get a white Christmas, but we did get to introduce Hudson to snow just a couple days later. It just happened to be the day of the UK v UofL game, so his cute little UK snowsuit that YaYa got him was the perfect fit! Thanks YaYa!

Hudson's First Christmas
Christmas was wonderful this year! Holidays are so much more fun now that we have a little one to celebrate with. Although it was a busy couple of days, we enjoyed every minute of it. After going to church in the afternoon, we spent Christmas Eve with my family, eating a wonderful dinner and opening presents. Christmas morning we had our own little family Christmas before heading over to the Fertig's for yet more present opening :) Hudson took a little snooze before we packed up the car yet again and headed out to the extended Fertig family celebration with Kyle's grandparents and Aunts and Uncles. We are so grateful for time with family! Hudson did pretty well with all of the excitement overall, but we could tell he was exhausted at the end of Christmas Day. He refused to go down for a nap that afternoon, and then proceeded to scream all the way home to let us know how unhappy he was - poor little man!
As far as presents go, Hudson was spoiled rotten, as expected. We tried not to go overboard this year, especially since he really seemed to enjoy the boxes and wrapping paper the most. Who needs toys? :)

8 months!
Hudson David, you are 8 months old! What a big boy you have become this past month, mastering new skills and growing that cute little personality of yours. You are even starting to look more like a little boy instead of a baby. Your hair has grown in thicker, and with that little comb-over, you look about 3! OK, maybe not that old, but you really are growing up fast! You get more and more handsome each day, just like your Daddy! Most of the time people say that he spit you out, but occasionally you can see a little bit of your Mama in you, or a well-balanced blend of the both of us. Either way, you are perfect just the way you are!
This month you have been on the move! You finally decided to give crawling a whirl. You have a cute little army crawl that gets you from point A to point B. Sometimes it looks like you are swimming on land - your arms and legs get going! I thought once you realized that you could get somewhere on your own that you would take off and be into everything, but you still prefer to stick close to us and play. You have been a little more clingy than usual. You get very frustrated that you can't get back into a sitting position from your belly, and will fuss until we sit you back up. From there, you either want to pull up on something or you grab our hands, stand up and start marching forward. That's your cue that you are ready to GO! We walk you all around the house. Our lower backs have been killing us from hunching over to walk you, but we do it because you are the boss ;) Your favorite places to walk are into Mama and Dada's bathroom to play with the shower curtain, and also into your bathroom for bath time. You LOVE bath time, and are now bathing in the big tub, sitting all by yourself. You splash and play with your toys, and you love to suck on the washcloth. We have to use two washcloths for each bath, because if we try to take one away from you to wash your body, you freak out!
You have started expanding your vocabulary into repetitive, babbling words. Dadadadada, Mamamama, Babababa, Lalalala, etc. We got excited when you started saying Mama and Dada, but we are pretty sure you don't really know what you are saying quite yet. At least we know you are practicing! You really like to watch and listen to us say words, and it sounds like you are trying to mimic us sometimes. It could be coincidence, but I think you really are starting to show an interest in learning some words. We trying to talk to you as much as possible in a normal voice so that you can start learning how things are pronounced. We explain everything we are doing, point out objects and colors, and repeat things whenever we can. We have been doing some baby sign language with you, but you haven't really caught on yet. You do get really excited when I sign/say milk, by kicking your little legs really fast and breathing really heavy - almost like you are a panting dog. Haha - you love your milk!
You have really shown more of an interest in your toys this month too. You LOVE your sock monkey (Maurice as Daddy calls him) and your elephant pillow-pet (Elly). You reach for them both first thing in the morning and will squeeze them tight like you are giving them hugs. We also bought you a little walker-toy that you will sit and play with for long periods at a time. You don't like to walk behind it, but you will pull up on the front and stand and play with the different noise makers. We have started setting a little bucket of your toys next to you, and you will reach in and pull things out to play with. Most of the time things go straight into the mouth, but you also like to shake things to see if they make noise. You also will turn things over to try to figure out how they work - I see you scratching at the screws on the backs of toys all the time. You are already so inquisitive and smart!
A couple other things I don't want to forget:
- Your eyes are still blue-ish gray. Sometimes they look more blue, but other times they have a hint of green. Don't know where they came from since your Daddy and I have brown eyes! You get a lot of compliments on your beautiful eyes.
- We have a lot of nicknames for you. I have no idea where we came up with some of them, but we are always calling you something different. We have to remind ourselves to call you Hudson every once in a while! You do turn your head and acknowledge us when we say Hudson though, so I think we are safe to say you know your real name! Your current nicknames: Little man, boo boo, boo bear, buddy, booger, and booger bear. When you are crying or sad, Dada always says "poor little tink tink". Seriously, I don't know where we get this stuff sometimes!
- You've tried a few bites of real food, and seem to like it. You've tried strawberries in your mesh strainer, little bites of lunch meat, waffles, banana and mashed potatoes. You are still getting the hang of chewing, but you get better each time. You also love your puffs - you can pick them up and put them in your mouth on your own. Such a big boy!
- On a negative note, we have been frequent clients at the doctors office the past few months. You have had 5 ear infections, a couple viral infections, croup and RSV. While we hate to see you sick, you are such a trooper, and rarely fuss when you aren't feeling well. We have had a hard time even realizing when you have an ear infection because you continue to sleep through the night with no problems, and hardly pull at your ears or cry. It's usually a small fever or Mama's instinct that prompts a visit to the doctor to get a check up. Hopefully we can get through this winter without too many more doctor visits, but ultimately we are just thankful that little colds are all that we have to deal with. We are so blessed that you are a happy, healthy boy otherwise! Plus, what can you expect when you go to daycare? Those germs spread like wildfires! A little part of me savors that first day of sickness where you will actually lay and snuggle with me, but I certainly hate to see you not acting like your usual busy, spunky self.
As we are approaching the end of 2012, I can't help but look back on this amazing year with a little bit of sadness. I hate to say goodbye to the year that we welcomed you into this world - it has by far been the best year of our lives! Sure it has been exhausting and crazy, but mostly you have brought unthinkable joy to us and everyone that knows you. Your next monthly post will be in 2013, and I look forward to another exciting year! Don't get me started on how close we will be to your first birthday though - I'm already wiping my tears. Love you so so much little man!

