Goodbye Twenties. Hello Thirties!

So...... I turned 30. I have been insisting for the last year that this is not a big deal. I've been looking forward to it. Truthfully. 30 is young. My family is still young, I'm still young. Lots to look forward to. Our 30's will be awesome! No more school! Real job for Kellan! Maybe we'll even buy a house! I can't wait!
But you know what? It was kind of hard. I realized all at once things are changing. I've gotten really good at having babies and supporting Kellan through school. Even though those things haven't always been the funnest, its hard to move on when your good at something. The truth is I'm afraid that I won't be so good at the next phase of life that has been sneaking up on me.
So, to celebrate the end of fabulous decade and kick off another great one we took a quick weekend jaunt over to San Diego.
It was so fun to take the kids to the ocean! They loved it! I had never even been to California and Kellan and never been to San Diego, and we can't wait to get back! We're already trying to finagle a way back by ourselves for our 10 year anniversary.

Thanks to the fabulous recommendations of my friend Whitney we went to La Jolla cove. Actually half way through the day we switched and went over to La Jolla shores too. Parking was a beast (she did warn me) but it worked out quite well (the boys napped while Kellan drove around waiting for a spot to open up) I was glad we got to do both especially since we only had one day.

Kids, ocean. Ocean, kids.

Miles loved the sand but not the water. He wouldn't let us but him down anywhere near the waves.

Racing waves.

Note: I did have reservations about posting this picture, but you know what? It was my party and I was there, so I'm going to. Not that anyone else cares, right?

The girls and I got started on Lunch while Dad and the boys looked for parking.

I love, love, love this picture!

Truman and Sara especially loved the crashing waves!

Seaweed! Libby loved playing "Mermaid" and racing the waves.

Anne was so excited this clam washed right into her hands on a wave!

Anne's real sand castle! A dream come true.

Truman loved getting buried.

Saturday night we walked around Old Town a bit and got ice cream. It was only about 68 degrees but the kids were freezing. I guess they've gotten a bit used to the Arizona heat already.

Sunday we had every intention of attending a sacrament meeting somewhere, but of course we were late checking out and Kellan didn't think he needed to write down the address or even glance at it because according to the google map it was "right off the main road". He did finally stumble on it by sheer luck, but by then it was 11:35 and the boys were asleep so we threw in the towel and went to the temple.
Its even more beautiful than the pictures! The first night we drove past it right and sunset and it was so breathtaking! The girls and gasped and shouted, "That's where I'm getting married!!!"

He was sad because I was taking the girls picture and not his. Saddest face ever!

Pirates!

Then we went to the Mormon Battalion museum in Old Town. We love it too! I have thing for church history sites. I love them so much even if they make me cry.

After the museum we walked around some of the other old historic buildings. There was a little trail head that meandered up a hill and overlooked old town so I walked up it with Miles and didn't realize Sara was behind me I turned around to see her fall right into a cactus. Apparently she had been backing up trying to get Kellan's attention down below and didn't see the cactus. Sad day. We got her fixed up and then happened upon the balloon man which cheered her up some. Then we had a picnic by the battalion museum and headed home.

Overall it was a pretty great trip. We only wish it could have been longer!
