Grandma, Grandpa and Uncle Connor

Kirk's parents and brother Connor came to visit over President's Day weekend.  We had a great time with them.  They arrived late Thursday night.  Friday morning the guys went golfing and Lisa and I hung out at home with Cade.  That evening we enjoyed a delicious dinner at the BBQ shop and then drove down to see the river.

Saturday morning Kirk had a church ball game and then a "much-needed" visit to Bass Pro shop took place.  Lisa and I emptied the shelves of Costco in the afternoon, stocking up on much needed supplies (and some not-so-needed treats!)
Cade stayed home and spent some quality time with Grandpa.
Sunday was Kirk's birthday.  After church, Lisa, Connor and I spent time making lemon fruit salad, steak, asparagus and of course, Kirk's favorite Graham Cracker Pie.
Monday brought on some more shopping and hanging out at home.  Cade got completely spoiled with attention.  He really liked his Grandma and all the funny noises and faces she made with him.  Playing on the floor was one of his favorites.
Tom definitely got in  his time too, away from the TV.
We had a great time with them here.  It is always sad to see any visitors leave, but especially grandparents.  I talked to Lisa the next day and she was already having withdrawals from not being able to play with Cade.  Someday we will live closer to them, but for now, we will take what we can get.  Thanks for coming guys!!

6 months!

Cade is now 6 months old!  Wow!!  I did a little photo shoot with a blanket and got a few cute ones.  He is such a good baby.  He is happy almost all of the time.  He is really easy to get a smile out of and always smiles when I pull out the camera!
Cade can sit up really well now.  He moves his arms all over and reaches for toys and anything else close by.  He really likes to be a part of the action.  If someone is talking, he wants to know what is going on and even stops nursing to see what it is.  He loves attention and will smile at anyone who talks to him.  He loves to go on walks and look at cars and the fountains in the pond by our house.  He is really quiet when we're out, just looking around and taking it all in.
Love his hair!!
Cade still loves baths.  As the tub is filling I sit him near the water and he plays in it and even leans over and sticks his head in it.  He likes to hold his own washcloth as I wash him--so he has something to suck on.  I can't wait to take this kid swimming all summer!

Cade makes lots of funny faces.
Cade is doing really well eating solids.  I started giving him fruits and vegetables with the rice cereal around 5 months and there is no going back!  He leans forward to get the spoon and with some foods I can't get it in his mouth fast enough!  His favorites are carrots, applesauce and pears.  He has also eaten broccoli, spinach, sweet potatoes and avocado.  He really enjoyed a french fry at the restrauant last week too.
On his 6-month birthday, Cade rolled over from his back to front for the first time.  He was in bed, going to sleep  and I heard him cry really loud.  I peeked in to see what was wrong and had to snap a picture!  I went in and calmed him down and rolled him back over, but a minute later he was on his tummy again.  Since then, he has taken most naps on his front.  He has yet to roll over outside of the bed though and still can't go the other direction.
We went to the doctor yesterday for a check up.  They gave Cade an A+ for being so healthy.  He weighed in at 21 pounds 9 ounces and was 28 1/2 inches long, both 95th percentile.

Cade can't crawl yet, but he would love to!  He pushes up on all 4's when on his tummy, but can't hold it so he falls down and kicks his legs in the air like crazy.  If he would kick the floor, he would be scooting all over.  He can rotate around while on his tummy to get toys.  He really know what he wants now and will grunt and reach for it until he gets it or you hand it to him.  He also loves to stand and can hold himself up while grabbing onto furniture.

Cade loves my water bottle and my phone.  We have called Grandma and Melissa a few times so they could talk to Cade on speaker phone.  If he sees my phone, he grabs for it!

Cade also love to talk and squeal.  He is getting really loud--happy or sad.  He really is a happy baby.

Games:  peek-a-boo is still a favorite.  All we have to do is wave the blanket around and he goes crazy!  He likes getting rides on my legs when I lay on my back.  He still loves singing songs, especially when I sing them really fast and move his hands for the actions.  He likes when Kirk or I "work out" using him as the weights.

Another accomplishment is a consistent night sleeper!  Yay!  He goes to bed at 7:00 every night.  (I still feed him around 10, but we're dropping that in the next week).  He wakes up happy between 6:30 and 7:00 a.m.  Cade takes 3 naps a day.  Usually two are around 1.5-2 hours and the third is a short 45-minute one.

