The sledding is on!

One of Miles' vacation highlights was going sledding and having snowball fights with Popi. Miles still loves telling the story of how he threw a snowball in Popi's glasses and in his mouth. Then he laughs and asks, "Isn't that so funny?!"

Some Recent Firsts...

Otis's first Chrismas...
...and first Dr. Pepper
Miles' first time playing with Aunt Elaine's awesome nutcracker collection (and it looks like it might have been Josh's first time, too--ha! He and Miles became fast friends.)
Brian's first time (as far as I know--he'll correct me if I'm wrong) simultaneously drinking sparkling cider and a chocolate milk chug
My first time seeing my MTC companion Tiffany in over 10 years!
Otis's first time reading a book by himself...in perfect form!
Brian's first time doing dishes (Just kidding of course...he is truly a great kitchen helper...but he'll be mad that I'm letting everyone know!)Otis's first time licking (over and over and over) a freezing cold sliding glass door
And finally Brian and Miles' first time wearing purple and gray camo pants together!
Btw, I'd like to hear any suggestions for fun items to make with this material. Any ideas?!? Maybe capes?
Also, I'd like a show of hands of all who actually thought I let Otis down a DP. Hey, people, I'm a super baby food mom--come on!

Now that it's almost February...

...I'm experiencing a balanced feeling of guilt and laziness for waiting until now to post some holiday photos. Nevertheless, at least from grandparents' perspectives, late pictures are better than no pictures at all, right?!

We stayed with Brian's parents in Provo, and despite the bad weather and some pretty sick kiddies, we managed to have a lot of fun with family and friends. As Brian likes to report in his best Relief Society voice, "we just visited and visited"...and here are some photos to prove it:It's always a good time when we visit the Schmutz family--Miles got to play Wii baseball and bowling and we got to see Clark and Amy who were in town for the holidays. Clark wooed Miles with his awesome Thomas the Train stories.
We went with Rich, Marne and Elin to see the Temple lights--they were amazing...but it was oh-so-chilly! Doesn't Brian look like a burly Russian man here?
On Christmas morning, we met up with Erik and Jennille and had brunch at Julie and Blaire's house in Alpine. It's worth driving through a crazy snow storm to have Julie's breakfast pizza!
Miles got his first mit and ball (and T-ball set) from Baba and Popi and has already put it all to good use (although my dad and uncles would undoubtedly be a little disappointed that we haven't done a better job teaching him how NOT to throw like a girl--ha!).
We had a nice time visiting with the Isakson gang--Otis wasn't the happiest of campers, but Grandma Isakson seemed to enjoy the gathering and was in good spirits.
Miles and Jacie (Brian's cousin's daughter) had lots of fun playing together at the Buswell Christmas party at Keith and Trish's house in Ogden.
We got to see many of our friends, and Miles had fun playing with his buddies, like Jane and Josh (not pictured), Gordee and Camille's twins.
Kelli's mom's side of the family had a gathering up in Centerville--here I am with my cousins Clarissa, Elisha and Darlene.
Miles enjoyed all the books that he and Baba read together...she's helped him really love reading.
Here's our sweet little Otis who was pretty happy for the first week, but then battled an ear infection for the rest of our trip and wasn't so spunky.
We had an awesome New Year's slumber party at the Campbells' house with the Armstrongs. Everyone had a fab time--we ate lots of yummy food and even the kids partied hard!
Brian and B-dawg and Anita in a departing hug. Btw, kudos to B-dawg and his band Neon Trees for signing with Mercury records--wahoo!
We got to hang out with Aaron and Rachel Allen and their cute family for an evening before we headed back to Albuquerque. They are so much fun to be with! Here are Miles and Otis playing with Luke.
Miles ALWAYS loves playing with Katie Campbell--he has a crush on her big time. So this is his dream, riding away on a trusty steed (made by Popi, by the way, over 30 years ago!) into the sunset with his girlfriend.
Otis just loved playing with Baba and Popi while we stayed with them...and I'm pretty sure the feeling was mutual!
Auntie Elin just wanted to eat up Miles and Otis...and Miles would always get disturbed whenever she said that to him about Otis. "You can't eat my baby brother!" We love Elin!

A Great Day...

At the risk of sounding a little juvenile and maybe a bit overjoyed, I'd like to quote a Ren and Stimpy classic, "Happy Happy Joy Joy!" On a slightly more serious note, I don't think anyone, even those who still don't like Obama, can reasonably deny the importance of this day. Even if it wasn't a victory for your political party or persuasion, it was a victory for progress and the hope that racism is slowly being weeded out of our country's collective consciousness.