The most wonderful time of the year!
It's finally time for Christmas! It's my most favorite time of the year. I love the spirit I feel this time of year - I love the decorations, smells, shopping, music, etc. I could go on and on! It's feeling even more full of spirit this year due to this cute little man we have to celebrate with this year! Enjoy a little dose of Christmas cheer from this cute little elf!

So very much to be thankful for this year - but most of all, we are thankful for this little turkey!

7 months!
Hudson David, you are yet another month older! I feel like I just typed your 6 month post...as usual, time is flying by way too quickly. I know, I know, I should stop saying that. But it is SO true. Warp speed I tell ya!
You have the best little personality! While you have your moments, for the most part you are a happy little man. Everyone you meet comments on how smiley you are! You also have the cutest little belly giggle that is so contagious. Dada and I laugh at you every day! You are also still super talkative, saying lots of ma, ba and la sounds. I keep trying to get a Mama out of you, but nothing yet! You are so observant, and really check out everything and everyone. I can tell you are soaking up everything like a little sponge and learning things so fast. The doctor even commented on how aware you are at your last appointment. Nosy little boy ;)
So many other fun things happened this month, as usual! Here's a little breakdown of what you've been up to:
- You finally have 2 teeth! After months of slobbering and chewing, your two bottom teeth finally broke through. You were a little fussy, but for the most part you handled the pain like a champ! One tooth came through first, and then the second poked through about a week later. It is so cute when you smile, because you open up wide to show of your two little teeth!
- You got your helmet off! What was supposed to take about 3 months, only took 6 weeks! We were completely shocked, but so excited! Your head looks great - another post coming soon with the results!
- You are pulling up on anything that you can reach. Your favorite thing to pull up on is the step-stool in your room where your humidifier sits. You will stand and play with all the buttons on the humidifier or bang on the step. You also like to try to stand up in the bath tub, but that really scares us, so we are trying to teach you that we only sit in the bath!
- You also have started to get into holding our hands and walking around. You know exactly what you are doing, and just want to walk around and around in circles. Sometimes you get going so fast that it looks like you are running. I'm starting to think you might skip crawling, as you have shown very little interest in that form of transportation.
- You LOVE food! You started off loving pretty much only vegetables - sweet potatoes, carrots and squash are your favorites! I guess you like orange? Slowly, but surely you have started accepting some fruits. You are completely the opposite of your Mama, but I'm not complaining. Vegetables are good for you!
There are so many other things that I wish I could document, but you are changing and growing so fast that I can't even document it all. Our lives are so full with you in it, little man! Looking forward to the next month and all of the upcoming holidays!