Kirk and I tell each other all the time how cute our little guys is.  We feel so lucky and blessed to have an awesome baby in our family.  Being a mom is challenging and I worry way too much about Cade's nap schedule and if I am doing everything right, but it is really fun too!  I love getting Cade all hyped up and making him giggle, taking him for walks, listening to him talk.  These 6 months have gone by reallly fast, but I can't imagine life without Cade.

Fire, Part II

Remember this post?  Well, I have another fire story to add to the saga.  I didn't think I was such an airhead.  I was boiling chicken today and letting it go for a while so it was tender.  I left the kitchen to talk to my sister on the phone which was charging in the bedroom.  When I came out to check it, I was too late.  The pan was spewing smoke.  I grabbed it and threw it out the door, but too late.  Our kitchen/living room was full of smoke.  I left the door open and quickly opened the window to air it out, but too late.  The smoke alarm went off and I thought of the sleeping Cade.  WAAAHHH!!! Too late.  So Cade got up and we played for a while and the pan is still soaking.  I managed to salvage most of the chicken, but it had a good 1/8 inch of solid black burn on the bottom.

The Flamms

My sister, Lindsey, and 2 nephews, Joshua and Daniel, came to visit Kirk and I a little while ago. We loved having them here. Cade really enjoyed all the action, with Daniel running around and another baby to play with. With 3 little kids, we didn't get out too much--someone was almost always sleeping. We did manage to have some fun though. We visited one of Lindsey's friends who lives in my ward, went to McDonalds (Lindsey loves their spicy chicken sandwiches), made sugar cookies, did some clothes shopping and hung out at home. Here are a bunch of pictures from the week.

Cade stories: sleeping and sucking

Cade found his feet and loves to pull his socks off

Cade likes to suck on everything he can get his hands on.  He also love to suck on the carpet.  I think this is totally discusting and try to not let him do it.  Ususally I put him on a blanket when he is on the floor because I know how clean the blankets are.  Anyway, the other day I put a burp cloth under Cade because I didn't have a blanket handy.  Pretty soon, he had pulled the burp cloth out of the way and was sucking on the carpet.  So I put it back underneath him.  He pushed himself over to the edge of the burp cloth and started sucking again on the carpet.  I moved the burp cloth again and he did the same thing.  So I pulled out a blanket and put him on that.  I left the room and came back a minute later.  He moved the blanket so his hands were on the carpet again.  So, I flipped him over on his back.  No more carpet :)

Playing with Daddy

We used to swaddle Cade when he went to bed.  He is too strong for the swaddle now and breaks out of it quickly.  The other day, I was having a hard time getting him to sleep and when I went in to check on him, I decided to swaddle him again to see if it would help.  2 seconds later Cade burst his arms out and gave me a big smile as if to say "ha, ha, Mom.  I don't want to be swaddled!"

I usually cover Cade with a blanket when I put him to bed too.  He moves the blanket around a bit and sucks on the edges as he is falling asleep.  The last couple of weeks though, he has been moving the blanket over his face and falling asleep under it.

Cade woke up the other night at 9:00 p.m., which is really unusual.  Sometimes he cries out in his sleep, but after he had been crying for about 10 minutes, I thought I should go check him.  He had moved in his sleep and must have bumped his head because his face was smashed up against the side of the crib.  Don't worry, no bumpers in there, but I bet it scared him pretty good.  He has since repeated this a few times.  Maybe someday he will learn to fix it on his own.

60 dinners

I get asked often what I do all day.  I have a baby who takes 3 naps and sleeps 4-5 hours a day.  What do I use my time to do?  I stay busy.  I have always been someone who keeps busy.  I don't sit around and watch tv or surf the internet (very often).  Of course, I do laundry, clean the bathrooms, shower, etc., but that doesn't fill up all the time he sleeps.  I like to have projects going on to help me use my time productively.  My latest project has revolved around our dinner menu.  I have an awesome cookbook that my sister compiled of recipes she uses and has collected over the last 5 years or so.  I was kind of stuck with what to make for dinner, so I decided to use this cookbook to my advantage.  Lindsey also showed me a great website  called ourbestbites.com that has TONS of yummy recipes on it.  My mother-in-law gave me a the best bites cook book for Christmas, without even knowing I loved the website.  So, I've been using all these great things to make lots of new dinners.  Some turned out great, some not so much, but it has been fun to experiment.  I haven't made the same dinner twice since I started keeping track in November.  Some days we have had leftover or gone out, but I've been keeping track of what we've eaten every day.  My goal was to get at least 50 dinners and make it through January.  I ended up with 60 dinners and still have 7 ideas that I haven't made yet.  This has been a fun project.  I think its about time to start cycling some of these meals through again, but I still plan on making 1 new recipe each week.
