Gotta love Chemistry

So one morning this last week I was preparing chemicals to do a lab with my students. Not a big deal right?
After school I looked at my hands. My right hand had brown stuff covering half of my palm. It looked like I had smeared chocolate all over. My left hand had small brown spots, and a couple of my fingernails were also brown.
I figured it must have been the chemicals. One of them I mixed up was silver nitrate which is used in film developing. It changes from clear to dark brown/black when it gets in the light. I must have spilled it on my hands and not noticed until later in the day after it got exposed.
I should have taken a picture. The color lasted about 24 hours, but my fingernails are still brown. Oh, the joys of teaching chemistry.

25 Things

I just read 2 blogs that posted 25 random things about the author. Here's my list:

1. I am doing laundry right now and just got 2 free loads because one of the washers is broken and it said that the money was already in there. (should I tell management?)
2. My house is clean right now.
3. I like to vacuum, but hate to do the dishes.
4. On Tuesday, Kirk and I will have been married for 3.5 years.
5. I am planning prom this year and finally was able to reserve a place on Friday.
6. I love saltine crackers.
7. I've never been over seas.
8. I broke my nose when I was learning how to walk when I ran into a coffee table.
9. I have learned how to fly fish since being married and am finally to the point where I'll admit to people that I like it and don't just go because Kirk is going.
10. I think I mailed a letter to Alan last week and forgot to put a stamp on it. I do things like that all of the time.
11. I'm going to Georgia in 4 weeks for a faculty retreat with my school (long story)
12. I like to wear black shirts.
13. I have 3 plants in my living room that have survived nearly a year with me taking care of them. I count that as an accomplishment.
14. I love Christmas trees and decorating for Christmas
15. I wish I could decorate my apartment cuter the rest of the year.
16. I drove over 100 miles in the last 2 days but didn't go anywhere unusual or especially exciting.
17. The way the light is on my hair right now makes it look golden.
18. I really enjoy road biking, especially going down hill. I love to make the bike go really fast, but I'm really bad at going up hill.
19. I like to try new recipes, but don't do it often enough.
20. I don't have any shows that I regularly watch on TV, but listen to the radio about 1.5 hours a day while driving.
21. The freezer part of my refrigerator is completely covered in pictures of family and friends that I've collected over that last few years.
22. I don't pay full price for any food item except milk and bread. I'm always looking at the ads to see what is on sale this week. Maybe that is a slight exaggeration.
23. I really like natural light and avoid turning on the lights until necessary.
24. I have to wear sunblock whenever I go outside for more than a half hour to avoid getting burned.
25. I eat eggos for breakfast every morning because they are quick and easy.

Whew! That was harder than I thought.
Now I have to go get my laundry before it gets all wrinkly. The End.

Card Club

Every month I get together with other girls in my ward and we trade homemade cards. Each month we have a theme and January was Valentine's day cards. So last week we met up and now I have 8 very cute Valentine's day cards to give away. Here are a few samples. Mine is in the top picture with the pink ribbon. It is really fun to make the cards and then see everyone else's ideas too!

Kirk has midterms this week so he has been studying like crazy. Someday we'll be done with this school thing :).

My brother Alan also left for the MTC last Wednesday. He'll be there for about 3 weeks then he's off to Baton Rouge. It's really wierd to think that he is gone and I'm not going to see him for so long. I think that it won't really hit me until I go home again and he isn't there. Good Luck Alan!