Rockin'
OK, I know I've said this before, but I promise that I am going to get caught up this week. Lots of posts coming soon. For now, look at this little rockin' man! He is SO close to crawling. He leans over and just rocks away. He will get up on his knees and get us all excited, and then plop down to his belly. Then he will turn around in circles on his belly and grunt because he is so frustrated that he's not crawling. Any day now, and Hudson will be all over the place. I'm excited about this, and also completely terrified. :)

Moooooo!
We headed over to cousin Hadley's house to celebrate Halloween and get some pictures of the kiddos in their costumes. It was a little cold for Hudson to go trick-or-treating...he lasted about 3 houses before we headed home for bedtime.
Happy Halloween from our sweet little cow!

God Bless Hudson!
This past Sunday (October 14th), we dedicated Hudson in front of our families and our church. We vowed to raise Hudson in accordance to God's Word, and promised to encourage him in his walk with the Lord. What a blessing Southeast has been in our lives, and we can only pray that it will be in Hudson's as well.
His dedication was at 11:30 Sunday morning at church. We actually had to wake him up from a nap in order to get there early and get back stage before the service started. I was a little nervous that this could result in a melt-down on stage. He did get a little fussy right before we walked out, but luckily once we were out on stage, Hudson got distracted by all of the sights and sounds around him. There was also a little girl right next to him that is in his class at school, and he was trying to play with her as well. Such a flirt already :)
We had our family over afterwards for a small lunch, and to celebrate. Hudson took a 2 hour nap that afternoon - he was exhausted! It was a wonderful way to cap off a great day!

