Summer in Texas

Summer in Texas has been a very fun and eventful time. First, Emery Michelle Thornock (Grandma Walden and her share a middle name now) was welcomed into the world by her Mother (Kendra), her big Brother (Carter), and her dad (Brett).
She weighed in at 7 lbs 12 oz. and measured 21 inches long. She has a scant dusting of dark hair and dark blue eyes.

Dad and Carter had to wear masks because they have had colds. This is a first family photo.
Carter and I went to the park and played on the big toy. Carter is very entertaining and has a great imagination. We have become best buds.
I got to watch Carter play soccer. He made his first goal ever at this game. He was very proud of himself.

When grandpa came Brett and Grandpa built a bed for Carter.
Just have to put the final touches on it and paint it.

HAPPY 90th DAD

Today we would be celebrating my dad's 90th birthday. I guess you could say that we did celebrate last Saturday at our family reunion. Dad loved family reunions more than just about anything. Although he was not there in body, he was there in spirit. He is never far from us. He likes to come and check in on each one of his kids and see how they are doing. Sometimes I can feel him so close that I wish I could reach out and give him a hug. Nonetheless, I have to settle for a spirit to spirit hug. The picture below is of dad at a family reunion up at Gooseberry, one of our favorite camping spots with dad. Dad was a watcher and a thinker. I wonder what his thoughts are in this picture?

This is one of my favorite pictures of my dad standing outside the Bountiful temple when Kendra got married. The reason I like this picture is because it reminds me how important families are and that the temple signifies eternal families. Thanks dad for having us sealed to you. I look forward to the day when I can be with you again. Until then, God be with you 'til we meet again.

George Quentin Walden

I have been trying to remember my password to get in to my blog to update it. For some reason I was putting something in wrong and this time when I tried I was able to type everything in correctly. It has been a very eventful year thus far but since I am behind I will begin anew with the birth of our 4th grandchild George. He was born March 7, 2010 and weighed in at 8 lbs. 7 oz. and 21.5 inches longs. What a blessing it is to have children in our lives. These precious spirits that come from our Heavenly Father are truly a blessing and a gift. The only title better than "MOM" is "GRANDMA". Kendall and I feel very blessed to have the children we do. Each member of our family brings joy to us. It has been so fun to see our children grow. I truly believe that "Children are an heritage to the Lord." (Psalms 127:3)

George and Grandma. I just can't get enough of holding babies.

Grandpa loves holding George and is excited for him to be able to do more than sleep.
George looks a lot like Jake but I have decided that he has his mother's eyes. He wasn't opening them to much the day we went and visited with this new little bundle.

OUR GRANDAUGHTER IS HERE!

We are pleased to announce the birth of our granddaughter. As of yet we don't have a name to announce but it will be forthcoming. She weighed in at 7 lbs. 1 oz. and is 20 inches long. Mom and baby are doing well.
Here is our beautiful little girl just moments after her birth.
Grandma is so excited to have her first granddaughter.

Dad is showing big brother Tate how to gently hold her and Tate isn't quite sure why she is crying so much.
Here is a family photo. Tanya always looks great after having a baby.

TRIP TO HOGLE ZOO!!

When we got back from Dallas on Wednesday I wasn't done vacationing so I asked Tanya if I could take Tate to the zoo on Thursday. It is fun to go to the zoo with little kids they get so excited about the animals.
Tate likes to watch the elelphants.
Last time we went to the zoo we weren't able to see the zebra's. This time we were able to see a lot of the animals eating their lunch.

The newest addition to Hogle Zoo is a new baby giraffe. Tate was fascinated with the baby giraffe.
Tate was a little intimidated by this huge gorilla so grandma sat with him.

Tates favorite animals are always the monkeys. He could sit and watch them for hours. The monkeys in this cage were very active and fun to watch.
This monkey was very loud. He kept making a really deep barking sound.
More monkeys!

Tate wanted to see if he was as big as a orangoutang. I think he needs a little bit longer arms then he will be able to swing from the trees.

CARTER'S FIRSTS!!

While in Dallas with Kendra and Brett were were able to witness some very important firsts in Carter's life.
Carter's first steps. It is so exciting when your baby takes their first steps.
It is amazing how fast little ones learn. When I got to Kentucky Carter would stand on his own. When we got to Dallas he decided he could walk because he wanted his dad their to see his first steps.

Carter's other first that we were a witness to was his first haircut. I was amazed how still he sat for his dad while he trimmed the fine baby hair off. His hair in the back was getting long and he kept pulling at it so mom and dad decided to cut it off. He was a really good boy.
Here is Carter with mom and dad just after his new haircut. He looks like such a little boy now.
I thought we were in Kentucky? Is that the Washington Monument? At first sight you may think you are lost but if you are in Fairfield Kentucky you will see a replica of the Washington Monument. It is 2/3's the size of the Washington Monument.
What is this monument? It is the Jefferson Davis Monument. Who is Jefferson Davis? He was the only Confederate President.

This is a very different angle of the monument.
Here is a little tidbit on Jefferson Davis.
