Summer comings and goings...

The other day, as we drove through our desert city, roasting in the 100 degree weather, a song that came on in my car almost brought tears to my eyes: If everybody has an ocean across the USA then everybody'd be surfin' like Californ-I-A. Oh how I pined for a beach! Alas, one is not conveniently located, so we've had to occupy our summer with less salty and sandy activities. But we're still managing to have fun :)

Brian's parents came for a nice visit and helped me out while Brian was back east for work. We had a great time with them and the boys LOVED their special "Baba and Popi dates."
Brian brought back some revolutionary army guys and props from his work trip, so the boys have been into setting up battles. Otis decided to create an edible war scene the other day: snap peas versus almonds. Almonds were the bad guys.
Some battles were on land, others at sea...using pea pod boats.
My parents came to town for a while, and they were super helpful and fun. My dad helped us with backyard landscaping. Just what someone should do on vacation!
My parents, aunts and uncles came over for brunch one morning. It was great seeing them! Here is my mom (far right) with three of her sisters (and two wild photo crashers).
Boys having fun with the Bridge kids--they even make eating fruit exciting!
Miles (middle, back row) tae-kwon-do-ing. He's loving it.
We had a fun (but short) camping trip with our friends from church. Not unlike dogs who've been cooped up for days on end, the boys ran around crazily for the first while and settled into steady, constant adventure/explore mode.

And we just had a great visit from Auntie Elin last weekend. She's somethin' else, that Elin!
We have lots more adventures planned for the summer: trips to Utah and California and more local hiking and camping. Summer rules!