Crawling?!
I know, I am WAY behind on this 'ole blog. It's my busy time at work, so any free time I've had (which has not been much) has been spent with my little family. I actually have several posts written, but just need to upload pictures and get everything posted. Lots of updates coming very soon - I promise! Until then, enjoy this video of little man's somewhat successful attempt at crawling. This was from September 25th, so little man was just a little over 5 months old. I'm thinking we are going to be chasing this little booger around here soon!
6 Months!
Hudson David, you are 6 months old - 1/2 of a year! That is so unbelievable to me! It doesn't seem like we should be at this milestone just yet. You are growing and changing so much these days and are becoming quite the little man!
Probably one of your biggest accomplishments this month is learning to sit up on your own! You have been perfecting the "tripod" sit for a few weeks now, but were still pretty unstable and could topple over at any moment. I don't know exactly when it happened, but one day we noticed you were sitting up in a full, upright position all on your own! I think you have been so much happier now that you can sit and play with your toys and see everything so much better.
You still don't love being on your belly, especially since you can sit up now, but we still make sure you get plenty of tummy time (fussy tummy time, but tummy time nonetheless)! You finally have figured out how to roll over both ways, from tummy to back, and back to tummy. Once you figured out you could do this, you have been a rolling machine. You only go one direction each way though, so you pretty much stay in the same area. I'm kind of enjoying this containment, as I know it will be a matter of time before you are rolling/crawling to get into things! Now that you are rolling consistently, you have also started rolling over in your sleep. At first it scared me to death and I would watch the video monitor like a hawk. I've realized that you are a strong boy now though, and have gotten used to you wiggling around all night long. You end up all over your crib throughout the night, and we usually find you on the opposite side of the crib or turned in a completely different direction in the morning.
If you are not perfecting your sitting, or fighting tummy time, you also love to stand with our support and JUMP JUMP JUMP! You are working out Mama and Dada's arm muscles, that's for sure! Luckily we have a jumper to put you in so that you can jump to your heart's desire! I would think you would get tired from all the jumping, but you just go on and on, and laugh and smile the whole time. Have you noticed that you don't sit still, little man? :)
Some other fun things from this month:
- You love mirrors! You love to look at your little "friend" in the mirror. You touch, talk and laugh at the cute little man staring back at you.
- You like different textures. You will scratch at or rub anything - carpet, your chair, pillows, stuffed animals, blankets, etc.
- You are still our vocal little man. You will go on and on like you are having a real conversation with us. I wish I knew what you were trying to tell us! Really good stories I'm sure! Still no real words, but you are pretty good at imitating sounds and have learned how to get your voice to a pretty high pitch.
- You are loving food! We've started mixing in a few different baby foods, and you are eating them up. Sweet potatoes have been your favorite so far.
- You are still chewing/licking/slobbering all over everything. If you pick something up, it goes straight to the mouth. I think teeth are coming!
- You also got your helmet this month and have been doing very well. I'll post about that separately with more detail
- You have had 2 overnight sleep overs this month at Yaya's house! I'm happy to report you slept all the way through the night without any issues! You are a wonderful sleeper at home, but I have worried about what might happen in a new environment. You did great though - you love your sleep!
I wish I could freeze time so that we could keep enjoying all of the fun, amazing things you are doing right now! It seems like you have grown up so much this month, and every day you surprise us with something new! We love you little man!

Hubers!
One of our favorite things to do in the Fall is go to Hubers farm across the river in Indiana. Something about the fresh apple cider, the smell of pumpkin donuts cooking and the tractor rides out to the apple and pumpkin patches just makes Fall feel official! We usually go pick apples with our friends Brittney and Chris, and then go do pumpkins with our family. This year, we did the same - all in one weekend! Hudson was a trooper both days! We dressed him in his overalls both days, because that's what you wear at a farm, right? I think he's the cutest little farmer I've ever seen!

5 Months!
Hudson David, you are 5 months old! I think back to this time last year, and it's crazy to me that you were only a little bean growing in Mommy's belly. Now you are here with us and you are a happy, active little boy! You have the best little personality and we just feel so blessed to have you in our lives!
This month has been full of fun with you, little man! I think I say that every month, but it's true! You rolled a couple of times from your back to your belly, but you still haven't really gotten into rolling like I thought you would. You prefer to scoot or turn to reach your toys when you are on your belly. I am still thinking that you are going to skip to crawling before you use rolling as a method of getting places. When we are holding you, or if you are sitting in anything, you are the biggest wiggle worm! No sitting still for you! You want to reach out and touch anything you can get your hands on, or bring it straight to your mouth. Your hands are still constantly in your mouth too, and the drool is out of control! You soak your outfits, and get drool all over Mommy and Daddy. Still no concrete evidence of teeth, but all of this drool is making me think that they have to be coming soon. For now, we will just continue to do laundry every day :) You also like to reach out and touch/grab people's faces. All of that energy you have means that you don't really snuggle much anymore, which makes Mama and Daddy kind of sad. Usually we can get a little bit of snuggle action first thing in the morning or when you are getting tired before a nap. I soak in those moments any chance I get!
You had an ear infection this month, and when you went to the doctor, they also cleaned out your ears really well. Ever since then, you have been back to your talkative little self. A lot of times you will coo and talk on and on for several minutes, and then end in a high pitched scream. It's as if you are working up to a grand finale. Other times you will listen to us and watch our lips as we talk to you, and then will respond back. I love having "conversations" with you! Sometimes I swear it sounds like you are saying actual words, but I know it's just you imitating sounds.
This was a big month for you in the food department as well. Not too long after your 4 month check-up, we noticed that you were increasingly interested in our food and were enthralled with watching us eat. So, we decided to try some rice cereal to see if you were ready for something more. And boy did you LOVE IT! It took you a couple of tries to really get the hang of how to eat it - you wanted to keep your fingers in your mouth and would stick your tongue out sometimes too. Now you are pretty much a pro, opening up wide for a bite and trying to help mommy hold the spoon! You still breastfeed 3 times a day and have three 6 oz bottles during the day. You are a healthy, growing boy who loves his food! You are wearing mostly 3-6 month clothes, and some 6 month outfits in certain brands. You are still long and lean, but you still have some baby rolls that are so adorable.
Every month is a new adventure with you, and we are enjoying every second! We love you little man!

