1st Day of School, Hooray!!

Benjamin was nervous, but he did it!! The first day of first grade is a great thing. Good for you, Benjamin!
It's fun to start something new with a good friend.
Samantha, so cool on her first day of 6th grade. She owns Midvalley Elementary.

And Kate, just loving her time in 3rd grade--it's going to be a great year!

McCoy, back to Union Middle School for 8th grade.
First day of high school for Tessa!! Scary! Hmmm, but she doesn't look scared.

Madeleine, the old pro, starting her senior year of high school!! What is in store for her?And then, what could be better than going off to high school together!

Kate's Baptism Day

Turning eight for Kate also meant being baptized. She had been looking forward to this for a while and she was ready when it came. She looked beautiful in her white dressm which represented the covenants she was making in her life. We are proud of her and love her very much. We are grateful she is choosing to follow the gospel in her life and we hope we can teach her well enough what she needs to know. After the baptism we enjoyed the company of family and friends over at the house for lunch.

Happy Birthday Kate . . . at the Lion House!!

It was finally the year for Kate's special 8th birthday at the Lion House. Since we were going to be gone in July we had her party in June. She invited some friends and even invited her brothers and cousin (Collin) to come along. We did the pioneer games, tour of the Lion House, and the taffy pull after a sandwich. We loved the hats and bonnets. What a special day for a special girl.

A Diller, A Dollar . . . . A Bobcat Scholar!

Borrowing a little from the Sterling Scholars idea that High Schools in Utah do, Union Middle School, where Tessa and McCoy attend, started a program at their school to honor and recognize student achievement in different areas. Tessa applied for the dance scholar award. She had to present a poster of dance, a poem and an essay about dance, and do an originally choreographed dance in front of a panel of judges. We are so proud of her for achieving this honor. At the end of May we had a lovely dinner and recognition night--her dance teacher said the nicest things about her and we agree.

Happy Mother's Day, "mom's"

We had a lovely dinner with both Elaine Homer and Sue Johnson, a couple of the "mom's" in our lives. We love and appreciate everything that mother's do for us.

A Good Deed Never Goes Unrewarded

At the end of February we took advantage of a super opportunity with Disney. To promote service and charitable works in the community they were offering individual Disneyland passes if you did a service project of some sort. We looked hard to make one work for the whole family. We ended up one Saturday morning working at the Utah Co-op, which is an organization that helps low income people who need help getting groceries and food items. The Co-op collects things and then people can come to their store on Redwood Road to "shop" for what they need. We worked cleaning up and organizing the storage area because people were also bringing in diapers and wipes that day for a shipment they were putting together for Haiti. I think we helped out a lot--we reorganized several pallets, consolidating them and getting more space open. And we set up a good organized way to store the diapers as they came in all morning. Everyone in the family worked hard, showed a good attitude, and did what they could to help out--we were proud of them all.