4 Months!
Hudson David, you are 4 months old! What a month it has been! You are such a happy and fun little boy! You smile at everyone and everything, and boy is it precious. You have also been giggling more this month, sometimes at the most random things. Daddy and I will work so hard to get you to laugh by blowing raspberries on your belly or making silly faces, and you will stare at us like we are crazy. When we're not trying so hard, you'll giggle at the smallest things. I guess we're not as funny as we think we are :)
Last month you were "talking" up a storm, but this month you have been more into happily screaming in a very high pitched voice or blowing bubbles/raspberries. I think the babbling has slowed down a bit too because your fingers are pretty much a constant in your mouth. Really anything that you can get your hands on goes straight to the mouth - toys, blankets, burp cloths, Mommy & Daddy's fingers, etc. I am not sure if teething is starting, or if it's just your current fascination. Time will tell! You also have discovered your feet...they are the first things you reach for when you wake up in the morning. You also like to show off your flexibility, and bring them all the way up to your mouth and chew on them. Yummy toes!
You finally rolled over this month too! Belly to back a couple of times, and you are almost rolling back to belly. You get about 3/4 of the way and then stop and chew on your fingers. You haven't really gotten into rolling around a whole lot, but I think it's because you're trying to figure out how to crawl instead. You will lay on your belly for long periods of time, supported up on your arms with your chest lifted. Your little legs kick like crazy, and sometimes you even try to get up on your knees a little bit and scoot. I know you are still young for crawling, but we can tell that you want to be on the move SO badly (evidenced by photos below)! It's hard to keep you still at all really - you don't want to just sit and cuddle with us anymore. You want to be on the floor, in your jumper or standing/walking with Mommy or Daddy. You are even moving around like a mad man in your sleep. We watch you kick and wiggle on the monitor all night, and we find you in the craziest positions in the morning. You still sleep through the night from 8-7 though, which we are so grateful for! I have a feeling we are in for a fun ride with you little man :)
Another thing that you have perfected this month is reaching for toys/objects intentionally with both hands and really holding on to them. You focus so hard when you are reaching out, sometimes even wrinkling those cute little eyebrows in deep concentration. We have started putting you in your high chair while we eat, and you sit and happily play with the toys on your tray. You like to pick them up and put them in your mouth or bang them on the plastic tray. We can also sit you in your bumbo seat and give you a toy to keep you occupied for a few minutes. It is so much fun to see you developing. It's just so hard to believe how quickly you learn and change!
You also had your 4 month check-up, and you are growing and developing perfectly! Stats from your 4 month appointment:
Weight - 14 lbs, 10.4 oz, 50th percentile
Height - 25 1/2", 50th percentile
Head - 16 1/4", 25 percentile
We are so grateful for a healthy, happy little man! We love you to the moon and back Boo Boo!
